| Wouldnt say we were mates, but I have met him on a few occasions and found him to be a decent lad. Very approachable and his knowledge of the game is second to none.
He got caught, he served his ban. Let he who without sin and all that!
As long as he got the job on merit then i dont see a problem with it.

I thought we gave him a chance when Wakefield plucked him out of the obscurity of the Shuddersfield make weights back in John Harbin's day. All he did was use Wakefield until it suited him. He's hit the buffers again and must have very few options so Wakefield will do nicely till he can get somewhere he really wants. Admittedley not quite worth refusing to renew our season tickets but very close!

I see your point about 'he without sin' but I haven't taken a banned drug so I'm putting myself lower down the sin list than him.
I know I'm being judemental and unfortgiving but I am very much against drugs in sport.
I guess my issue is that I don't get the "it was a pain killer prescribed on holiday".
Firstly, as a professional sportsman, unless you were given it while under
anaesthetic, then you should have checked it out.
Secondly, and I'd love it if someone could show me the evidence as I would completely back down but if you were caught with steroids in your ystem, wouldn't you blame it on a holiday pain killer rather than say yes I was cheating?
I'm usually the one saying we should wait and see but banned drugs are banned drugs for a reason as far as I am concerned.

There are far worse things in life than "banned drugs." I'm very much of the he's made a mistake, he's paid for it - he has a wealth of knowledge and experience playing at the highest level and I for one am pleased to see him return to pass this on to the youngsters at Wakey.
As for another posters comments about jumping ship - as you know it is only a short career, players must go where the money/trophies are as they are usually retired from the game at least 30 years before they hit true retirement age. With the greatest respect, rugby players aren't known for their towering intellects - so have to make the most of the career while they can.

| Quote ="PopTart"The difference between Ben and Ryan Hudson is that one made some mistakes in his personal life and one (it appears to me) tried to cheat at the sport.
I didn't like BC coming in. I thought it gave the club a bad image but he instantly proved me wrong with his attitude. As it was off field antics that casued the problem, his on field performance and attitude could change my mind.
Taking drugs in sport is not the same. It has been alledged that it was a pain killer he took on holiday and that may be the case but I don't like it and think there are better people for the job given that background.
His sister being really fit only partly makes up for the mistake
However, I don't run the club so we will have to see how it goes.'"
Personally think everyone should be given a second chance but I think it's a bit strange how you seem to make a distinction just because Cockayne's done well since he's come over here and looks a reformed character but ateotd he was caught on cctv kicking the hell out of someones head. Not sure why Hudson isn't given the same leeway seen as he's served his time and put back into the community and been a good pro since his return. Seems ABH is more forgivable than a doping offense, or am I wrong here?

| Hudson wasn't so much a drugs cheat but more naieve. At the time of it happening Hudson had returned from Australia where he'd been training during the off season and was told to take some supplements that all the nrl players had been taking. obviously it should have been his prerogative to check this out but instead he just took the advice he'd been given as gospel. (I believe it was Dane Dorahy who advised him) The bulls knew the testers were coming the day Hudson was tested and any player who had any doubts about passing the tests was told to go home for the day (a little like a former player of ours going to hospital at half time v Leeds away). Hudson didn't believe he had taken anything illegal and opted to stay, the rest as they say is history. Regardless of how it got in to his system he did the crime but he also spent the time so in my eyes he has been dealt with accordingly. He has had a decent career after his ban and has not reoffended. He can use his experiences both good and bad in helping to make young people make the right choices in their lives, yes the 'goody two shoes' like sinfield et al are perfect role models who kids should look up to but the likes of Hudson can also pass on information and experiences of being on the wrong side of the governing bodies and again help out kids on the right track. Life is all about choices, Hudson made a bad one but to prohibit him from teaching kids because of one misdemeanour is quite frankly absurd!

Clearly both are wrong. I didn't want Cockayne either but what he did was nothing to do with sport. The legal system handled his case and although I didn't like what he did I only judge him on what has now done at Wakefield.
What Hudson did is cheating in sport and although not as bad in real terms, I don't like someone who cheats both his mates and his opponents. He tried to give himself an unfair advantage.
If he becomes part of the club I'll support him the same as anyone else, I just don't think it is a decision I would make.

| We've had these conversations before and in the not too distant past about so called poor signings, either players or coaching staff and the doubters have been proved wrong, let's try for once and see if it pans out and maybe give praise where praise is due.Myself and other parents who's child is lucky enough to be on the Wakey scholarship may be involved with Ryan at some point and I for one will support him in his effort and his knowledge to hopefully make the future stars of Wakey better players.

| The moral compass of the supporters of this club can be very odd at times. Some are pilloried for life, some are treated as heroes.
Met Hudson a few times, nice bloke, met far worse than him. No problem with him being on the staff. Has every member of non-playing staff at the club in the past 10 years been squeaky clean? I very much doubt it.

Because they don't think he's good enough. You can be sure if a vacancy did arrive he'd jump ship just as quickly and as clandestine as last time we gave him a chance. He's hoping that Wakefield Trinity will, once again, be his vehicle out of obscurity.
The drugs issue should be enough to say stay clear even without his past dealings with the club.

| He's successful enough outside of the game, to not really require us to drag him from obscurity! He would not be coaching the young lads cos he needs the extra bit of cash that is for sure.
Like i say, aslong as he was/is the best candidate and he hasnt got the job (if it is confirmed) on the back of him been mates with some of the management then i have no problem with it.
