| I'm not against it but I don't see it.
The difficulty is finding out without throwing him in to a super league game. That would be wrong to me. Needs to be a lot of time spent in training.
Saying that you'd think Chester would know if it as an option.

I'm not so sure.
Most attacking full backs are heavily involved in making the extra man/ providing the link on any plays to get the ball wide and therefore they tend to be familiar with the set up and the calls.
Max went very well on Sunday and he may be able to cover SO but, IMO, it would be more likely that we would move Grix into SO and put Jowitt at FB

I agree its something to consider as an option maybe in a season or so.

| He does chuck an impressive pinpoint pass - but so do lots of FB's these days; it's de rigeur for the FB to join the line in attack and work as an extra pivot - so it's a good part of his skillset for his current position, if not necessarily an indicator that he would go better in a different one.
He's still got some work to do on high balls though - had a great game on Sunday, but fluffed a couple of those, and never quite looks convincing when he goes up for them.

I thought last season he was pretty faultless under the high ball. It was one area that worried me regarding Grix replacing him. I put the couple he miss judged on Saturday down to lack of big match practice.

| I agree. Last season he was a lot of the reason we did well as he returned high balls with interest when previous fullbacks have been all over the place.

| How many SO's have gone to FB? So why not the other way round?
As for not being able to give Max a chance in a SL game, why not?
We're not struggling as a team and if the pack is on the front foot, it should make his job easier.

| Deja Vu all over again !!!
I've already expressed my opinion on this
But I think Jowitt will make an outstanding 'old fashioned' stand off ... soft hands ... runs good lines... elusive and in predictable
And... from what I've seen of his videos at Dewsbury ... Luke Hooley looks an outstanding full back prospect!

| I agree with Vasty, Max's as good pace and a good passing game why not try him at s/o or even centre if we had more injurires, Plus how old is Max's he can only keep on improving just like Reece as done, Clubs too quickly offload they young players for a quick fix unlike Wigan who seem to play there players all over the place and credit to email
up the trim

| A good example of fullback going to stand off is Darren Lockyer. World class in both positions. Max is plenty young enough to master the full back position and like others I reckon he also has the ability to make a good stand off.

| Max always seems to be involved in try moves and I can see what Vastman means.
I would have thought it would be reasonably easy to give him a start there as long as there was cover in the team to re-shuffle if it it backfired!

Yes he did but oddly not in his usual way. His tackling and general play were pretty good, yet under the high ball which is normally his trump card he and lets be honest had a poor one - i think he was frustrated with himself, I put it down to being a bit ring rusty.
However what did stand out was his willingness to create and back himself, an absolute must in a top player. He totally created MCB last try, both with a great running line and break, a great pass to Batchelor and then a booming pass to the wing straight from the Tim Smith handbook. Despite what Poptart tries to make out that was way beyond standard fullback play. He also supplied at least one other try scoring pass from memory, ant S/O would be happy with that.
I've been watching this game for 40 years and I can spot a player with a RL brain a mile away and he has one - I personally think he's in the wrong position - doesn't mean he cant be a good FB just think his personal skill set is better suited elsewhere.
Not sure if he has a kicking game but i suspect he does.

| Countless Aussie stand offs start at fb
The ones that really excel tend to move on to stand off in there mid 20s
I'm happy with max developing as a full back
If in many years times after milky has retired as a trin player I'd love to see max develope in to a stand off

He only dropped one ball, which most top FBs do every weekend. His distribution was excellent all game, setting up 3 of the tries. I find it hard to understand any criticism of his overall game on Sunday to be fair, but that's just my opinion but everyone is entitled to theirs

Just watched the whole game and.... (cough) (choke) ... vastman is right ( poo that hurt!) there were several times that Max misjudged the kicking game of Salford... that said... otherwise he had a super game... very creative... unpredictable in his running lines... tough on Chessie as he has some genuine competition for several places ... not least Keegan Hirst laying down a marker ... thought he and Huby were our best performers in the prop area on Sunday!

| I am a big supporter of Max Jowitt. Whilst Grix has been great in many respects, he has a weakness under the high ball, something I think you will find Huddersfield supporters will have something to say on. Max looked strong under the high ball last year when he had regular game time. I have mixed feelings about his replacement this year by Grix but it is hard to be critical considering how much else Grix has offered us in attack and our current form

| After Sunday think max should start against Leeds .His line speed across the defence and link up play in attack plus the way he can go through a gap is a lot faster than Grix .Know Gibson missed one high ball on is own line hope max is not getting blame for that one.Over all though he was good under the high ball taking 2 or3 while running along is own goal line.Remember he was playing against one of the best kickers of a ball in S L

I think you've really misunderstood my point here. It's not a criticism it's a fact. I found it unusual because generally Max never misses them - he's one of the best under the high ball. Just one of those days, didn't cost us and Grix may well have done the same.
My original point regarding a move to S/O had nothing to do with Sunday's game. I've thought it for a while and the fact that as you say Max created three tries just made me more sure.
With vision and a passing game like that he's got it.
Also look at it from Another angle. I want our home products to make it all of them. FB though is a hotly contested spot even at the club. A British S/O who actually creates rather than just a runner - I haven't seen one in years. If max could nail that position using those skills he'll have a very long career indeed.
You know him I don't and he may not want such a move. However I know a play maker when I see one. So I can't see any harm in pointing it out.

| I think Max has all the attacking attributes to play SO the only thing that I think he could struggle with is the defensive side of things. His tackling is IMO not yet good enough for him to be in the defensive line rather than full back and this could lead to team targeting him. If he can put on a bit of size and improve his tackling then I see no reason why he couldn't become a very good standoff.

Max has played s/o on occasion for the u19s before and from recollection one was a game against Widnes that they won quite comfortably. I appreciate its a completely different level but a noteworthy point nonetheless. There are numerous examples of full backs and s/o's interchanging roles. A good example being Sam Tomkins who did the reverse move. Both are very similar positions in attack, it's just defensively where there are big differences in responsibility.
I've always thought it would interesting to see him play in the centres given his attacking ability to find the right pass, however I think his physicality when tackling in the line may let him down as things stand.
