We have all been guilty of believing it was going to happen. I was just a gullible as everyone in the early days. I now believe there was never any intention to build a stadium and there never will be. It was always a ploy to line a developers pocket.

The latest people on board are just doing the same and are using the club to gain a very lucrative deal to develop Thornes Park.

I never realised just how impotent the SoS would be in all the shenanigans. My naive mind may have expected that a Conservative government would have loved to kick a Labour controlled council right where it hurts ?
Maybe Mr Box is as important as he says that he is ??

I would threaten legal action. Box seemed to squirm a little when it was mentioned before.

Why do you think that? Every time an agreement or some sort of announced progress is announced, nothing happens then within weeks, one or other of the agencies that hold all the cards here, back tracks on something or other and we are back in limbo, which is where, from the outside, we appear to be now.

As part of the last great announcement, didn't we concede that everything had been done properly by WMDC (I'm sure the public announcement of that belief was part of the deal)?

Who knows? We hear things like this....then all goes quiet interminably. I am not sure why some are saying they are sick of this thread. I like many others, would like to know what is going on, even if it's nothing is changing. At least some reasons why it isn't changing would leave us knowing where we stand. The way it looks at the moment, we will be stuck like this till SL kick us out, which frankly, I don't think is very far away

Apologies if this question has been dealt with in the multi page posts that keep reappearing and are hard to follow now because of that, but has buying into Dewsbury, ground sharing and getting their stadium up to SL level been looked at? Is that viable? Obviously its their ground and we can't assume they would want to do that but it is only just outside the boundary of Wakefield. It's far from ideal of course, but it could save our SL bacon...maybe?? I am sick to death of us dancing to this tune that is dictated by WMDC, Manny Hussein and Yorkcourt Properties. We are being played for fools and I don't think MC or the Trust are fools by the way in saying that, it's just that I think all that can be done has been done by our team of people and those 3 appear to twist, squirm and manipulate their way out of their promises at every turn. Unless any of you in the know would like to explain what else can be done? I can't see what and have begun to feel that maybe it's time to move on now. We will be stuck here forever otherwise.

Well I've kinda worked out what the sketch is over recent years, we're having a lot of trouble staging events in Thornes Park, Wakefield Council are extremely disinterested in engaging support for anything that is of benefit to the community.
I suspect they don't actually want any events to take place there because that would indicate it be a popular, frequently used resource, thus making it tougher from a public opinion perspective, to turn over to developers.

I can believe that. The same thing has happened with the football & rugby pitches next to Castleford swimming pool. Over several years the Council took down the posts, so kids stopped going, the council stopped cutting the grass & now the land is for sale ("suitable for development"icon_wink.gif.
I get that WMDC have had to make changes following incredible cuts in funding, but their record on sporting/leisure is appalling.

I thought councils had to have so much space for Recreation?

It goes back a lot further and deeper than that mate with the land that was always known as the Bevan Huts.

At least 30 years ago my sons played on those fields for the junior RL team Half Acres Trinity. The club paid to play there but got changed else where. As you say things just got worse and worse and the grass was never cut and then they stopped marking out the pitch so eventually we moved to the Half Acres school pitch which gave them the excuse to take the posts down.
About the same time i played in a 20 overs cricket league on there and although the batting strip was always ok gradually the outfield became over grown and the boundary wasn't marked.
The end finally came when we arrived for our game (paid the fee) to find an unofficial match going on and the 2 teams refused to move.
In hindsight it seems as if this was the plan for the Bevan Huts and other sporting venues.

I’m sure I read in the Wakefield Express in the latter part of last year that the houses in Thornes Park now aren’t being built.

bell Vue is fit for the championship - the way we are going we wont need to move or get a new stadium.....

i was positive about the stadium 20 years ago when it was first bought up.
