Bumped into him today as i was picking up my season ticket . He was telling me that he holds the record for most tries scored in a game,against Widnes 1996 ish.Googled it but cannot find it . Is he correct?

Also telling me about Courgarmania,which i was not part of,and what a fantastic time he had at Keighley, and the team mates he had.Some big names he was reeling off

He was bloody good player in his time, anyone who watched or went to the willows former Salford ground will remember when a cowardly salford player nearly decapitated him as he was clean thtpugh resulting in a serious facial injury.

That's correct Jason Critchley (Critch) did it; 6 from memory. A fantastic game and feat by the winger. He then started to strip-off (but not too much) and threw his socks etc into the crowd. Or was that another game?

He stripped off at Wakefield I remeber it well he was my late Mums favourite and when he started stripping she was pushing everyone out of the way to get his shorts.Alas she didnt get them but it gave us a good laugh

Jason was a great player, the Salford player who broke his cheekbone was Mike Gregory, and if he hadn't of taken Jason out, he most likely would have scored.
Cougarmania was great, and hopefully we can get back to where we once were.

Sorry to pedantic but I'm sure the Salford Player that took out Critch in THAT amazing night game at the Willows was one Richard Webster , the former Welsh Rugby Union Player .

Am I right in saying Critch and Webster had a bit of previous leading up to the game?

I only went to the Willows twice, both were amazing games. That cold Wednesday night, and the Swinton Game last season.

Wednesday 20/9/1995 Salford Reds 14 Keighley Cougars 2, arguably the high water mark of Cougarmania in relation to team performance & result. I think it was Webster who put the cheap shot on Jason, this was made worse when Mike Gregory (RIP) dragged the prone Critchley to his feet in the dieing seconds of the game possibly thinking he was 'milking it/time wasting'. The full time hooter went shortly after & Critchley joins in the Cougar Crawl & other celebrations (we'd signed him from Salford). After the match he was diagnosed with a broken jaw.

In fact you did not see Critch score 6 tries as this feat was achieved in a midweek match against Widnes which Keighley won 66-6 (or similar score). You were away on business and missed it but I was there! (that is unless my memory is worse than yours).

He equalled the 5 tries in a match record in a game prior to the Widnes match (in his radio interview after the match he said "obviously" many times!)

He threw his socks in to the crowd in his last match for the cougars (I think)
