After attending the last meeting with james and andrew,and listening with regard to taking time to selecting the right man.Iv just read we have signed ellis,but was told yesterday[rumour i know i know that the club were to announce a few more very shortly.Just wondered about assembling a new squad, then a coach, and then saying here's your players for next season.Surely after all this we should let the new coach select his own or, its the old there not my players, i inherited them my hands are tied.Or do they already know the coach and are buying on his advice? any thoughts!

Having just read the article ref: Tongia signing, the very same thoughts went thro' my head.
As much as I welcome signings that don't view BV as a retirement home, I would have thought
a coach should be our next signing, or as you say, do we, the club, know him already.

Interestingly, he coached the U20's at Wests prior to getting the assistant job, suggesting that he knows how to develop young players; that has to be a big plus for us?

i had just read that about him been assistant coach of the national team.

don't want to get too excited about this, but he fits the bill exactly regarding who and what i want as coach.

he will be talking to ellis about us as well, ,+ if he knows the national team as well he may be able to get a couple of them over here......

in fairness to the club. the players that have signed.... ellis masselot and tongia, tongia has only signed for the last 4 games of this season currently, and masselot isnt going to be a first choice, he will be a fringe player playing reserves pushing for a place. only ellis that i would consider would be a first teameer of the three, and given his reviews, i think most coaches would have him.

so i dont really think its an issue of coach before players. although i would like a coach first so that that excuse cant be banded around. the sooner one is announced, the sooner we can get on with new signings. perhaps next seasons coach is currently at another club and doesnt want to unsettle his players ?

To be honest I get the impression it's a British or British based coach.

Peter Gentle sounds very good but I seriously doubt he would sign Ellis or Wilkes because I doubt they would even be on his radar. If they are then he is seriously thorough in his research.

To me there is someone pulling the strings at the club who understands the British game. He is able to tap in to that core of British players who make up the hard working journeyman class. Good players but not star players.

If this is not the case and it is someone from the NRL then someone is advising him who to go for to match the new guys requirements. I've mentioned him before though I have no proof these signings have Steve Ferres or someone like fingerprints all over them.

Jimmy and Steve worked together for a long time but not sure if they got on well at the end.

Could be getting advice from a scout, or even an agent
