A good interview from an honest Chairman I believe.
I totally agree that Super League survival is our main goal for this year. Financial security would be a great novelty and should put us in a stronger position for next year with player recruitment. Without the former, the latter is more difficult, with out the latter, the former will be more difficult next year!
I would only question, if this was raised last week, would an immediate change have sparked the team into a better performance against the Bulls, and we'd now be talking about the Webster effect? we'll never know, but a change in coach often does result in a change of fortune. we'd then be looking down at Salford below us in the table.
I'm also intrigued in that a true resignation would presumably mean less of a payout in contract negotiations. Whilst Webster may get a rise, there should be funds freed up by Agars departure?
Agar is a good man and well liked throughout the game, it was though time for a change and it was best for both parties to go their seperate ways. But if Agar hadn't had walked MC would have never sacked him and that is an area he needs to look at in future. Close friendships cannot be allowed to cloud his professional judgement. A good working relationship is the best moving forward and leave it at that. If i'd have been MC though i'd have steered away from making the comment about an outside coach would have cost the club more to bring in. It really makes it sound like Webster got the job as he was the cheapest option. That may or may not be true but it's another stick to beat them both with if it doesn't pan out well.
I nearly had my tissues out shadding a tear. Agar is not a messiah apart from the first year he built 2 very good squads unfortunatly he didnt have the ability to get the best out of them.
