Quote ="vastman"I think people truly mis the point of friendlies - the result is by and large irrelevant, though it is always nicer to win.
For us it was an excellent day because it went to plan. It does however offer no real guide to how we will perform against Cas.
It was a success because…
1: No injuries unlike the poor lad from Hull (look nasty).
2: No injuries I know of.
3: A very good physical run out.
4: A lost tries meaning a lot of moves were tested and within the confines of a friendly proved effective.
5: This in turn gives us a confidence boost which is goods long as it don't turn into complacency or an unfounded sense of superiority in which case Cas will steamroller us.
Over all three friendlies each proportionately harder than the last culminating in a good and entertaining win. It's no guarantee of a great season but I don't think you can ask for much more from a pre-season. For Webster it's that box ticked and that's all it is.
Ditto Hull, they could be a completely different team come season kick off.'"
Good post, in the past we have looked like world beaters in pre-season and then looked dreadful when the season starts, personally I wouldn't have done what Radford did yesterday, but that's up to him and the test of if that was the right decision will be seen in a couple of weeks.
The injury to Curtis Naughton isn't that bad, just banged his head and expects to be Ok when the season starts.
