I can understand TRB's point of view as I often fel the same way but the fact is we have the smallest wage bill in SL and until we are able to spend the full cap we are'nt going to challenge for honours - fact.
The question is how do we increase our income in order to compete. I don't have all the answers but I have mentioned on a previous thread offering incentives to attract people to buy shares is one. There must be other ways and I have also mentioned previously about bringing in someone like Peter Deakin (who sadly is no longer with us) who transformed Bradford and Warrington. You have to speculaute to accumulate - the Club seem to me to think that people should just turn up to support the Club - you have to do something that makes them want to come.'"
That is one of the things that is beginning to bother me more and more as each day / week / season progresses. I used a slightly cruder phrase a couple of weeks ago to both Ted & Eric when I suggested that we need a professional gob-e - but the gist is the same. We need a voice and a character who's role is it to rally the folk of Wakefield around. There is no magic in this - apart from genuine charisma - just a load of focussed, on-message, hard work. Yes, it will cost money, but, IMO, it will generate a return and that takes up your turnover and increases your gate - both vitally needed if we are to stay in SL.
Shares / Tickets etc will not just sell themselves, they need to be presented in a fashion which 'sells' them!
Sometimes I really hate being a Trin fan - even though I know I can't doing about it - or is it because.....

| Game was lost in the first 20 ins of the second half when we gave them a couple of fairly soft tries. In trying to chase the game our inability to create anything, particularly on the last tackle, near the opposition line was very evident.
I thought the forwards did ok today but there was no creative spark.

That's about right - reasonable amount of grunt, no flair at all. When did we last see a decent cut out pass from Wakey??? It's not rocket-science - which is just as well really!

If we have the smallest wage bill then we need to look at where some of the other clubs generate income, this is due to the fact that there are other clubs that get smaller gates than we do yet still seem to attract players that do a better job for them. Quins are one.

| TRB is spot on - I posted similar after the Wigan cup match.
We seem to lack;
* the passion and the team spirit we had at the start of the season,
* go forward (I don't think a forward has bust the defensive line once
in the last two games - it certainly didn't happen today).
* ideas - we can be in the opponents 22m for hours and more often than
not we'll come away empty handed,
* any kind of game plan other than up your jumper, one man runs for
five tackles (if we hold the ball that long) and a crap kick
* tactical nous - agree with TRB about the two pointer in front of the
sticks, kicking game is poor and why didn't we have a single 40/20
attempt?
Another worrying aspect of our play is that we seem to fold in the second half. I've just looked at our 13 league results and only in 4 of them did we outscore the other team in the second half (Hull, Cas, Catalans and Wire). We even managed to be beaten in the second half by Bradford and Wigan when we won!! Is it because we're unfit? JK's half time talk? Can't be d?
Sandal Cat talks about the quality of our players and the need to raise more money to buy better but the players we've got [ucan[/u play well - they did, mostly, in the first half today. I don't know the reasons but we need our coach to earn his money and start to get some consistency in to the performances (and I don't mean that we lose every week!!)

| Highlight of the day today was Richard Moore's try apart from that not a lot jumps out. We didn't turn up for the second half until 20 minutes had gone.

| must admit i was very frustrated for large spells of the second half today, we seem to have a complete inability to use runners and angles to create gaps. tony martin has filled in at 6/7 and fair play to him but he offers very little in the opposition 20 and his kicks are woeful at times. the question should be asked though why is he taking so many when we have brough? that said some of brough's weren't the best and we wait an hour for a bomb in wind of that strength and swirl which immediately reaps rewards!
thought the pack were ok and didn't get bullied as they have done recently, thought scully and snitch especially were pretty effective. they did a reasonable job and were let down by the backs and halves if anything.
yet despite being so turd in an attacking sense we were still in a position where we could of gotten something from the game when blaymire inexplicably didn't cross for a try and then messed up the bloody play the ball, although if he was carrying an injury i'll forgive him.
the effort was there imo and whilst it remains i believe we can turn it round, just lacking confidence at the moment which isn't helping.

| Scoreline could have been allot worse but for a couple of try saving boots in the first half. Saw JK walking in front of the stand 25mins after the game finished. He nodded and said aright I said "no i'm pi**ed off" that sums up the day really.

With the wind as strong as it was I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was confident that we'd continue our domination in the second half and put the game to bed.
I don't know who said what at half time but the boys just didn't turn up until it was far too late in the second half.
Quins tactical kicking was excellent and IMHO Blaymire continually positioned himself too close to the touchline before the ball was kicked and we came extremely close to paying the price for that on more than one occasion - we shouldn't need last ditch dives to put the ball dead for a drop out when the ball is kicked from 40m out!
I know the team has had an awful time mentally over the last 8/9 months, but I'm struggling to see any pride & passion for their own game never mind the pride they supposedly want to show for Adam & Leon (and Toppo & Fox).

We can't really comment on something we weren't able to see thanks to the Quins "PR/Franchise spin" of filling the Etihad stand with your own fans so the ground looks full for the cameras & sticking us behind the posts!!!

| Just got back after a long train ride, London village is quaint
I wonder if this is classed as a slump yet?
I like Atkins, I really do but he is big enough to do what Ellis did and should be breaking through more than he does. Nice to see Bibey back, get him and Moore running hard should make a difference...'should' and fingers crossed Stoic will show the talent he did in the Aussie code.
Good to see Rooney back too, he hasn't lost his sidestep which is good.

Precisely. One man, up the jumper, up the middle stuff. Very boring and very ineffective. We have the players to play good, exciting, winning rugby but it's not happening. JK needs to sort it - preferably before Sunday.

Put it this way, they are not exactly squashed in when they travel away from home.
I am less heartened now that I have seen the responses from people who were there. Our seasons recently have been a good early start, and then a long slump at aroud this time. Maybe motivation can only get you so far, and once the other sides start to get their momentum, we tail off. Tortoise and the hare and all that, except that we are maybe just a slightly quicker tortoise at the start.
I can't comment on the tactics as I wasn't there, but McDermott has said that he didn't want an arm wrestle. Perhaps JK tried to give him one, and it may have paid off had we held onto the ball.
We have got the chance to back on track in the next few weeks. Hudds are in a slump as well, and Celtics are still beatable, and Bradford away is winnable by everyone now.

The frustrating part of it is that as poorly as we played we not only could have won we should have won. I dont normally go for ifs and buts, but cant help thinking had Drew played yesterday, somebody with ideas' and a bit of trickery we would have beaten a poor on the day Quins' side who only prospered on our mistakes' and a generous Referee who imo had a poor game allround. We matched them in the first half against a very strong wind and went to sleep for the first 20 mins. of the second and by the time we came alive it was too late. Why Brough did not take 2pts. when he had the opportunity to make it a 5 point margin plus the ball back from the kick only he knows because we were 7pts. adrift and still needed another score and I doubt we would have got a better chance. Anyway its history now onwards and upwards. The one positive I took from the match is that we got home safe and sound
