| Quote ="acko"It's seems the consensus from most of us is the attacking play is dreadful, Flat lines and poor passing play are making us so easy to defend against.
Not quite sure why everybody blaming miller for most of the poor play i must be watching a different game then, Lack of any angle runs or combinations set plays have dried up we should be doing so much better with the players at our disposal it's criminal.
And we bring in Morgan escare and put him on the wing were he looked bored shztless until he got the ball he was the only one i thought that showed a bit of class looking dangerous looking for gaps or someone to run into one, If chester doesn't want to play Max's at fb then put rocky at fb and m escare in the halves we would have great pace in the halves and a possible a very good combo with rocky in support of escare.
Unfortunately it's not working with Danny brough he's getting targeted all the time a bit like pauli pauli so things need to change now because we are running out of games to put it right.'"
My thoughts too.

| I was there yesterday supporting Hull FC. Of course we know Miller and Brough well. Brough for a short while was a cup winning influence for us. Miller much later, was the great hope who was just too young for SL when we had him.
I'm aware that on this thread Miller is getting a lot of stick. But yesterday he was the half who I saw as the main threat from you. But a 6 sometimes needs runners off him and that doesn't seem to be happening with Trin. If it did then it would keep opposing defences honest because they're covering all the options a lively 6 has.
The lack of runners means that we just had to snag Miller and the threat is nulled. It makes him look a worse player because we don't have to worry about the non-existent decoy runners. Just scrag Miller.
It wasnt so long ago Miller was an outstanding player for Trin with Finn at 7 the perfect foil for him. Miller looked very good and Trinity were playing some great stuff. He had many plaudits and he is the same player today really, but something around him has changed.
Danny Brough has been a great player, but the clock has ticked on and he just isn't great anymore, far from it in fact. Its hard for him I guess because he's been a Captain and organiser but these days all of his skills and threats are much less than they were.
Yesterday he didn't register for me as any kind of threat concern and I wasn't even sure he was really switched on. De-motivated so to speak.
If Danny had been released at the end of last season he wouldn't have got a gig with any other Super League club, but you gave him another run and your paying the price now. Just a gamble gone wrong, it happens.
In Miller you have a player, you've all seen it. On occasions he was winning some games on his own.
Its not an age thing with Milky, its organisational and its playing with the right partner. I thought Brough could be a perfect replacement for Finn, but he's not. He still wants to be the game breaker but he's not got it now. Infact he's nowhere near being that player these days.
In the Championship maybe he could be.
I think you all know what the negative catalyst is.

| Well that was awful; despite Hull doing their level best to gift us an unassailable lead in the first half (how many knock-ons/handling errors?!) we just refused to capitalise. We used the same tired move near the line every time, with Kopczak running an entirely predictable line, and when that didn't work, we reverted to a Brough kick to nowt, which yielded nothing. Miller seems intent on booking Tanganoa a berth at Pinderfields with that ridiculous short pass, and when your toughest, most hardworking forward is a terminally crocked Danny Kirmond, you know you're in bother.
For me, Brough needs to sit down for the rest of the season, and we go with a spine of Escare at FB, Miller and Hampshire at 6 and 7 and Kershaw on one wing - at least that way, we have pace; I'm not entirely sure what we're expecting Atkins to bring, but Toups doesn't look fit, so maybe that's a straight swap; and Big Dave should be thanked, but sat down - it's not fair to wheel him out when he's very obviously on one leg, trying to win the game on his own.
All in all, I wish I'd stayed at home and nursed my hangover, which I suspect is what PP was doing, judging by the state he was in on Saturday night.

Tupou still offered/offers more than Lyne. The rest I think all, bar Chris Chester, would agree with.

| Hull in peace.
For me Wakey suffered up front, Big Dave was not at his best and was passing the ball rather than running, leaving Pauli out, who has caused us problems every time he plays suited us. So the halves get the usual bashing.

Unfortunately Pauli seems to have burned his bridges with us. We just haven't seen the form and effort from him that's required, Big Dave is playing on a fractured foot and it shows.

