| There are two limits.
One is the maximum any team can spend, the other is relative to your income.
I think we will struggle with the second one for a while.
So there is no promise broken there.

| I spoke to Ewan Dowes the other week in Chiquito's (Kingswood) and he said he had signed a one year deal for you guys. Off the cuff I asked him if the rumours about Paul Cooke returning to Wakey, and he said he had heard Rich Agar had sounded Paul out. I think the signing of Smithy (if true) puts an end to that story!
I reckon your squad for 2012 is looking in good shape, albeit on the skinny side, but much better than last season with the likes of Smith, Ellis, Raleigh and Lauiti.
Erm poptart, you are wrong. There is only the one limit which is in place for all SL clubs - £1.65m.

Another fantastic effort at winning the Apprentice!!!
You can only spend what you can afford or you can generate. The club is doing fantastically well at driving revenue up - hence we will be spending something like 75% more this year than last on players - but that only takes us up to around the £1.4m - a tremendous effort and more than ever before. The promise is that we will be at our SC limit in our third year in SL - and that is in the licence application - so we are bang on track - and, unlike your well thought out plan, we are not spending above our means and risking returning to where we were 12 months ago!

He's right, he's refering to the self imposed limit of £1.3m.

Stop stating things that are "factually correct". Thats not what people on here want to hear.
We want to hear fantasies and stories of how we are going to win the double next season, stop peeing on our bonfires by telling us how it is.

They are indeed because Cas are claimed to be struggling with a salary spend supposedly nearer £1.0m. Mind you last seasons 'underspend' at Wakey will probably have offset a fair bit of this years spree.

the 500k wage bill for last season. Although I don't agree that the lack of spending last year would have any impact on what we spend this.

Alluding loosely to TRBs statement that you're spending 75% more on salaries this year than last.

| I am ashamed to say I was wrong with the percentage of income part of the cap.
Thought I remember that being in place to stop clubs getting in to debt but I've just read the rules and clearly it is not in place now.
Doesn't detract from the point though. A well run business should state a budget that they see is fit. Our club has no idea how many supporters will buy tickets and merchandise over the coming year and same with sponsors. Spending to your means is fine in my opinion, especially if you are keeping reserves for later.

I don't imagine for one minute that last season's underspend has contributed to a war chest for this season; we were underspending last year because we didn't have any money, not because we were stuffing part of it in a shoe box under the mattress.

| If the "horses mouth" is the player, the overheard telephone conversation goes something like this:
"Ewan, we really want you, but we are struggling with the salary cap. Could you go a bit lower? Hmm, bit lower. Lower still. Once more? Lovely. Sign where we've printed your name. Thank you. Click. Hello? Is that Tim Smith? Hi Tim, would you like to play for us next year? Bit lower, I'm afraid.......etc"

| Get them at the right price to start with and then the potential of the player could enable their own contract to grow with our budget over the next few years.
Take Tim Smith as an example, He wanted £X, we offered £X-10k on a one year deal, if he impresses early on he will be in a position to command £X possibly £X +10/20k in his contract extension, which we will be able to reward him with & (most importantly) accommodate responsibly under our growing budget.
Getting the best possible deal ensures you get the right mix of players throughout your squad, without spending unwisely in one area & don't end up a one man team as your paying 20% of the SC to 1 player (Chase).
This is a good approach, one we should have taken on board decades ago!
Well done WTW.

| Maybe if Agar looked at his squad and decided not to have 6 hookers and 5 halfbacks (if Obst, Isaac, and Smith are coming too) in his squad he could have space for a couple of props. Have heard he is trying to offload Higgins

If every other wage stated on our other forum was true we would be spending well over 2 million, you shouldn't believe everything you read on forums, even if it suits your particular agenda, how many people said wakey would defiantly lose there franchise?
Scared of what?

Us.... Our ascent under Glover.... The way we are reinvigorating support (& selling tickets)...
Take your pick.
My original point being that it's better to spend wisely and spread the money around, rather than pay over the odds (Chase) or tie people onto ridiculously long contracts (Goldy) in order to persuade them CT is the best option- which leave you scraping together the Griffin's of the world!
Keep on going your way mate, it's clearly going swimmingly.

Maybe scared that wakefield are recruiting better than cas and will have a better squad come the start of superleague. Just a thought!! How many cas fans thought they were losing their franchise aswell, i know of quite a few, that said looking forward to the derby games and wakefield winning!!!

| It came from the player he wants to sign for the club...naturally after he is unemployed after mid November....Agar wants him...but at the moment we as a club cant fit him into the salary cap.
What that salary cap means is anyones guess,it could mean the full salary cap...i doubt that very much.
I would imagine it meant that Glover has said we have X amount to spend this season on players wages and at the moment we have reached that limit so therefore we can not sign Dowes.
If I remember rightly there was an article in the WE with Agar where he said about balancing the books and trying to get what was the right balance and player structure to fit within the clubs budget and this he is clearly trying to do.
Like all managers in whatever sport when they take over a new club they want to put their own stamp on prooceedings and they will not like all players already contracted to the club and players will naturally move on.
I believe DOWES will sign but contracted player/s will have to leave for this to happen.

Problem with that approach is that by only offering one year deals you run the heavy risk that, if the player in question impresses, he buggers off to a bigger club at the end of the year rather than re-signing with you guys.
