| If he can retain the form he showed on the you tube highlights he looks a tremendous signing ,the bit I like is that he took over in the aussie side from renI matoua a player I rate highly ,only downside it was 2006 obviously he's got it let's hope he can produce it

| Sounds like a great signing. It looks like recently he has been used as impact from the bench at Cronulla Sharks at second row...look forward to seeing him play. Think the pack may be sorted just need a quality centre and possibly half back.

| Probably the first blue chip signing since Brad Drew IMHO.
He's clearly past his absolute best let's be honest but all things are relative and if he has he right attitude could still rip it up in SL - so a really positive signing but not the season ticket seller we were apparently promised
This might also go some way to shutting up the somewhat arrogant "realists" as they call themselves (such conceit) - though I doubt it.
So Carter old lad you really need to sign up Thurston ASAP

| Great signing, his biggest contribution might come on the training ground where his attitude and style might rub off on some others.

| Great signing... Watched him on some of the premier sports stuff I have saved... Looked great against souths in this play offs... Scored a try and got stuck in with the tackling too.cronulla wanted to keep him,so not just a cast off.. A bit more fire power in the forwards suits me fine...

| Fantastic signing. Wherever we play him, Miller needs to be on his shoulder. That combo could be very fun to watch.

| Suprised you say hes past it Vastman at 31. Brad Drew was well past it when he joined us he had lost his speed. Topou had plenty of games under his belt last year. The guy will play under Brian Smith and his character suggests he will want to play aswell. Top signing by the MIGHTY TRINITY!

| People talk about props not maturing until they're about 30.
SL is a totally different beast to the NRL.
Tupou is 31 and will be 32 at the start of next season, still plenty of miles in him yet.
On the highlights, Pomeroy always seemed to be lurking where Tupou was running.
Pomeroy may not be quick but he's a big lump of a player and can pass a ball.

| Just watched video of Anthony Toupou and he looks like a good signing. Plays a similar game to Ali Lauititi with great offloads and with similar running skills. Great signing for the club by the looks of things. Maybe 2016 is going to be a lot better season. Come on you Trin.
=#FF0000[size=50Edit......I'll merge this with the other Tupou thread if that's ok....PopTar[/sizet

| Don't think vasty said he was past it,he said he was probably past his absolute best, going on the highlights I saw his strength looks to be a running game and while 31 isn't old particular for a forward any sportsman will tell you legs are first thing to go so all that's been said is hopefully we've got a player near the level we've seen on film

I think this guy is in the Menzies/Morrison class of player and should have more than enough left in his legs.
What worries me far more is our older stand off who hardly had anything in his legs in the first place.

I liked Morrison a lot but Tupou's cv is far better.
I think he'll be great for us and Super League as a whole.

I'm not surprised in the least that you didn't read my post properly.
"He's clearly past his absolute best" is nothing like saying he's past it! He was at his peak 6 years ago when he was getting origin and test selection - that is clearly no longer the case is it!!
Hence we are not getting that player, but we are still hopefully getting a really good one - not rocket science is it?

If hes anything like Peacock he should be hitting his prime at 31

If that were the case he'd still be in the NRL and pushing for Origin/Rep selection - he's nowhere near that and hasn't been for years so i think his prime has passed. Peacock was a freak in a good way but very few players keep it going after their 30's if we are honest. I'd be happy if he maintains the steady form of the last few years in the NRL, that alone would make him our best player and one of the best in SL. So fingers crossed.

| Wouldn't say nowhere near that standard think that is harsh. The Sharks do not want him to go he had a terrific back end of the season usually we sign players that can hardly walk and who have been nowhere near first team. Anyway lets see how he does.

Far from harsh more a comment on the strength of the NRL.
Seriously doubt he is in the top 10 NRL second rowers in which case he's miles off the level he was 6 years ago. That's not a dig just the reality of the situation but he's still a very good player as any NRL regular generally is.

Can you stop yourself? It's been publicised and confirmed to me that the Sharks tried to get him to stay, even as late as last week, but he is an honourable man and told them that he'd committed to us and was intent on meeting that commitment. We have a star coming, a big, bright shining star. Rejoice, enjoy it and spread the word - WTW mean business once again!

| He last played for Australia in 2008 World Cup. Of course that is 7 years ago, but there are plenty of others that played with him that are still playing
Would we be happy with signing
Terry Campese, Joel Monaghan, Kurt Gidley
or maybe Israel Folau, Greg Inglis, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Jonathan Thurston or Anthony Watmough.
He wasn't a bit part in that team either. Tupou played every game.

That is the most pleasing aspect for me because we have had talented players before whose heart wasn't in it.

| Sounds to me like some of the posters on here aren't happy that we have signed a dynamic running former international.
With an attitude that he's not coming over for a holiday.
His CV speaks for itself and if he had signed for on of the 'big' clubs, he probably would be in the top 5 imports for next season.
But of course this is Wakey and in their haste to offer him a lucrative deal, they have overlooked that Anthony Tupou is not a regular goal kicker also, so shame on Wakey for this 'middle of the road' signing.
Think some people need to get real.

Can't see where anyone has said that?
I get the impression all posters are happy with this one - just the proviso that he isn't the 2008 model so let's not overdo it - as I say a potentially brilliant signing.