I know, and it’s commendable, but it lessens his impact, consequently your halves don’t have the go forward they need.

| Its fine to suggest Tupou & Lyne haven't hit the form of the last 2 years but this all comes down to the forwards laying the platform and the halves creating space on the edges by having forwards running lines to draw the defenders in hence giving the likes of Tupou and Lyne space to attack. There's only Ashurst who actually runs against the grain and its clear to see we miss him more than some realise.
Miller and Brough are running laterally across the line and by the time hampshire / lyne / tupou have ball in hand the defence has simply slid across.
Brough is also too dominant and everything needs to go through him, his distribution is poor and he passes too early. It's no coincidence Miller was top of the assists chart last year and now he's having possibly his worst season in a trinity shirt.
Has Chester got balls to drop Brough? I dont thinks so.

| Quote ="Jizzer"Hull slowed the play down alot but we're simply not good enough. At the moment we offer nothing going forward (unless Daves on the field), too many balls taken from stand still and nobody looking to support half the time. Neither Brough or Miller delivering the goods at the mo, so for me it'd be going back to Miller & Hamsphire in the halves and put Escare at full back. Still lacking intent and aggression in defense bar one or two players.'"
Not sure on your basis for this, but the ruck was a joke when Wakefield were defending.
As has been pointed out, Hulls handling in the opening 20 mins was poor but a couple of the knock on's given were simply not knock ons (Minichello plays the ball correctly, wakey player in the ruck doesn't get away or make any effort to move, gets in Houghtons ways, houghton never actually gets to the ball which is now on the prone wakey player still in the ruck. Refs Decision, Knock on by Hull!!!).
Also, the officials policing of keeping the defense back 10 metres for both sides prevented much expansive play.
Overall, it was not one for the purists.

The infringement was by Minichello stepping forward off the mark. The rule brought in part way through the season was that if a tackling player was in the way then the player about to play the ball should take a step back to play the ball, not in front. You could clearly see the ref explain this to Mini and Houghton when the offence occurred.

If that were the case, it would have been a penalty and not a scrum with wakey feed.
Minichello stood up and played the ball. If he had stepped backwards he would have been on top of the wakey player not making any attempted to get out of the way.

Seen a few saying this and earlier in the season i agreed. Now however i don't, i don't think he is offering anything at the minute. Most sets he won't even touch the ball until the 5th tackle.

His distribution is terrible, Miller was constantly reaching above his head / down at his toes which completely kills the attacking threat.
Finn was the slowest half back to ever play the sport but his ability to attack the line and provide an accurate pass to Miller / Grix was second to none.

And, as stated a few posts back, if he stepped off the mark, that would be a penalty rather then given as a knock on with wakeys feed.
The referee just got it wrong.

But that policing of the 10 really hurt us.
It stunted our attack when we had ball on your line.
You could easily have had 3 different players in the bin because of holding down when we got a break away. The penalty didn't help because you could regroup and get back on side.

The referee signaled a knock on and gave a scrum. Nothing to do with stepping off the mark.

Likewise, had it not been such a skinny 10, Connor, Tuimevave and Naulago would have had a field day.

| Why did the ref say a scrum to Hull when he had waved play on and 5 passes later a Hull player dropped the ball and the Wakey player looked to be going in to the clear, though the advantage rule had gone.

The ball had originally been tipped by a wakey player. It was a free play. The ref had wiped the tackle count clean to Hull were playing hot potato with it. The final knock on by Hull was irrelevant as it went back to the first offence.

Fair play, I'd missed that.
This is what I have dug up on the rule changes
[iMeanwhile, the removal of the ‘free play’ comes after the overuse of the kick ahead into no man’s land and the subsequent breaks in play which have come about on the back of the rule coming in. Referees will instead have back the discretion to decide when a team’s advantage period is over.[/i
This suggest to me that providing you dont kick the ball on what used to be a free play or you make minimal yards, the ref could still award you the advantage.
