| Thought I'd put this one out there. I'm sure everyone will have a very interesting viewpoint.
* Are we any closer to the Aussies now than before Super League?
* Are the rich getting richer and the poor poorer? Clubs in administration, going out of business etc?
* The Wigan game last night showed our top SL clubs could compete, but what about at international level?
* Have we really developed the game? Yes, Harlequins are current top of SL, however, is this really going to stay that way? * Catalans and various Wales attempts?

| Super league seemed a good idea at the start.
Grass roots rugby needs a dream.
Promotion relegation no ifs no buts.
The only way.
If your ground / crowds / youth are not up to scratch, chances are you wouldn't get in top flight anyway.

| * No, before Super League we had players like Newlove, Davies, Connolly, Offiah, Edwards and Hanley. All genuine world class players. I reckon we've only 1 or 2 of that standard now.
* Not sure about rich getting richer and poor getting poorer. But things like the salary cap haven't prevented badly run clubs, getting in to trouble.
* Wigan vs Saint George-Illawara was a tremendous advertisement for Rugby League. However we don't have the player pool to compete at international level with Australia and New Zealand. I think the system needs to change. Who in their right mind would invest heavily in Junior Rugby League if the players can reach 15-16 and go to Super League clubs for no compensation?
* I think the RFL is learning. Just plonking a team somewhere and sticking it in Super League has generally led to disaster. However, sticking teams in the lower divisions and allowing them to develop is starting to work. It appears London Skolars are shaking off their easy beat status and South Wales have done Ok.

| I think we need more teams in the lower divisions though, and a bit more consistency with fixtures. Some months we don't seem to get a home game, others there's more than people can afford to get to. Also, makes it hard to get new faces down if they can't see games regularly enough to maintain any interest.
I think summer rugby has made a difference as far as competing internationally (more opportunity for fast, flowing rugby), but don't think SL has contributed much to that in it's own right. I think it's just widened the divide, to the detriment of the rest of the game.

| No. Just look at the rubbish crowds we get outside of SL due to no P & R. The early nineties in the old second division there were good teams and crowds. Keighley had great crowds. I remember Workington bringing about a thousand down to Tattersfield once. It just feels like we're all waiting for God nowadays.......

Keighley had good crowds because of Cougar mania and the thought of promotion.
As soon as that was taken away the game was doomed.
We are no nearer beating the Aussies, in fact you could include the Kiwis in that now. So we have gone backwards on the international front.
The game below SL is a mess. As people have pointed out the fixtures are crap. Not enough teams and not enough home games. Games spread to far apart. No wonder fans are walking away from the game.
SL is made out to be the top level of our game. Take out the overseas players and it would fall apart.
Teams in SL were struggling for money, before SL and its the same now.

| I have the master plan to save RL.
Bring back P & R, and all clubs go back to being part time and only paying out what they can afford. How difficult can it be?

| I'd bring back P&R and change the salary cap rules.
Players and Coaches wages can't exceed 60% of turnover with the maximum total limit what it is now.
Debt (including director loans) is not allowed to exceed 50% of turnover except in circumstances where the loan has been taken out to fund a new stadium.
Any club who fails to pay a tax bill on time is immediately deducted 2 wins worth of points.
RFL to pay a fee of £50k for each player that a club (professional or amateur) produces that is selected in the England squad.

Flipping heck, I actually find myself agreeing with GW !!!!!!
Having said that, something did need to be done, the game was imploding. But the initial concept was forced through so fast in a money grabbing exercise that too many mixed agendas of powerful and influential people at the time led to a second rate compromise.
- The RFL want well run, financially stable clubs in nice stadia with good youth systems - a noble ideal.
- However, SL clubs are just plain greedy and don't give a monkeys about anything outside superleague. As long as they get their share of the sky cash they will break and bend rules to suit themselves and sod the consequences. They don't care if the current shambolic system is a catalyst for the decline of small clubs - it just gives them a bigger catchment area. It's been very interesting to watch the sudden change in attitude of some SL clubs now they realise they are in the firing line for the oblivion of life in the lower leagues.
I bet there will be no promise of promotion for a Championship club in the next round of franchises.

If it did work, you would not have had to ask the question.

It's far more fun being mildly insane and is a positive advantage when conversing on message boards like this one
