I imagine there will of been no loss financially because the students that did renew paid 4 1/2 x what they paid the season before so if just 20% renewed which I am guessing will have done, there wont be much of a difference.
But lets look at it this way - Imagine if the Student tickets were was upped to maybe £120 rather than full price, do you think as many would have not renewed? Or do you think that maybe there would of been a higher rate of renewals?
In that case there would be more season tickets sold (More or less same income on sales revenue) - More bodies in the ground, better atmosphere & more potential for sales on match day, obviously creating more revenue for the club.
It just didn't make sense to completely drop the student prices, yes, put it up by all means but full price?
I will say it again we are the only club that I know of in RL (Not just SL) to not have student priced tickets.
Near enough every establishment these days have student prices or student discount why? Because without it they would lose a large chunk of business.

| I have stated before on here that I have been told that the number of student season ticket holders was not a significant number according to the club so I am not sure doing away with it has lost that many fans - the potential to attract a new generation of fans possibly but again young adults tend to want to watch a winning side unless they are already hooked having attended as a kid

If this is true, then it must have been under James Websters era.So now we've got Brian Smith, some new signings and being a lot more competitive in games, why don't they give it another chance. The stadium thing I can't argue with, but I go to watch the game, close up,not the decor. Can't possibly think of any excuse or reason to stop watching Trin, apart from dropping dead obviously.

It took McNally and Kear years to take us up to a (real not Glover) average of about 5,000 fans - it's taken this set of clowns a season maybe 2 to lose them. I think Smith appearance has given fresh hope but you won't turn this nightmare of this season - and be honest it's been atrocious - in 5 games. You offer people that level of crap it's almost impossible to get them back, even a winning streak won't work. We have pretty much done what we didi in the mid 1980's and lost a generation of fans.'"

I have probably been watching the team longer than you but when I stop going (if I ever do) that will be it, no going back.
I spoke to these people many times and they were just so deflated and demoralised they had had enough, maybe they will return.
However don't kid yourself, Locke apart. Anyone who knows anything about RL is not going to let the likes of Howarth, Arundel or Tansey tempt them back.
These were 5 good solid long time supporters who had just had enough, you can't build crowds when you are loosing supporters as fast as you attract and establish new ones.

The difference for the likes of Wigan and Saints is that a bad season is a blip and they know it. Our fans have been ground down through stadium let-downs and financial failures, lurching from one crisis to another. There comes a point when people have had enough. We have to remember that this is about watching rugby league and this year even that fell to new levels.
A good middle-8's with a new coach and things might turn a bit of a corner, but people need something to attach some hope to, which is what they did when Glover was here. It's just that no one knew it was fluff.

All I'm saying is that a new coach may make them have another go and if they have a season ticket already,as you say they have, then it won't cost them owt.

Maybe they will, who knows. However the point I am trying to make is that when you have a product which you can't even give away for free as in the case of these 5. How the hell do you expect to sell it to the wider public.

All that is true, of course, perhaps I expect too much but my main concern is that even Michael Carter, who has worked wanders, is going to struggle to make ends meet on meagre, embarrassing gates of 3K

| As I've alluded to before on this forum, there is a general in-built apathy towards spectator sport in this city. Just ask the former supporters of Wakefield RU, Wakefield AFC & Wakefield Cricket Club. That apathy spreads elsewhere in the city, which explains the exceptional high rate of empty commercial and retail premises and the remains of what was once a market and town centre to be proud of.

| Even when this club do relatively well (2004 and the Catalans play off in 2009) the numbers still don't come. The bottom line is price. It was a backward decision to remove the student and young persons season ticket but am I right in thinking these were being abused by would be adult payers?
When it's cheap people will bother when they have to pay a fair price they would rather go to Asda or B&Q on a Sunday.
One thing which doesn't help is the complete lack of exposure the club has in the city. If you didn't already know you would even realise Wakefield Trinity existed.

There may be apathy towards Wakefield Trinity at the moment and yes, there are a number of extinct sporting organisations in the city BUT, there is no link between this and the number of empty commercial premises in the city.
Ironically (with Wakefields current difficulty in securing a new home), this is due to mickey poor town planning.
Half the world is buying their stuff on the internet but, town planners keep on trying to open new shopping centres to encourage shopper's and then wonder why the city centres are like ghost towns and Wakefield is a "good" example of this.
The warehousing and manufacture of goods for sale is a whole different issue although Wakefields geographical location together with its proximity to the motorway and rail network, make it an ideal location for distribution across the north of the country and those people responsible, have a much easier "sell" than many other areas.
Back on the sporting front, times have changed dramatically and with the exception of Premiership football and top end Rugby Union, plus major events, most people are happy to stay at home or watch in the pub.
RL has to work damn hard for its spectators and Wakefield haven't done enough to look after the new fans found during the Glover era, although, 2 years of dire performances on the field of play certainly haven't helped.
I wouldn't suggest going back to the £80 season ticket but IF we want 6000+ plus spectators at home matches there needs to be a re think on "selling" the club to the public.
People wont come just because we are here.

Yeah, ironically the name Wakefield Trinity is probably known more and is more famous outside the city than in it!

| A lot of people are struggling financially and attending a game is a good proportion of their income. Making season tickets more expensive has ruled some out of renewing them.

Another obstacle is that a large, and ever growing, % of Wakefields population is not even English never mind from Wakefield.
And they have zero interest in anything to do with the city they ended up living in.

| The days of loyalty In sport has long gone. We are now in a world of success sells and people have many ways to spend the leisure pound than watching a team get beaten every week by 30 + points. The majority on the forum are let's face it not normal and will follow the club regardless of the cost but sadly you are now only a small minority compared with the population of the city.
We are expecting people to turn up pay £22 to see a team who they have read have one only three games all season and had a coach who admitted we were only interested in the play offs. When they get to the ground they are searched for open plastic bottles then they are told where to stand. It is not what you call a pleasant experience and one visit would probably be enough without having to watch the performance on the field prior to our change of coach.
I have a season ticket but I have chosen to miss games this season and I know many others who have too.
I have just read the last post which I will say does nothing but demean the forum. The percentage of residents from outside the UK in Wakefield will probably not exceed 10%. They are not responsible for the state of our club our club is responsible. I suppose when you have nothing to say blame someone else but I never thought the forum would stoop so low.

Because it's poor business management.
Don't offer someone something for a certain price then put the price up and expect the same people to just accept it. Raising people's expectations and then disappointing them is not sensible. You may or may not agree with what I'm saying (not whining) but clearly something has affected attendances and I'm pretty sure this issue (and student STs, poor stadium facilities, rubbish on field performances, poor club/supporter relations etc) is part of the reason.

But what is your justification for allowing somebody in full time employment a discount just because he's 60? Why not 58 or 55?
Why not discount everybody? We've tried that though have n't we.

| Wakefield Trinity in a decent stadium with a competitive team will have no problem with attendances. The stadium issue needs sorting ASAP as its had a massive effect on our support. Getting hammered every week in a stupid league structure hasn't helped, I've got a season ticket but missed quite a few matches this season Im just waiting for the Middle 8 to start. Our attendances have also been hit this season with matches against clubs who usually bring a big away support Wigan, Saints, Hull all sky matches. To say the stadium issues we have, getting hammered every match and not winning anything for 60 years we get better support than most clubs would in our position. Saying that we've now got a good coach if we survive middle 8s get stadium situation sorted then our future is good.
TRINITY FOREVER
