Quote ="Tommy Duckfingers"Because, if you hadn't noticed there seems to be a belief amongst our poor relations from over the common that they are, all of a sudden, competing for honours and a coach like Kear is way beneath them. What they fail to realise is they have most probably had their 15 mins of fame and a day out in the play offs much like Crusaders last year, us the year before and Salford a couple of years before that - only to have a rude awakening when they bump back to the real world the year after.
I reckon plenty down't lane are going to have trouble accepting that they have most likely ridden the crest of the wave this year, taking advantage of playing some teams at the right time, in the right conditions massively over achieving for a long period of the season and generally speaking ridden their luck to the play offs and their season will basically grind to a halt the same way everybody else's other than Wire, Wigan and probably Saints.
Pattern repeats itself many times over, most years you get a bolter who over achieve and then reality bites leaving bottom 3rd of the table finishes much harder to stomach because in the words of James "now its come back round again, its worse than it was before. If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor."'"
I would say we have been pretty consistent in where we are in the league in recent years 7th, 9th and likely to get 8th this year, so i'm not sure where this idea we are having one wonder season has come from, we are steadily building up our team and our league position. As for our run early in the season when we were missing only 2 or 3 players at a time we won 7 out of 8 when we had 7 or 8 players out at a time (including most of our front rowers) we lost more than we won, for obvious reasons. We have had injuries in double figures for a number of games this year, which would devastate any team (especially losing 4 front rowers). I dont expect us to be in the top 4 or anything next season but in or around the playoffs again. You say we were lucky to be playing certain team at certain times but you could equally say the teams that have got wins against us have been lucky playing when we have so many injuries, swings and roundabouts.
