| i am not a fan of kears and never have been. i knew i had a grudge about him from his time at sheffield, and it came flooding back when reading another thread!!
however, the last three years has probably been the most "eventful" successive years that ANY club in the history of RL has encountered, and for that reason alone i think kear should be allowed to remain at the club to see out his contract.

| some good posts. on balance if he wants to stay then let him. like i said, he's a hero for all time as far as i'm concerned. as important a figure in the club's history as any other.

I just don't want to see all the hard work that has gone into bringing crowds in undone by such poor performances as we have recently seen. I am talking about effort more than results as to be honest we couldn't realistically expect to beat Saints, Wigan and Warrington, but we could have at least tried to make it a bit more difficult for them.
I'm happy for him to stay to the end of the season IF the players are willing to work for him until then and IF he realises that playing those players that have sorted futures elsewhere is of no benefit to us. The only problem is judging by the last few weeks that doesn't seem to be happening.

| He's in an awkward situation, future employers don't want to see him quit or sacked and they don't want to see his side lose by 50-60 each week. I wish he'd leave but I can't see it, he still has that blind optimism that has served him well in the past in big games.

Why do we owe it to him?
Let's not forget we are talking about the same man who a couple of weeks before the franchise announcement went on public record stating he was interested in the Cas job, then when he finds out that we are safe goes on record again saying how much he loves being at Wakefield and wants a new contract. Yes he has gone through a lot in his tenure at Belle Vue, but that doesn't automatically give him a free pass. He said that we would be a better side in round 27 what a load of ballcocks.

If the halfbacks are smith/Lee AGAIN. Then it's seems kear has well and truly lost the plot. Doesn't he ever look at the points for and against stats ? %100 unacceptable !!

If there were to be any truth in this, then I would expect Elston & Glover to relieve him of his duties straight away as he has either lost the plot or is doing his best to make sure his beloved Cas win and remain in the 8. If Moore is fit he shud be playing same with Davey and Tongia shud be at full back which means there is no place for Veivers.

Fit and raring to go scored in reseves lastweek and played well by all accounts, Smith and Lee have being abysmal the last couple of games ? Thought he would add some enthusiasm and creative spark we are massively lacking as well as a good kicking game, but Kear see's it differrently it appear's ??

| Smith/Lee by far the worst combo in SL. There's much better halves playing in the championship.

| Moore played in reserves so would hope to see him feature.
Hope we see trout ( played well in reserves).
Maybe Annekin will get a shot at lf? With morro dropping to SR?
Any coach would ring changes in pivotal positions after the thumpings we've had! And I hope Kear does. I want him to win 2 of 3 and go out with his head held high.

But how well did he play in the reserves? - Moore that is. I don't know, what if he was less than average, would you still be in favour of playing him? Didn't one of the Wire fans praise Hickey, should he play on Saturday, after all he is here next season.
I'm still not in favour of 'chucking' all the kids in at once, that in my opinion could do more damage than good for the individuals.

Fair point PHe''
But surely we can't be any worse than the last couple of weeks in the SH position ? This weeks game against Cas is crying out for some creativity and a good kicking game followed with some much needed enthusiasm which we haven't had in ages. The two games iv'e seen Moore play were against Hudds and Hull fc both at home and thought he added something in both games, and after all he he is here next season too''.

3 points here:
1) Of course the man would be interested in the Cas job, he's got a family to provide for and wasn't sure of his future. Any man worth his salt would have done the same.
2) I don't remember him requesting a new contract, in fact I seem to remember him saying that his approach to coaching is that it is done in 5yr cycles, so he would be looking to move on anyway.
3) Ok he's made an error and some baffling selections of late, but for me his good work has far, far outweighed any errors that he is currently making, and to get rid of him early would be an insult to a man who has made a silk purse out of a pigs ear for the last 4 years prior to this season.
Like another poster has said, some people have short memories.

| While JK achieved a fantastic amount on limited resources in his first 3 years, the last 2 have been stale to say the very least. In many ways he deserves the opportunity to go out "with his head held high" but I think there's two main reasons why he can't.
Firstly, he's made himself look foolish in relation to his contract. Forget whether he was or wasn't going to Catalans, he (IMO understandably) wanted to negotiate a new contract when we got the good news about the SL licence, but when AG & JE told him that he wouldn't get one he allowed a statement to be issued saying that "it has always been my belief that coaches in SL have a five year lifespan at an one club". If that was really what he believed then he shouldn't have asked for a new contract.
Secondly, it's blatantly obvious that he's lost the dressing room. While the first half against Crusaders wasn't exactly the highlight of the SL season, there was certainly enough coming out of the first half that a coach who had the respect of his players should have been able to get a far better performance out of them in the second half than what we actually saw.
The sensible thing for AG & JE to do (& I think they should have done it at least 3 weeks ago) is to ask JK to tend to his garden for the rest of the year and ask Tony Drury to step up for the rest of the season.
I've already resigned myself to the fact that this won't happen and that JK will expect a lap of "honour" after the Bradford game. If he hadn't held on in vain for so long I would say he probably deserved it at his last match - just that it should already have happened. I won't be at BV for the last match (it's a bit tricky to get from the office in London to BV on a Friday night) but IMO the only thing JK would deserve applause for is going straight from his box to the chaining rooms after the final hooter & never show his face on the BV pitch again while wearing a WT badge on his shirt.
Thanks for the good times John, but you've left them much too far behind.

Whilst I am all for Kear seeing out the season and will forever be thankful for what he has done for our club I don't think that publicly declaring his interest in the cas job, the week before the franchise decison was made, came across very well.

How can any SL experience be damaging, what's damaging is the eager younger players watching the so called established players getting a tonking every week, with no sniff of 1st team action.

1. That is very true but his timing sucked and can the same be said when he was close to joining Catalan, or when he applied for the Bradford job.
2. Quote Wakefield's escape from the Super League axe has left John Kear keen to extend his contract as coach. "I'd like to stay," he said. "It's a great club and now has the opportunity to progress."'" www.independent.co.uk/sport/gene ... 26993.html
3. For you his good work might outweigh the current situation, but he has never beaten a super league club in the challenge cup. Last year it is true that he couldn't legislate for the Brough, Tronc and Newton episodes, but he did put all his eggs in one basket.
