| Quote ="Pat Bateman"Wakefield have had more rubbish seasons then good unfortunately during my time of watching so a lot of lads I went to school with supported the Rhinos. Thats the past and there’s nothing much that can be done about that. The investment into the community clubs and wanting the kids to not only come watch Wakefield but actually dream to play for them is the future.'"
Things are pretty good for Trinity right now, in fact, probably the best they have been since I started watching seriously in the late 80's.
Stadium development firmly (and finally) on its way.
Superb community links
An excellent nucleus of home grown players in the first 17
Top 6 league position
And one of, if not the most exciting player in SL
There is absolutely no doubt that the club is moving forward on all fronts and although it's been said so many times over the years, now is the time for the Wakefield public to come down and see what they are missing.
With Leeds imploding, maybe, just maybe, some of their Wakefield based fans could follow their home town club too.
Forgot to mention that Trinity are about to celebrate the 150th birthday - next season if my maths is correct !

Agree with all that, this is definitely the most stable time on all fronts it’s been being a Wakey fan ie off field and on during my time of watching them (late 90’s). It always makes me laugh the amount of cars On the m1 with people wearing Rhinos tops on you see coming from Wakefield when we play them.

| I think we have to accept that watching any sport falls under the luxury category for many people. With the cost of living crisis now hitting everyone, watching Wakefield will be low on many people’s priorities. It will be the same for all clubs and will be reflected in the attendances.

Is that why Cas are only getting 10k?

It's true that, when cash gets tight, people will pick and choose how to spend their cash.
However, for me, watching Trinity has and always will be a chance to forget the daily "grind" and "escape" for a few hours.
Equally, IF we can have some success and especially when there are some better facilities, people will be drawn to Belle Vue.
This is why the game this coming weekend is so important.
Some hope in the gloom

| A lot of people wouldn’t think twice of spending £60/80 a week on fags or £60/80 on a Friday night having a drink. Each to their own, everyone has a method of chilling out or doing something in which they enjoy. For me that’s watching Wakefield.

That's fine and completely agree, but not everybody has got that sort of money to throw around, those that can and do are either fortunate or maybe selfish with their families missing out on some necessities, the more sensible people will get they're priorities in order, unfortunately not everyone has a choice of chilling out.

| No disrespect to anyone who lives in Castleford but they seem to be able to get big numbers to watch their team ,and arguably nowhere in the wakefield district has there been more hardship with factories and the mines closing ,and I take my hat off to them ,despite this they pack their club out on a match day .I’d say Wakefield’s problem isn’t lack of money in the general public it’s apathy. Lost count of the people I bump into who used to go and it’s never the money that’s stopped them coming it’s the performances that they got fed up with, and I think it will take a fair few more decent performances to start this steady trickle into a stream ,but hopefully keep winning and the revamp and hopefully match day entertainment and things will turn round , starting with giving Wigan a thumping and a date at Elland Road

I understand that the cost of living and inflation at the moment is crippling a lot of people, and people have other priorities, it’s understandable. I’m only talking from personal experience, and that’s a working class one. I personally choose to spend £25 on a ticket then go out for beers or what other people do in their own time, fortunately that’s in my budget (again not a big one btw).

| I visited Cas Market last week and was surprised how many stall holders promote the Tigers.
Unless the council can improve the Wakefield centre it will always fall short of what's going on in and around Cas.
I must have seen at least 20 people in Cas shirts and loads of cars parked up with stickers in them.
The club need to find a way of generating that level of interest and improving on it year after year.
Feeling part of the club goes a long way to achieving good community relations.

| Quote ="Divdav77"RL is in demise generally. Rugby is still not and should never be a summer sport. Grassroots and amateur rugby has suffered because of this. How many teams take part these days? That's why the numbers are down across the board. I'll be honest I don't get to as many games as I would like but that's because of where I live, not that I don't want to go every week.'"
Apart from Football, most sport is struggling.
Cricket teams are disappearing fast and the bottom line is that kid's generally just dont want to commit to training and playing, plus a whole myriad of other reasons.
As for summer rugby, although we all turned up in winter and stood in the freezing cold and rain etc, it's certainly a more enjoyable watch with the sun on your face.
The big down side is holiday disruption especially for some kids and families etc.

If RL had stayed as a winter sport it would no longer exist, it saved the sport imo.

Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but in what way do the stall holders at Cas promote the tigers?.
And out of interest just what have Wakefield council got to do to bring the city centre up to the standards of Cas vegas and everything it encompasses.
I dare bet if you go into Wakey there will be plenty of replica shirts on show as well, although most Wakey fans would be at work during the day when the market is open.
You set off by criticising Wakefield council for they're alleged lack of foresight in bringing the city up to the exulting standards of Cas, and then finish by complaining that the club need to do more to improve the level of interest, is that club business, or council business, somehow I don't think giving the fans a car sticker will cut it.

| The other code survives playing in Winter and so do the NRL. We only switched for Sky not the supporters, plus less distractions and calls on people’s income in Winter. I don’t know if switching to the so called Summer season saved the sport, no one knows but if they do what are the lottery numbers for Wednesday.

Chissitt I do excuse your ignorance but take a visit and make your own observations rather than implying that Cas folk don't work.
Now regarding the council I would say that Cas have received a very good level of investment over the past few years resulting in a lively escape and town area
I don't particularly care what you think but the Cas public have embrased the club and town

Apart from football and rugby union
Union doesn't rely quite as much on attendance as we do as the RFU is far richer because of corporate funding.
And I'm no expert but I don't think NRL Winter is quite the same as ours.
Also, less games cancelled because of the weather in summer.

Correct. When we played RL in winter club RU was a joke, not even semi pro. Now club RU is bigger than RL. If we shared the same season I seriously doubt we’d get any kind of TV deal. Hence the sport would be at best semi pro at worst swallowed up by RU or at least all its players would be.
Of course we went to summer for SKY, there was no option
