| In the hope of resolving this; The dictionary definition of legend is: one who is renowned for outstanding deeds or qualities whether real or fictitious.
So it can be one game or one year or a lifetime as there is no timescales
Back on thread and its Trevor Skerret for me

| Quote ="KevW60349"been watching Trinity for over 50 years and Ray Price, Wally Lewis [my number one and Dave Topliss are also my top 3 Trinity players. it was an absolute joy to watch all 3 playing Rugby League.'"
Must have started watching the club about the same time and 100% agree with you, every one of them a rugby league legend in their own right. We may have only have had wally lewis and ray price for short spells but there ability, professionalism and talent were second to none. Used to remember Ray facing back to catch the ball if it hit the uprights, wally when he came back out with the turban at halifax, david topliss good friend and a great player.
Some of the better memories of the club over the years.
Club wise paul mcdermott, worlds most unlucky player missing out at wembley, dick jazievic was really tough , nigel bell and richard slater were great clubmen and home grown talents. Graham idle had to be the best off all of these great tackles and the sheer volume of them over a long period of time
It is funny though as an amateur only player I used to look at some of the pros and think they weren't all that - until i did my coaching course with stuart smith - who i d always though wasn't all that, in a training game he just about broke me in two ....

| Brad Waugh was a real tough tackler more recently Washbrook also agree with Graham Idle god did he get through some graft and not just defending there are plenty more that have not been mentioned. My Dad always says for a winger Booker says they didn't want to be tackled by him many times

| I've just had a quick look through the list of players and I'm not sure we've ever really had the enforcer type of player that would strike fear in to an attacker since the Turner days.
Brad Waugh, James Stosic, Adam Watene were all tough tackling blokes who could shake you up up but not really renowned for it. Certainly Trevor Skerrett was a top tacker and probably the best I've seen and I think Ellis is the most recent who stands out for me but not like an Adrian Morley or Andy Platt or Kurt Sorensen who would smash you if they could get to you.
I'd like our front row to have some of that in them this season.
We have had plenty of the workers who will run you down and they are important but sometimes I'd like the opposition to feel a bit intimidated when they take the ball in, not just disappointed because we got across to tackle them.

Even in these so-called austerity times isn't it about time our city fathers (not including Box) contacted Barnsley sculptor Graham Ibberson to commission a statue of Neil Fox similar to that of Dickie Bird. It should hold pride of place in the Bull Ring, and get rid of those Ruddy fountains.
It would be nice if a public subscription could be started for such a tribute, but we're talking about the Wakefield public aren't we?

| Richard Slater rarely missed a tackle, but for me personally Ray Price is probably the best I've seen. His hit on Ellery Hanley was prob the biggest hit I've seen at Belle Vue

| Idle & McDermott were machines but as a tackling full back Trevor Midgley was rarely beaten. JOHN Burke was pretty handy too

| Who was that Cas thuggish second rower (I think) who Received a dose of rough justice from Ray Price and spent about ten minutes reeling all over the ground in a daze as though he'd just spent a night in the Graziers? The image is still strong in my mind, but I can't recall the Cas player's name. He didn't try it on again though.

When he went on tour down under he was in the mid week team, one game, which is online somewhere, the Aussie commentators were raving about him, questioning why he wasn't playing in the starting line up and that he would go well down under.
He did a big tackle and they all cheered it.

| They are the unsung hero's, the tackling machines.
Nigel Bell is a gimme but John Glancy alongside him was a good portion of the engine room late 80's early 90's
In later years I thought Mortimer and Demetrieu went the extra mile to make a tackle.
Ray Price had proper damaging technique.
I would also mention Paul Mallinder, but we don't really count a knockout punch as a tackle these days...lol

| Do remember Hegarty putting in an amazing tackle on wing at Batley but also remember some big hits by Aussie Geoff Gerrard in his spell at Wakefield. Pound for pound there cant be many better tacklers than Danny Brough but overall would go for Trever Skerett.
