| A lesson to the younger players who would think about taking the big clubs money. It doesn't always work the way you're told it would. Had he stayed at Trinity, and I accept he was probably pushed given the money troubles the club were in, he'd have a few more SL games under his belt and be further on in his development.
If he realises the potential he showed its a good deal for Hull, especially for no transfer fee.

| Hasn't really improved since he went to Leeds imo still got age on his side mind and if he isn't getting game time at Leeds why not go to somewhere you will, or hopefully will.

Could have been useful, Hull seem to have a Wire cap though.
Talk when they signed Ellis was about releasing some forwards for next year - just the opposite'"
fc were £60k under the cap this year, as for ellis his won't start untill next year and as its a 'live' cap it will have to be given the all clear by the rfl

| If he'd have been available at start or end of season I would like to think we would have been interested. As it is we cant be far off spent up and are well covered in the back row and I don't think he will make the step upto prop until later in his career.
I'd prefer to pick Murphy back up when he becomes available probably at some point in the next 10 months!
Take note young uns!

| Pitts is no better than we have. If he was any good Leeds would have him on a 4 year deal by now.
We don't need another prop/second rower!

Well said KK! Pitts was playing regular first team rugby at the time, and i've no doubt he'd have continued to do so considering the form he was showing. Whilst it's understandable that such a decision is never easy, more youngsters should look to establish themselves as a regular in the first team before moving on.
Whether it's the money or the club, Pitts development has stalled because he was naive to believe everything he was 'sold'. Hopefully in this case, Hull can resurrect what looked a promising career. But as KK alluded too sometimes the short term gain doesn't outway the long term prospects!!

| Only reservation I have is that he don't look any different than when he left. Hence...
Is he big enough to Prop?
Mobile enough to S/R
Smart enough to play 13?
Like the lad but not sure what his position really is.

| Too nice for me. Next forward we sign needs to be one that is feared by opposition and not afraid to get his hands dirty if it gets a bit physical.

Never heard him described that way - as an Academy player he was considered to have a bit to much niggle in him to say the least. What you are doing is describing Jay Pitts perfectly

Most of us will never know the full story on this or other players leaving deals.
I couldn't blame him for thinking that Leeds was a better option for him at the time, but it didn't work out for him. There was also the small matter of a transfer fee - and I suspect he may have been 'encouraged' to leave as we needed the cash at the time.
Judging him as a player - well he would be borderline first team right now (assuming everyone is fit), but then he hasn't had the extended first team run that he needs - yet.
One further point - if he came to Wakey he would be classed as home trained.
I seriously rate this lad - he's at least as good as Westerman IMO!

Thats correct and thats why i made comment, its oh so easy to make statements on here without knowing any detail but in this case Jay should not be castigated for leaving imo.
Everytime he's played for Leeds he's done very well and thats from what i've seen and friends have told me, he may not be the finished article but he is a very good player.
Not sure we need him at this present time but imo he's the sort of player we know need to hang on to and i'm sure that will happen in future.

Not sure thats entirely a valid point (well not in this case at least) - he left to join the multiple grand final winning team with a fantastic winning culture, being surrounded by quality at every turn - and with fantastic facilities to boot. He has now gone to a club making all the right noises off the field (although admitedly they have had a few false dawns on this front) who are also spending big money and must have realistic grand final aspirations in the next 3 years or so and he will continue learning his trade from one of the best 2nd row forwards in the world for the 5 or 6 years or so.
Would have loved to see him come back though, but given the balance of the squad we have he is in a position we dont have any issues with and any money available for him would be better spent elsewhere.

| It doesn't matter what club you play for, what facilities they have or how much you earn if your not getting first team rugby! He would have been better served in my opinion staying at Wakefield for a couple of seasons earning zilch but gaining invaluable experience by playing first team competitive rugby and then moving to Leeds, Hull etc.
I've no doubt he'll get that opportunity at Hull but his development stalled whilst at Leeds and there's no doubt he's behind where he could have been. I don't know whether he was pushed by WTW but I do think it points out a valuable lesson in that moving to a bigger club doesn't necessarily help a youngsters development.
