| John is a young man in his first serious stint at playing the most important position on the field and he's also moved half way around the world to do it.
He needs some time to adjust and take on the job, Smith is playing well and I'm sure trying to help him settle in to his role.
He needs to show a little improvement IMO each week and before long he will be ticking along nicely, although he does need to start that improvement now.
Personally i wouldn't even consider dropping him for at least another month or two, he needs supporting and nurturing, at some point we may need him to have a spell in the reserves to bring him forward, but i would give him plenty of time before that were to happen.
I feel a little sorry for him he is under a lot of pressure, the goal kicking isn't helping him, but we didn't sign him as a goal kicker, maybe that is a pressure he doesn't need at the moment.
As for Moore, it would have been interesting had he stayed wether he would be in front of Kyle Wood for selection as i think he has played well for us so far, maybe he may put his hand up for a kick at the posts, I'm sure he kicked on occasion for Shudds??

| Was saying to my mate the other day that you would think that one of the fringe players would give it a go, stay behind after training (instead of going to Costa) and spend an hour or so practicing kicking. If they are on the fringe of first team and prove they can kick they would almost certainly get stepped up.
The lack of goalkicking options at present is clear and will cost us games this year.
Giving kicking duties to someone who doesn't really want to do it isn't the way forward either.

| Another eventual option might be to play Johns in the centre for while with Wood at half back and giving Ellis a run.
From there he may be able to drift in and out of stand off in much the same way as Keith Smith used to.Would also give the oppositoon a little more to think about.

| If as a club we don't have a kicker then can we atleast add some humour! perhaps the lads should take it in turns kicking like they do with penalties at teh end of a footie match. If one of them gets one over he should continue until he misses?

Completely agree. I've seen some good signs of him taking on the defensive line and on several occasions just going right through them, and that didn't happen too often last year. Remember everyone it's early days yet but for me the half back setup shows real promise - give them more time, less pressure, more encouragement. Let's recognise what they can do and not criticise them for not matching ridiculous pie-in-the-sky expectations.

Absolutely spot on, said basically the same earlier. How often have payer from down under taken a few games to settle, I can't think of too many that have even hit the ground running especially in the pivotal positions. May be if we took the goal kicking duties away from him it will probably do him a world of good and clear his mind to do the job we paid him.
As far as Tim, he seems to be a bit of a easy target for some reason, even though he's been targeted totally wrongly. I've been really impressed with his attitude and he's settling in very well and been at the crux of most of the tries so far, he's improved his defense as well, which is pleasing.

| Have to agree smith has had a hand in alot of the plays and directed the team around quite well. His defence has been reasonable too being used as third man in which is good tactics.
John needs time, sure he will show us more soon.
We are not struggling to score points or create breaks. It's the defence that has let us down and kick defence vs Bradford. That drops on the centre, wing, fullback toes for the respective targeted side.

To be honest that is like Eddie Large standing next to Rick Whaller and claiming to be slimmer of the year.
Completely fed up of players that have got no balls its embarrassing. Smith grow a pair and take somebody on - you know try to beat a man instead of gobbing off and pointing all over the place before dollying the ball out.

TRB - Has someone hacked your account? This has always been a discussion forum but you have in the past criticised others for negativity.
With regards the point made about Smith, IMO we need to decide which half back we want to do what, as I don't think having two half backs doing the same role works. John seems the more naturally suited to take on the line (and there were signs of this improving on Sunday), whilst Smith does seem to be more of an organiser (but still with the ability to create something), although his kicking game needs to get better. Both have contributed individually in different games, but not both together to any real effect yet - I believe this will come as the season progresses.

Too right. That lad never got a chance and I would have him in our side now as you just cannot take the field without a goalkisker, it's madness

| Gareth Moore has the ability to be a fantastic player given the chance. His kicking game is good and his goal kicking is even better, though he might have had a great job offer for work, aswell as his batley wage he would be earning more than he would be at wakey. I have worked on site with a load of championship players that are earning great wages from there trade and further boosting it by playing for their clubs.

And how he gets some criticism for it too. Some players forget that what they write on Twitter is public.

The funniest thing about his twitter comment is that Kear hardly played him last season, instead choosing to play Tommy Lee out of position, so why if they both came back, would he assume that Kear would play him?

That's fine, and if that's the extent of his ambition in the game, then good luck to him. He seems to be playing well at that level, from what I've read. Nowt against him and nowt against Batley, I hope he goes well there.
Did he have offers from other SL clubs? It's often a fair indicator of your potential as a player. Ben Gledhill found a new club quickly enough, likewise Danny Kirmond and any number of other players who weren't in the frame for one reason or another at their former clubs. Just wondering, like...
