In fairness, I don't live anywhere near there. Does anyone tho'?
For me, our best plan was the park. Sadly, IMO, we missed out on a chance to enhance a great area of the City and fetch it into today's world, and relieve it of it's seedy reputation.
Moving on, Stanley is a good call for away fans, altho' further away for most home fans. But it is our only way of securing professional sport with Wakefield in the name. So bring it on.
Some people are just so insular, their own little world is all that matters.
And who is to say they are wrong? Only them I assume.
I wanted it built on my own doorstep.
Hey Ho!!!

| I do like how the group have gathered around the entrance to the site, probably never stopped off there before in their lives.
As ever the concern is about the stadium development having a negative affect upon the value of their house. I don't see how having a first class sports amenity on the doorstep would devalue a house, surely it would increase it. It's certainly a selling point. Hopefully the trust, the developers and the council can work with the residents and listen to their concerns and maybe put a few misconceptions about the project to bed.

to be honest its to be expected, and better out of the way now then later, wont amount to anything, mkes me laugh though that they would rather have a disused dump that gets litter thrown in it regularly than a nice shiny new stadium........sod em.

and of course outway the negatives with the positive press sories.."local businesses support wakefield stadium plan", "jobs boost to ailing local construction industry" etc etc
or just give them a concession to let people park in one of their many fields on match day for a quid a throw! i have a feeling the rebellion would be slightly less then!

| It also says in the article that a full planning application is going to be submitted to the council very soon . That show how this project is a lot more advanced than people think. There are always going to be abit of opposition and this was expected and they are in there right to. The thing is to let them see the whole plans and the positives it will have the area and district. The rest of us will get behind the project I'm sure SWAG will have something planned.

| As posters have indicated, these people have not even seen the proposals so I don't know how they can be against it. I could understand it if the plans had been submitted and then they would have had a chance to see how it would affect their lives. I wonder if they have even considered that this development is much more than just a stadium and it could improve their lives and property values.

Nowhere in the article does it say that "full planning application" will be submitted.
Shame though that a group of people want to try and ruin what is the perfect opportunity to develop sport in the area. People need to see past the "it's just a rugby ground" facade and see it as a multi-functional 24/7 facility.

| Exiting times if that's the case! Just one question if
anyone knows, what will happen with the current hospitality suites ie
little benidorm! Will it be sold on and used towards funding
for the ground or go towards team strengthening etc?

We will send them back for credit.
Trouble is I don't think we paid the full amount for them when we entered the CVA.(I think it's called that but maybe wrong)

That was a crying shame that Caddick was able to keep YCCC at Headingley and both Wakefield as a city, and Yorkshire as a club, didn't get a stadium they deserved. The boost that would have given the area, I believe, would have made building a rugby stadium or two much, much easier.

| Not again!!! Why do we always have to put up with a bunch of killjoys whenever this club is trying to move forward. What's this about a nature reserve planned for the old Newmarket Lane colliery site, eh? Bloody news to me! Honestly, I'm not been funny with the residents of that part of Stanley, but there other places in the Wakefield district where nature lovers can see all kinds of wildlife:
BRETTON COUNTRY PARK (NOT THE SCUPLTURE PARK)
PUGNEYS
WINTERSETT RESERVOIR
HEMSWORTH WATERPARK
NOSTELL PRIORY
NEWMILLERDAM
THE COUNTRYSIDE SURROUNDING HEATH COMMON AND WARMFIELD
ANYWHERE ON THE BANKS OF THE CALDER/HEBBLE CANAL
Adding to that for birdwatchers
HORBURY LAGOON
THORNES PARK
OR FAIRBURNINGS FOR THE REALLY DESPERATE.
We've already been rejected/let down by the council for a previous site and my father at his previous job at the council was sometimes able to gain access to the planning department and they have said that once we have a new ground, Belle Vue's going to be sold and turned into a housing estate, so developing what we have got at the moment is not an option at all.
So I urge all Trinity supporters to bombard the Wakefield Express/council in the coming weeks with letters pleading our case for the new ground that we need so desparately, because after all, this is not some off-the-cuff-hobby or eighty minutes worth of folly are even a shocking for of refundable-warranting violence as a dear "friend" of ours in Durkar believes it to be. This is part of Wakefield's culture, heritage and lifestyle we are talking about and without people who would like to see us move forward, all of it will disappear, forever. And do we really want to see our city become to outsiders a poor-relation suburb of Leeds (which we all know it definitely is not!) only famous for rhubarb, a crop originally associated with Mongolia and Siberia and a prison that houses some of the most notorious and sadistic criminals in the country and do we really want be known for that? Do we?!?!?!?!

| I can understand why non-rugby people would be bothered if they live round there. I wouldn't want, for example, an ice hockey rink on a field behind my house.
Politically easier this time though. The Thornes area was more of a Tory hotspot, and so it gave the Conservatives a reason to object. Also, Thornes Park has more of an emotional pull for the city, as it is the city's park. A lot less people will be as bothered about the site of an old colliery by the motorway, and so politically less of a problem for all parties.
