| Wonder what the council would do if we said we'd pay commercial rent. What delay tactics would they use then.

I think the community stadium side of things has been lost in all this for locals.
Too many think it's just a Trinity stadium.'"
Quite so but within the current & latest proposal where are the Community sports facilities that were just as big a part of the SOS ruling as the stadium was?
The oft quoted mantra of ‘we just want what we were promised’ seems to conveniently exclude the sports facilities which were to serve the sporting communities of Wakefield. At the moment it looks like we’re happy to sacrifice those facilities just to get a deal.
If we want to recruit support for this cause from the wider community of non Trinity supporters then the non Stadium facilities need to be fought for just as hard, in fact they need to be at the forefront of every conversation or media release. Anything less and it will look like we’re only bothered about getting a free stadium for Wakefield Trinity.

No we have not sacrificed the other community facilities. We have made it clear that if the stadium is to be at Belle Vue then there still needs to be those facilities that were to be provided at Newmarket provided in the Stanley area. Maybe that is why we are being unreasonable.

Well my apologies if I’ve missed it or misread the previous press releases but I can’t remember it being mentioned at all as part of this recent Belle Vue Development proposal.
Can you quote or point me toward a passage from the clubs or councils press release where this is covered?

The only press releases have been made by the Council and they do not cover it but the Trust has stated to the Council that there is still an obligation to provide those community facilities which must be met and covered by any subsequent Section 106/CIL Agreements between the Council and Yorkcourt as and when new planning applications are submitted.

That’s good to hear, as I said earlier I think much more needs to be said about this part of the developers obligations as to the casual it seems all about and only about the stadium.

| That's a very good point.
I do think to get the general public onside, you really do need to highlight what benefits and amenities will be available to the wider community. As a non Wakefield fan and Wakefield citizen, I have absolutely no idea what these are. I could probably research it but, it's unreasonable to think all Wakefield citizens will do that. They need the information on a plate, so they have something to support.
Unfortunately, at this point too many people consider it to be a "free stadium for Wakefield trinity paid for by the tax payer" and the community benefits appear to have been lost in the murky waters surrounding it all.
The council have done their best to get the voters and tax payers on their side with regard to the situation. The trust need to show that their number one priority is the citizens of Wakefield, with an added benefit for Wakefield trinity rlfc. Not the other way around.

Good idea but I don't think either would give MC free reign to push his cause.
However if they could get Box and MC on at the same time that would really make a good watch.
They'd need Paxo in between them.

| Having heard box speak in public at that open council meeting some months ago I was surprised at how poor a public speaker he is. He seemed to have no confidence and relied on cheap humour to overcome his nerves. For someone in such high position he is a very poor orator. Come to think of it has anyone ever seen him speak on local TV? He would probably instruct a more eloquent lacky to stand in for him in any public confrontation with MC

The only people who are peddling the " it's a stadium for Wakefield Trinity paid by the tax payer" are supporters of other clubs desperate for us not to get a stadium as they fear we have bigger potential than them. The general Wakefield public know WMDC are either currupt or inept or both. The points raised on this thread regarding the community facilities the 4 g pitches etc that were promised along side the community stadium show this so called council have shown no political will just contempt.

What a loada piffle.
If you read the statement carefully from the council, that's EXACTLY the way they are portraying it to the public. That Wakefield want a ground paid for by the tax payer.
I know this isn't true, you know this isn't true.....
But the average Wakefield citizen who's unaware of the ins and outs has no reason to doubt the information in the council statemet.
Make it about fans of other clubs is that's what helps you sleep at night, but this in so many ways transcends rugby league. You need to take your blinkers off for a minute to see the bigger picture.
I'm as much a supporter of Wakefield community trust as any Wakefield fan, as they are operating on behalf of ALL Wakefield citizens, of which I am one, not just on behalf of Wakefield trinity and its supporters.
If you don't realise this then you're a big a part of the wider problem.
You also say "EVERYONE KNOWS the council is corrupt"
Define everyone? People still keep coming out and voting labour so I don't know what your basis for that is.
Please don't quote me if you're gonna talk absolute garbage in response.

| The debate on the last two or three pages have in a way proved my point. Why is legal advice needed just to reply to the council statement. That is surely just putting in the public domain your side of the argument, without making any statements which could prejudice it. The longer we wait the more it becomes entrenched in the minds of the public what the council is saying.

Strikes me this research is based on one source, Casforum. There are some thoughtful & considered contributions on there, but the overall picture is spiteful to say the least.

LET US NOT FORGET the CEO of a certain club even wrote a letter to the public enquiry objecting to the plans. This was widely endorsed by the majority of the fans of that club.

| Well, I'm a Bulls fan, but I'm also a Wakefield council tax payer who has suffered from the drastic cutting of services in the area. My daughters swimming club no longer have their pool after it was shut by wmdc.
So I've followed this story, and I understand trinity have been, at best, woefully let down by wmdc on this, but I would just add that the general perception of the people I've spoken to about this is that whilst they agree that wmdc are pretty inept, they are also pretty much hamstrung financially by lower distributions from central government, and their story from last week of trinity backing out as you won't pay a commercial rent and not having the burden on the taxpayer is the story that's stuck, even if it's false, and forgets the original deal of a stadium provided by the developer for the gifting of greenbelt land to build that eyesore.
So I really think the club needs to get its legal advice quicker and issue a strong statement, because you're losing the perception "battle" with the general wmdc public, the majority of whom don't know the full details, don't go on rl forums, but do read and believe (mostly) council statements in the local press, and they don't really care beyond "how can the council pay for a stadium but shut my pool/library etc."
Good luck, i hope you get the community stadium promised by the developer -and that I don't end up paying for it whilst I still have to drive past the white eyesore to stand on the decaying odsal terraces

I made exactly this point a number of months ago - and it's even truer now than it was then; there has been far to much focus on this as a stadium for WT, and very little mention of the developers obligation to the Wakefield public in return for being gifted pp on green belt land. Mr Box has exploited that with his latest stunt, and the club/trust seem happy to let it stand.

Agreed, we are missing a "trick" by not mentioning the "Community" facilities at every occasion.
Trinity are being made out as the villain here, when the polar opposite is the case and the wider public believe that WMDC are funding the project and not merely loaning the cash until they are successful in recouping the loan from the developers.
Maybe this is part of WMDC's plan, which removes much of the pressure on them to actually do something.
