| Quote ="Dunkirk Spirit"I went to school there, left in 1962, played plenty of Rugby on those fields, i believe Westgate Common RL played their games there at one time, difficult to think nothing has been built on some of that land in the past 60 years, but it could be an ideal site for community sports development.'"
West gate wolves were the last team to play out of there, it’s a bit of a sad tale what happened and the monies that went missing and debts left, over a hundred kids left with no club overnight. Would be a good spot due to the fencing, although I’m not 100% sure there is enough field space for what is ultimately required

A large chunk of Snapey's sports fields had been given over to housing last time I had a nostalgic walk around the outside perimeter. .

I think it was an opening proposal by a developer that neither the council nor the locals really warmed to. That Brook Farm alternative is mainly on a massive slope so I can't see it being suitable as an alternative WY Sports site anyway.

I think the most underused sports facility in Wakefield is the old Police Fields at Sandal. There is probably room for four pitches there and a facility building. Don't know who owns it, or if access may be an issue.

I played at this venue about from '81 through to '84 for the now defunct Castle ARLFC... really good space and always had fantastic potential... good friends and good memories.

| What about just around the corner on Neil Fox Way, i know there's loads of house building going on but if i remember rightly, large areas are also for use as industrial, pub restaurants etc, leisure facilities.
Does WMDC own this land,or is it privately owned?
Anyway would be ideal if there was space available to build our own facilities.

Potentially, but there is a precedent, certainly where the cabins are.

Not sure if it would, i can remember the old wooden West stand that was demolished after the Bradford stadium fire, along with just about every other wooden stadium stands,(how did Cas get away with it.).
The height of our old Western stand was quite considerable, so perhaps we could use that as leverage.

Yes, and there is a structure already there. else he buys all the posts behind and removes the issue completely!

| The old stand having been there years possibly before the houses were built set the precedent I would suggest so pp should not be an issue on the height of a structure.

Indeed, but the fact there is still something there is the precedent. The much maligned portacabins may just have retained rights for the height we may need to get a decent structure in place.

| I don't think there'll be an issue...you can't object to planning permission because it spoils your view, only if it blocks light from your property. As the houses have long gardens, and are oriented so that the path of the sun wouldn't be blocked by any development, there's no grounds for objection on that score.

Good points.
And I agree with Klav, the precedent has been set by the cabins.
It's more about time. Any objections will inevitably slow down the build, and impact on SL and IMG.
So it's in our interest to create as lower impact structure as is possible, but still big enough to suit our needs, show willing in other words.

| I don't think it needs to be that big anyway. It's not like we need another version of the Neil Fox Stand.
I think it needs to be covered and as long as possible.
If its standing it needs better concrete. If there's seating it doesn't have go be the whole width so that there are still options to stand. Much like the old one.
In terms of planning, I don't think it would need to be taller than two story house and houses would get planning permission there.

The front needs to start at ground level and be a lot steeper than it is now.
I've not stood on the West Terrace for over 15 years prior to last season, I don't remember the view being so bad but it was awful even after they moved the dugouts. It might not get us many IMG points, but it could definitely be more attractive to away fans.

Excellent point, we should be aiming to provide a modern enjoyable experience for everyone in the ground...even visiting supporters. The view from there is shocking, even if you're 6 foot tall! Having said that, it wouldn't be top of my 'To Do' list. And I'd save a section of crappy terracing for Leeds supporters.

| Here are 2 options that I know will work, because the people who built them at Maidstone United came up and gave JM a quote. I don't know the price, he didn't say, but I do know they are one of the cheapest options out there AND THEY DEFINITELY FIT. They are modular and much of it arrives pre-assembled.

My mistake, I should have said cost effective, no modern stands are cheap.
You're hopefully correct, and we get something really interesting. I used these as example of the kinds of configurations the space provides, rather than actual designs we should adopt.

| I might be on my own but if we improve the West to this extent I'd make that home crowd and give North Stand to away fans.
I know people like the atmosphere but it could be transferred and the view will be much better.

Well if things go really well and the crowds do flock back, then we the home fans can have both the North and West sides of the ground, and we will have to build a new South stand for the away fans. We can live in hope.
Out of interest, my father in law always told me that in the sixties and seventies the South stand was the home end, and the North was for away fans. I don't know if this is correct, but if so it means there is no historical precedent that the home fans need to be in the North stand.
