Ben has a 'complicated' personal life, he left because he REALLY needed the cash.
He was very close to returning before his last contract at Warrington

| If the rumours are true, maybe Agar might not be looking at Westwood for 2nd row, he has always had the frame and has gradually filled it out. A bit like Morley. Could be a prop in the making?

I seem to remember a relative of his coming on to a website and telling everybody that Ben was told he had to leave Wakefield because Warrington wanted Nathan Wood and him, and were prepared to pay a fee for him. From that they said Ben never wanted to leave Wakefield? or did I dream this?

You are correct, he was SOLD to Wire.

The cash helped fend off the ''Wolves'' from the door for a while.
If I remember rightly we had trouble paying the water bill at the time and watering the pitch became an issue.
Hey the good old days eh????

That's exactly how it was reported at the time.
As for now, I don't like the idea of a trade-off with Annakin, because we should be looking long term. That said, if push comes to shove, I'd take proven class over potential class in the short term.

| The reality is that when we are able to get Westwood, it's no longer the time to have him. A superb forward but forwards don't last forever. Investing in players like Annakin is the way forward.

It cuts both ways. Young players don't always maintain their potential either.
Ben's experience would be great for us, if he has another 2-3 years top class playing ability in him.
Having both of them playing in our team together would be the icing and the cherry, though.

What trade in ? the only person I've seen mention it is Kinley on this thread but where else has it been brought up.

I think it's more a "what if" than "when", but don't doubt the Kin...

| Ben Westwood is a player I'd love to have in his pomp, but the lad has taken a lot of hammer and that takes it toll. Signing him would be a question of money and the length of the contract. Also we must bear in mind second row is the position we least need support. Come on now coaching staff lets invest where we need it!
If it comes to a swap between him and annakin, then my votes for annakin all the way.

| Annakin is OOC. Why on earth would there be any sort of trade off? I'm sure Trinity will be offering him a contract. Whether he accepts it will depend on what's on offer else where. If Westwood were to come here it would be a totally unrelated deal.

| I'm sure out coaching staff have the nous to realise that the back row is well covered
However BW would be an excellent addition as a front row he did play at prop for a time at wire
Never shirks a tackle and would be a real threat to any opposition

| Isnt Alis contract ending this year? And hes not been as effective this year, looks abit off the pace and carrying a few extra pounds. This could be his last year with us and Ben could be a good replacement to keep the experience and teach the younger second rows?

We are 11 rounds into the season, Ali has looked very much the same player as last season to me, given the right service he is still devastating, defenders go reeling when he's running at them. Westwood would be an awesome signing for me, like someone said in another post he should have been man of steel the other year. It's very unlikely he would return to us though, there will be too much money on the table from elsewhere.

| Would be over the moon to sign Ben back but I doubt it will happen. Either way re-signing Annakin is a must.

| I think this is all about timing:
Timing as to when we sign him and timing as to the length of contract.
I'd be delighted with Ben in 2014, unsure about 2015 and scared to death about 2016. The reality of any deal would be that Ben would want 2016 if possible and 2015 for sure - that may be where the bones of the deal lie.
Annakin I would be happy with up to around 2023!!!
I am really, really nervous about the Annakin situation - especially given that some of us have been championing his abbilities for a long time. He is now a marketable product and there appears to be a lack of joined up thinking when you take the position as a whole!

| We know we dont spend up to the full salary cap but he would want a nice slice of that.Other clubs would also want him and some of them would be in front of us thats for sure.

correct it can also be found in print on his testimonial website. www.benniewestwood.co.uk
"In 2002, Bennie turned up at training to be told he'd been sold along with Nathan Wood to Warrington. Which was a slight problem, given the 21 year old Bennie had no car, or drivers licence for that matter. "
He has settled here since moving in 2004. He appears to enjoy living in one of the nicer parts of Town....(there are some!!)
And I would think it a kick in the nuts to the fans that have supported and are still supporting his various testimonial events for him to pocket the money and then waltz back to Wakey....
and doesnt that mean he also qualifies to have some of his salary 'not' count on the Salary cap due to his length of service?
I think Parker decided it was too boring to state a pretty obvious move like the Morley to Salford one on its own so just chucked some Random names in to spice it up.

Why? if he has given ten years fantastic service to Warrington why would they begrudge him going back 'home'?

Why would you feel that way when you're contributing for his 10 years at the club, not what he will do in the future. Fair play to Westwood as well, at least he's stayed 10 years, I hate these testimonials for having a 10 year career, complete nonsense.
