Like many I'm a little underwhelmed by this signing but I'm prepared to back him while ever he's playing for us. He offers utility value and I guess will cover various positions in the back line. I'm sure there'll be bigger fish announced soon and trust the club are doing their utmost to get us the best they can.

32 year old has been really a never was - wakey to a tee " we do not want to improve"

Surely being a full back who can cover at a push the halves and brings the right attitude and mentality is better than a tansey?

Tansey is a miles better player than Grix, Hall is a better player by a country mile, why have we let a gifted player like Hall go and brought in a old knackered dud like Grix is beyond belief. I would have kept Hall, let Tansey go, used the money saved on letting Tansey go and the money saved on not signing Grix and Wood and made a serious effort to sign Hampshire. That would be a proper signing, a Wakey lad, a young player with years ahead of him. a player who is on a different level ability wise than anyone else in the squad, a durable player whose signature would sell season tickets. Don`t kid yourself Grix is on decent money, if we had to sign him out of some loyalty to Kear, who will be difficult to say no to, then at best it should have been on a pay as you play basis only.

I couldn't get past your first 8 words. No he's really not! And the difference in professionalism is astounding! He's older and slower than he was when he last played for you, and I'm sure the joints are struggling- but he has one of the best cardio fitness levels at our club. He's never going to be a world beater I agree. He's taken some stick from some of our fans, who see the odd missed one on one tackles (when at least two other blokes have missed) or a dropped ball under pressure and call him on that. But don't underestimate how he can and will organise a defensive line. Check out our points against when he hasn't played compared to when he has. Have a chat to players in the know whove played alongside him, they think highly of him and they will tell you how well he can read plays. you have to look beyond the obvious errors he makes. He won't win you trophies, but that's not why you signed him.

We have had to move players round and out of their normal position so this will mean some effective cover and while he is certainly older I think he can do a good job for us. Welcome back.

Hopefully just a squad filler who can cover a number of the positions in the backs. I don't see him as first choice in any of them. Only thing I would grumble at is the contract length for a 32/33 year old who has had a fair number of injuries recently.

OK so we have Grix we can disagree and hoped to be proved wrong but its done.

I think its the way things are built up by people at the club creates the despondency to such signings as Scott Grix.

Chester said something like if you keep signing the same type of player you keep getting the same results. Is Grix a typical same type of player, I would say he is.

Then we hear we are reducing the quantity of the squad to get in more quality and I think everyone would agree with that. Debatable if Grix provides better quality.

Keegan Hirst.... fair enough, work in progress, expect the odd signing like him.

Scott Grix... must admit was expecting more.


All I can say is the next two or three must be terrific signings or someone has been feeding us some bull.

I am not sure about the comments of him covering in the halves.

The talk of Hampshire coming would have been good, but I think the sticking point there would be the fact that I believe he is contracted for another couple of years, and would demand a fee, and quite a large one. I don't think we would be in a position to do that. The only way I could see it happening would be as a swap deal for one of our players, and can only really see SW going for one, a certain young winger we have.

I've always liked Scott Grix - there. I've said it.

A whole host of Giant's players on Twitter have heaped praise on him.....with one calling him the 'ultimate professional.'

Perhaps Scott can bring his professionalism to the club and this rubs off on some of ours already here!

We do need quality over quantity but sometimes money doesn't talk and players look at the whole package and at the moment Trinity is not a very attractive package.

If we aren't an attractive package, then how come an Australian Test back rower has ended up at Wakefield.

I would be curious to know the percentage of Australians currently in Super League are actually full Australian internationals. I wouldn't think it would be over high to be honest

I'm baffled by the reaction to this signing - for sure Grix isn't a world beater and wouldn't be our first choice FB... but isn't that Max Jowitt, who has been the recipient of high praise all season? Were people suddenly expecting us to sign a player who would slot straight in above him?!

Grix is one of the best utility backs in SL - in that he can cover the whole back line with a fair degree of competency; and if accounts are to be believed, a super-committed, serious pro who takes his own fitness and conditioning very seriously - with lads like Jowitt, Mazive and Johnstone cementing regular slots, I'd have thought that would be a boon in terms of providing a good role model?

Quite - we don't know the half of this story!

Well said Bren. I think it was Chester who said its what Grix brings on and off the field. Something similar anyhow. Perhaps we need more of a professional attitude within the club.

I've nothing to share - just pointing out that unless you in the room when all this was planned you can't possibly know the whys or wherefores. I think we have looked for a player with a better attitude as well as contributing to the team, but I don't know this.
