See Martin Sadlers post. A little convoluted, but it means Trinity have to be on the ball from the word go if they make it to 2015. If they were to finish in a relegation spot come 2014 there will be a chance to redeem themselves in 2015. Complicated but sounds exciting, even if I think reducing the league is the wrong thing to do.

| Post from Martyn Sadler taken from another forum regarding the outcome of the meeting at the RFL on wednesday to discuss the way forward for RL in this country. Sounds absolutely barmy to me.
[i
Just to clarify on what is being proposed. [/i
[iThe idea, as far as I understand it, is that the two bottom teams will be relegated from Super League at the end of 2014, regardless of which teams they will be. There could even be three teams relegated if the clubs decide they want Toulouse in the competition in 2015 with a TV deal possibly on the table from BeIn Sport.
There will then be two divisions of 12 each, which will play each other once (eleven games) in the first half of the season.
In the second half of the season, those clubs will split into three divisions of eight teams, depending on finishing places in the first half of the season. The bottom four Super League clubs will be in with the top four Championship clubs (which may include the two SL clubs relegated the previous season). Those teams will play each other at home and away (14 games) in the second half of the season.
The top four clubs in the second tier, at the end of that season, will then return to Super League for 2016.[/i

| As I've already said. Convoluted but will provide a bit of excitement in the 2014/15 seasons.

Believe me mate, I'd love the drama of a million pound game as opposed to nothing but dead rubbers from April onwards

| The spirit of what they are trying to do is not that bad but I don't like the splitting of the league half way through the season. They are just over complicating it.
Also, who are the 24 going to be? Championship is 14, so that means dropping 4 of those too. 5 if Toulouse comes in.
I'd be ok with two divisions with propotion and relegation. I'd also say that criteria has to be passed to get into Super League but that it needs be much more transparent.
I'd like to unedrstand the tv right sfor it all too. Will the second league be included in the tv coverage on Sky? Makes a difference to sponsorship etc.

| For this to have any credibility the teams from 12 to 24 will have fulltime squads otherwise it will be a non event as the same 12 teams will remain at the top forever.
The question is, where is the extra money comming from ?

Isn't that the question. We have an integrated competition that includes 24 teams, how can you possibly allocate the limited SKY money in a fair manner?

I was listening to Yorkshire Radio yesterday and they stated the top clubs get 1.2 million a year while the bottom clubs only get 800k. So the money was never split fairly anyway.

| Some teams in the 2nd tier will have nothing to play for after 11 games as they can't be promoted - seems a short season, especially if they are a team in contention who have a slow start because of injuries.
Will the teams keep their league points from the first 11 games? The 'mid' 8 teams from the top division could have 0 points after 11 games whereas the lower division team could have 22 points, so the assumption is that they will start again. However, the top 8 sides will have to keep their points from the initial fixtures, they can't 'start again' as what would be the motivation for winning all the initial games?
How this all will be explained to some fleeting supporter I don't know.
I often get asked, how are WT doing? and generally the enquirer wants to know league position. I'm not sure I would know how to answer that if our future start under the new system was like our current season start. We would be in the scrap for 'relegation' after 11 games with no chance of a play-off or winning the title - even if we won every game after the first 11

I am not sure what they get but its nothing like £800K. This crazy plan would somehow have to come up with a massive amount of extra cash to give all the 24 teams an even financial chance.

| And here is another question, how will the clubs sell season tickets ?
They will know less than half the fixtures and dates. Will they sell half a ticket for the first bit of the season and then another ticket for the last bit ?

| Why do they want to over complicate things.
To me, and most I speak, with the way ahead is one up, one down.
With a proviso that certain essential and totally clear criteria have to be met.
No ifs, buts or special cases.

Its a way of reducing the top tier to 12, after that the second group will be cast aside like the championship have been.

| Here's a radical suggestion,
3 divisions with the bottom team being demoted and the top team being Champions and promoted to the higher division.

| In terms of splitting the money, if there isn’t any more forthcoming. Then a 60/40 or 70/30 split would be satisfactory.
I’m not sure what the current subsidy is, but if it stands at £1.2M per SL club this totals £16.8M per season. This roughly ties in with the £90M figure quoted as being the value of the most recent 5 year TV deal.
If this were to be split on a 60/40 basis the top 12 would receive £840K and the bottom 12 £560K. If it were a 70/30 then the top 12 each get £980K and the bottom 12 £420K. Any more than that and it becomes a futile exercise fusing the top of the second tier with the bottom of the first.

It does rather seem that Big Al has hit the nail on the head; some of the games power-brokers have been clamouring for a reduction in the number of teams in SL, so this feels like a complicated way to achieve that, whilst trying to convince the teams cast adrift that it's for their own good.
Without a significant uplift in TV money, either from Sky or BeIn for the 2nd tier, the whole thing becomes nothing more than an exercise in allowing Leeds, Wigan, Wire and a.n other to keep more money (and players) for themselves.
I'm trying to work out what a late run of wins like we had last season would look like in this proposed new structure; as far as I can tell, it would all be for naught - our season would have been over before that winning run even got started.
