| I quite like the idea Child was trying to promote, because it was a very quick game, and we seemed to learn for a while before slipping back. If they maintain it, we could see some good rugby this year (provided you are a fan of scoots from dummy half). The main problem was that Child seemed to think that anything that goes wrong at the tackle is the fault of the tackler, and the wilier ones will soon start flopping and diving to the floor like a footballer (Sam Tomkins and Danny Maguire come straight to mind).
Ganson bothered me more. The Cas winger was clearly off-side, but thankfully he bounced it, and there was a tackler still holding onto the Cas player (have no interest in remembering his name) when the ball-carrying arm hit the ground.
Tommy Lee's pass cost us the game though, and there were many stroll-ins out wide. Good effort though, and that is what I want.

I'd agree with most of that, although I thought it was Millard's stupidity that cost us the game. At that point, we'd had a really good period of play and Cas were clearly rattled - his lazy hand on the ball took away all the momentum and gave them field position and a one man advantage - it went downhill from there.

| having watched it again my view is we didnt learn early enough about how the game was being played and then adapted, cas did in the second half.
the enthusiasm was good, but that could have been a natural reaction to ther previous 24 hours, the quality however in key areas was poor.
Substitutions and the bench were baffling.
and as other have said we cannot play a sliding defence, especially against a half back with pace who runs across the line, there may be a point that we dont have a great tackler in the team either, again if we do we dont have one with pace. may be being harsh ion GM re the tackling.
but we have a team........can see it being a slog though

I don't disagree with you. The way I see it though is that Millard stopped us from chasing the game as we had been doing, whereas Tommy Lee's pass made us chase it in the first place.
Millard was shaking his head in bemusement when he came off, but if you asked him, "why did you put your hand on the ball?", the only answer he could honestly give would be, "to slow the man down."
As long as they are consistent and carry it on through the season. Let's see how they get on with the Rhino's, because they are the worst for it.

We already know they're not going to be consistent - if Mr Silverwood had taken the same approach as Mr Childs, the Saints/Wigan game would have been farcically disjointed.

| Why was every other game reffed differently though? That was a blatent double movement the rules state soon as a finger is laid on the opponent then the tackle is complete on the floor. Really strange. Wigan and St Helens was reffed totally different . No consistency. 37 pens in a non dirty game really glad i didnt pay to watch that. PAthetic . Our lads did really well. If wigan was reffed the same then that would have been 60 penalties no consistency.

If teams know they are going to get penalised for not getting out of the way, they should learn to stop doing it. It should be within the capacity of coaches to get them to do that. We all moan when teams slow down our play the ball against us, it is just that they are being extra strict about it now. If teams dont do it, then the game IS faster, and more fun to watch. Look how fast some of the NRL sides ptb, it is miles faster than our game.

Other games are reffed 'differently' because they have different refs, they see things differently, they focus their view of the game slightly differently. I think if Child reffed the same game again or watched it again on tape, he would have looked differently at some things, for and against both teams - it is one mans view at the time.
Soon as a finger is laid on? This isn't touch rugby! The ball carrying arm has to be down and to have been stopped moving forwards, the ref didnt think that he had been stopped moving forwards. Until he calls held or shouts the tackle count, then the player is entitled to play on. That is what Ganson would have listened out for, the refs call and whether he felt the player had been stopped, whether the tacklers had fallen off the man, etc..
Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a double movement when I watched it, but refereeing is about opinions and views. Theirs count, mine doesn't!
As for the Saints Wigan game having less pens, their players both 'respected the ruck', they cleared the tackle a lot quicker than both Cas and Wakey. Which is quite often the way Aussie/NZ coaches like it to be. Certainly after watching the previous match, they would have learned that the effects of lying on, is penalties and sin binnings.

| Hi everyone on this forum, been a long time viewer of this forum, and a life long fan of wakefield, and no im not ted richardson before you think about convienent timing of me joining. just got back from Cardiff, and thinking wakefield were going to get pummeled, we did well, and yes the ref was terrible, in fairness to both sides, double movements like that where you'd put your house on it, get tries, words will be said at whitehall. hopefully

So you're expecting it to go all the way to the top then?
"Would the right Hon gentleman join me in sending a clear message to Mr Childs? The man was clearly held and therefore, a double movement is the only conclusion one can draw"
"I would concur with my Rt Hon friend; Wakey were clearly robbed"

| Reflecting on yesterdays game after feeling quite depressed with both the score and performance i dont think it is too bad and with a couple of signings we could be quite competitive. On the other hand if i were a cas fan even though they won by 20 points they had alot more possession and field position due to penalties also best player on pitch in rangi chase and still couldnt kill game off.Although they may be saying they will now win grand final if they lose Chase or play a team on form they may struggle,Hudds will be a good test.Lets hope wakey sort themselves out before its too late.

Firstly I would like to congratulate Wakfield on a spirited display, and if you show the same bottle every week, then all the fans can be happy.
Cas are not going to win Super League (we all know that), but I can not believe that realistic judgements can be made on the 1st weekend of fixtures. Put it this way, there are teams with higher expectations that ours and have been tipped to finish higher than us, who didn't fair much better (Warrington, Hull, Salford spring to mind). Some of your fans make reference to a young and in experiend side compared to ours, but I am sorry that this is simply a blinkered view. Many cas fans were surprised with the selection of the pack, and after Hudson left the field early, we had a pack containing Huby, Milner, Holmes, Emmitt, Walker (who are with the exception of Huby are either 20 or below), plus a 19 year old centre in Arundel making a pretty young side. We have 4 players missing from that side who would normally get into the 17 (Fozzard, Owen, Isa, McGoldrick). I am not saying the score would have been different it's the fact that fans jump onto failings of other sides, rather than how well their own team did. I wasn't happy with performance, but we did what we had to do and that's certainly not disrespectful to Wakefield.

How many games has Fozzard and Isa played for you, it must be quite a few by now, Owen has had a broken leg for years, and Goldy wasnt selected because he was deemed not good enough, your only supposed to make excuses when you lose Yawn, but you are right your not going to win super league.

I think you just love it and IMHO it's this conspiracy nonsense that that makes the club unpopular and actually harms us - have you thought about that? Now is the time to be positive and pull together behind the new guy rather than scuttle everything he does like some fifth columnist.
All you achieve IMHO is give them the rope they need to hang us. With your mentality IMHO we are out for sure, thankfully it's down to those of a more positive nature to at least try or would you prefer to wave the white flag now and be done with it. It's really hard to know exactly what you want to be honest and I don't think anyone running the club will ever be good enough. Still that's just what I think.
You're not cynical IMO, their is some logic and rationale to being a cynic. You are just a plain moaner IMO, sorry to burst your bubble but you're a million miles from being the forums answer to Jeremy Clarkson.

You try to make a serious post and look what you get. Fozzard (groin strain in warm up), Isa (lack of practise due to late arrival) and Owen will come back into the side when fit...simples. McGoldrick had a knee injury and wasn't in the 19 to start with.......simples
Facts aren't one of your strong points are they???????????????
