| Quote ="vastman"Don't agree with any of the above.
We were never certainties for the drop.
I don't see us as a definite bottom 4 team at all, especially if we get a decent half back or Wildie/Goulding etc come of age.
I think other than the missing HB it's a better balanced squad than the last two seasons and those got a top 8 and should have got a second.
In your reality we may be no hopers but it's not the only one and for me I don't see any problems challenging for 8th with a bit of effort, self belief and a bit of luck it's more than possible.
'"
With you on this. Think we are looking good. Injuries will play their part so I still think we need a half, half cover and a couple of backs and we are sorted

Before we hit bedrock (if indeed we did) when the players were leaving and we still did not know where exactly we were placed financially i would say we were a logical choice for being favourites to be in the bottom two.
Banking on Wildie and Goulding (in particular) would be a massive risk for a whole season, and we would have to have a 7 in place of reasonable quality to get us around the park to even give us a sniff (IMO).
Since then our pack has been strengthened, it looks as comepetetive as last seasons for me, and with the addition of a player to replace Tim Smith i think we will be fine.
Im fairly up beat...now

The thing is, the new signings are untried and we still don't have a scrum half to lead us around the field.
When we did have these things we had a good season but we still didnt make the 8.
So I'm just saying we should be realistic. If we click of course we could challenge higher but we are not there yet in my opinion but I'm looking forward to the challenge.

| TBH tim smith didn't exactly lead us around the field. He hit some great passes but his kicking game was poor in my opinion.
What a difference a few months make eh?

Definitely the right way, we've all seen pedigree doesn't always transfer well from Aus to here.

| He sounds like a similar size and build to Walshaw at 6ft 6 tall and 16 stone? Seems as though he will give good utility forward value but I'll judge him once he's played a few next year.
For me the biggest most important off season signing has not yet been made and is absolutely crucial to our attacking & creative capability and that is having a good quality experienced scrum half... Let's now use what money we've got left in the pot for signings for that and re-signing Goulding as back up on a 1 year contract please?
I wonder if it'll be another ex Paramatta colleague of Tautai and Ryan?..... Ben Roberts?

| Like I said earlier got to wait and see the ability of theseaussie signings ,some one on here wonders if a halfback we might be chasing is another parramatta player in Ben Roberts ,a player whose reluctance or inability to pass cost so moa several tries in the world cup also am I the only one on here who's noticed parramatta finished rock bottom in the nrl, trying not to be negative , but refuse to get carried away until I've seen players not wanted by a club like the eels who surely would want players who could improve their position,if we've got our Aussie signings for the right price fair enough, but I feel we've made em an offer they can't refuse lets hope their worth it

I find it hard to believe that someone with your wide knowledge and experience of the game has not seen Matt Ryan play.
A little incongruent with your previous all seeing and all knowing attitude.
Ps did you also notice that the roosters finished rock bottom in 2012... Then won the comp in 2013?

| Regardless of where they come from, it's what they do here that counts.
Agar shouldn't be picking players who look good for their club, he should be picking players who will look good at OUR club.
We've had plenty of no names who've done really well and a few big names who haven't.
His CV doesn't look bad but I'm more interested in what he says on his way in, which seems good, and how he plays.

| Your point about the roosters doesn't count my point was about the eels letting their best players go,just been on their fans forum and the lads got big raps, many complaining why have they let him go has he was one of their best forwards last season another said he'll kill it over here, maybe I'm wrong I'll be the first to say if I am

I work with a number of parra fans
I will ask their opinion when they get into work.
Fwiw... When I have seen the kid play he is a long streak with pace and aggression.
