Think Spencer was at Leeds for 2 year at the most .The point that Vast man is making is Jowitt is proving that he should have the number one shirt because is last 2 matches have been the best by any full back at Wakefield this season

I thought he was excellent in his first couple of years especially and just really dependable. He then seemed to get aggro (on here anyway) over how sluggishly he returned the ball

They replaced him with John Gallagher which turned out to be a bad move.

I have not read all the thread but one of the best relatively recently was Martin Holland who could tackle and catch the high ball. The one problem was he lacked any pace which always held him back.

You've got to give it to Jowitt He's stuck with uit & now looks like he's coming into his own. If he can keep up this form definitely should be our No1. Well done that man

RL Project (great website btw) has Spencer down as playing 4 seasons for Leeds, from '87 to '91. I always thought it was a trade for Mason, Wilson, Conway plus cash.

Holland was safe as houses at the back, it's a different role these days though, I suspect if he played now he would be a defensive centre. I seem to re-call he had offers from clubs in the first division but didn't want to play for anyone else apart from Trinity.

After they bought Gallagher they released Spencer so he came back.

Bit misleading. There were a lot of mid season signings and loans in those days. I reckon he left during a season but I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure he came back to us on loan before making it permanent. He was almost always surplus at Leeds.

He may have been part of the famous 2 for 4 deal we did with Leeds when he went but I’m not sure on that.

It was, I think those players were the genesis of the Trinity team you see today. Without two of those four we’d have never stayed in the old first division and would have ended up like Oldham.

I think we got five Leeds players in exchange, we got both the Rayne twins. It was about the same time as the Merlin rugby league swap cards were doing the rounds. There was a joke going round at the time that Leeds coach offered Dave Toplis to exchange five players for Lyons and Spencer, and David Toplis said he already had the five cards leeds were offering.

Nobody one to one got past Blaymire pace was his downfall I saw cooper and Round running fullbacks but ankle tackling no ,,1s wasn't any better than Eric Lockwood

Only Keith came back in that deal. Kevin stayed at Leeds and then I think went to Doncaster. They were more experienced players by then.

Can that BLM and to be honest he always came across to me as up his own arris when I spoke to him in the stores . Great times all the same .

I came across him at BV around 1989 I think. I asked him if he knew where the boardroom was, you’d think I’d asked him if I could sleep with his sister! He is the most unpleasant player I’ve ever met, most have been fine. Might have been a bad day who knows.

I haven’t been watching Trinity long compared to most of you but Jowitt is turning out to be the best fullback I’ve seen down at BV. Started watching mid 2000’s.

Surely now he's not gunna be messed about any more. He is the number 1. I imagine a few other clubs will be taking note too.

He's been the best full back at the club since he broke into the team, now he's getting a solid run he's showing what he can do. Grix's presence stunted his development in the short term but it seems that only made him stronger now.
