| I remember Jesus Runner - before running was a thing, he was all over Lupset at all hours of day and night, dressed up like a 118 man; he got dogs abuse from us kids, but his devotion to the running a long way programme made him impervious to our taunts. Ahead of his time!

| I seem to remember a guy on Kettlethorpe who I think moved to Lupo. He could sprint and run long distance. Long black hair always in a track suit. It must be 50 years ago.

| Not sure if it's the same bloke, I knew a lad in the early 80's called Martin Hampshire, lived in Normy, he just ran and ran everywhere he moved away somewhere and had a real big beard. He had an unusual way of running, he didn't seem to bend his ankles.
Might not be the same guy but you never know.

| The Jesus Jogger that you refer to was, I believe, originally from the top of Broadway area in Lupset and his name was Frank Cooper. He attended Snapethorpe school at the same time as myself. His favourite attire was black Jogging bottoms, "Coalite" T-shirt and white pumps. He wore these whatever the weather and time of year. You could regularly see him jogging along Barnsley Road. During his school years he was quite a good runner and rugby player. Don't know where he disappeared to.

We knew him as the shandy bass man.

We nicknamed him "Manson" a little unfair but he did look somewhat possessed.

If so, that's the best pre-season news I've heard so far. If you can't be the best, at least be the fittest. Goes a long way in our game.

Yeah and had it confirmed yesterday by a different guy, he says it's 6/4, breakfast/dinner are all taken together, he suggests it's a very strict regime compared with past coaches. Good to hear.

| I'd guess this is just the early phase of pre season, I'd assume it will ease off as the training goes on, no one can train to that extent for three months, can they?

Even they taper off the intensity of their training, also they perform then relax for weeks/months before entering another intense training regime. Rugby League players also taper off the intensity of their S&C work but will intensify the skills and technique programme.
They then enter a phase of maintenance throughout the season.

So, get them fit then put them on simmer for the rest of the time?

Exactly, that's the one!
Cannonball Hill is often the answer and the cause of many ills, I think if tested it would be shown to consist of about 30% vomit.

| Think that was the problem when Smith came in last year the 2015 season build up from a training/conditioning perspective was not up to scratch and you can't address that during the season.
Hopefully getting it right this time will make us much more competitive

i doubt that every member of the squad could keep up the intensity. Brian Smith is probably trying to find out the most "naturally" fittest players pre season, then according to ability the fittest players will form the initial likely team for the start of Super League. once you start playing regularly, barring injury, players will build up "match" fitness and the intensity of training may be lowered for the regular game time players. any squad players not playing regular games of rugby would probably have to keep up with more intense training during the season. playing regularly as well as giving 100% in training to me is one of the best ways of full match fitness if you can avoid injury, unfortunately not all the squad players will get regular game time. that's why good coaches succeed they tend to get the balance right,a good team spirit, fitness and work ethic and of course picking the right players for the job.
