Exactly. I personally think it was better for the development of our own talent, when there was a limit on the number of 'foreign' players a club could sign,but I suppose that ship has sailed.

We have 2 players at the club who can be the future half backs for years to come . Both are loyal club men . One is already ready to play stand off and has in my opinion never let the club down whatever position he had played in . His name is Max Jowitt. The other will be ready soon and just needs to be introduced in to first team football gradually. His name is Connor Bailey. But if you'd rather spend money we haven't got on a player looking for a last pay day before retirement ( Marshall) and another who has never made it in super League ( Lilley ) and destroy team spirit ......

Not to turn this into a MJ thread but being realistic where do people see Max in 5 years?

Looking at the three positions he's played for us, is he always going to be a player that fills in for us or is there realistically a first team place for him?

Fullbacks: Walker, Rocky, Max
Wing: Johnstone, Bish, Kershaw who all primarily play there with Rocky, Max and most of our centres who could fill in for a few games.
H/B: Miller, Rocky, Max, Bailey and J Wood

Fullback - I'd have him as number 1.
Wing - emergency cover
6 - behind Miller, but would be quite happy to see him get games to develop in that position.

Just watched West Tigers vs Sharks from last week and got to say Benji was the best player on the pitch for me, a completely different player to the player he was 10 years ago but still oozes class and shows no signs of slowing down.

Who knows how in demand he will be and what price tag he would come with but if Brough is retiring (Which I would expect) and there is no one to step up I would be highly tempted to bring him in as a player/Assistant coach role for a season if the numbers were right.

Good to see some one who has actually recently watched Benji then commented rather than looking at his age on Wikipedia

Playing behind a pack like all of the NRL sides would probably make me look not too bad, different ball game to SL. Probably could fit into a side like ours due to our edges in SL being a lot weaker than NRL, but, like has been said earlier, Max and Connor and now Young Bowles lets develop them please.

How good or bad he is isn’t the point is it We need to create our own quality players and they won’t get a chance if the available places are choked up by ageing NRL retirees.

It baffles me why people don’t get that. There is a place for overseas players but only those who want a long term career in SL. It not about age though clearly that is a factor, it’s about the long term.

Where as players like Tupou or Fifita will commit to SL for their playing life and even beyond Marshall won’t. He will arrive, take his money and if we are lucky will put in some decent stints. That to me is short term thinking.

Luckily I doubt we could afford him and I doubt he’d join a club like ours. Sadly he’ll join someone like Wigan and by doing so stop the progression of all the young talent said club have hoovered up. Those players will become disillusioned and will probably not full fill their potential - vicious circle imo.

I would take a punt if brough n kirmond both go i know we cant afford him but the young players could learn things from him that have made him a special player over the years and help improve them long term thats the real benefit in signing a player of his class yes i would be annoyed if i were a young player but also want to improve myself to his level

I fear that as Sky funding is being cut by £280,000 per club in 2021 then we'll be trimming the squad rather than adding to it. Hope not but seems inevitable.

Broughy is in talks with Bradford according to total rugby! Kershaw has turned down the offer of a new contract, king off to KR thats 3 as good as gone.
