| I know the board won't come on and answer this (Prob won't have the balls too).
But my question is:-
If we are going to be looking for superleague in 5 years how we going to get out of championship 1 with no half backs.????????????????????????
Half Backs are the creative players of most teams so unless am missing something how we going to go up when we don't have any.
So if you have ambition for superleague and aren't just talking S**T buy a halfback now before its to late.

| If you've got the balls why don't you ring the club and ask Gary and the board yourself because as you say, they probably won't answer your question on this forum.

I totally agree its the 2nd proper game, reality check time, whilst today we did not score we kept dewsbury who are no mugs and a division higher its our first defeat. As Andrew says ring club rather than slag them off remember this is not Keighley Cougars official site and under no obligation to respond to any post especially twaddle like the original post.

| It was just a plain and simple question to the directors.
When you say about me slagging the half backs off a lot of the fans today gave the players a lot of stick, especially buster who got shouted to get off the pitch a lot by the fans.

| I heard people shouting for Buster to get off the pitch and was abit shocked to hear that. He is our captain who gives his all every game and is proud to play for his home town club. Remember late in 2009 when He broke his cheekbone and we expected to be his season over, He then plays a vital role in winning the Grand Final.
I also heard a couple of keighley fans in the toilet at halftime having a moan about Brendon Rawlins, saying he did nothing last season, and why have we kept him, because he's an Aussie (their words, not mine).
I missed alot of last year, he took time to settle after arriving in 2007, but certainly say in 2008 and once he got back, in 2009 he played a vital roll in our making the playoffs in those 2 season.

I heard that exact same conversation. I don't know who they are but they stand behind me in the Car Wash stand for home games and do nothing but moan all game especially about the half backs, quite sad really. They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for the underlined part of that comment.

| Come on ......two 'official' games in n we are all taking this far too seriously...
We lost to effectively to two tries in what was a war of attrition in the Dewsbury mud........
We were playing a Championship side ( don't forget we are Now a championship one club ) and, TBH at the beginning of the day, I personally would have settled for a result like that at a club that has always been a nemesis weve Alus got knackered at Crown Flatt, Owl, Ram , tetleys or whatever it is called in it's present incarnation
Game this afternoon was dire, but it was two teams of reasonably equal ability cancelling each other out for the vast majority of the match, ......
MOM in my view had to be Olly P, some really tough defensive work In the periods he was in the field ...unsung hero

Yes we gave away penalties and dropped the ball. But missed few tackles and Dewsbury made almost as many mistakes. We gave away 14 penalties and they gave 11.
Watch the video and you can not fault the effort. Come the season we have good things to look forward to. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ENyRt1EQfg
As for Buster, I saw a bloke giving 100%. A tackling machine as always tackling well above his weight.

Buster put in some huge hits today as he always does, he's a defensive colossus.
However, he was responsible for more than his fair share of penalties. If a referee penalises you for preventing a play of the ball, why stick your hands on the ball in the tackle again? Just really dumb play to be honest.
In defence of the fans telling Buster to get off. Jamaine was on the sideline for a good 3 minutes (including a scrum) waiting to come on for him. It wasn't until the trainer ran on to the field that the interchange was made.

| People pay there hard earned money to watch the Cougars.
If they are not happy with what they see. Then they can voice that opinion.
Weather its right or wrong, is irrelevant. Its still there choice to do it.

I think this debate has done the rounds a few times now and from my point of view it's not about what people have the [iright[/i to do more about people using common sense and deciding what they [ishould[/i do.
"come on lad you're better than that, get yourself sorted and get at 'em!"
is far better than
"get off you are a 'kin useless waste of space"
A good question for fans to ask themselves is; would you go up to a player in the bar and say it? Or do you just prefer to do it at a safe distance (or from behind a keyboard)?
Having talked to a few players and players families in the bar after games, they believe that most Keighley fans are supportive rather than abusive. It's just a shame that those few that want to be abusive have big mouths and loud voices.

| Must have missed the abuse. But there are a few who are negative week after week - but they pay thier money . To be honest if you are the family of anyone playing sport or even a referees family (can you imagine that)you have to have a thick skin. Not every one can phrase things "nicely". I like positive cheers and chants and reserve my negativity to a murmur into my coat, but thats the way I am. Did people hear the chants from the Cougar famil? Didnt hear much from Dewsbury, who I recall last year when they came to Cougar park where so negative against thier own players even in the sight of a win. Each to thier own. Learning curve for the team I thought though.

Most people don't like confrontation. How many people complain about bad service from shops/restaurants. Instead they moan about it and dont go back.
We live in a very pressurised society, some people will use the game as a chance to vent some anger.

I think there are two situations:
A group of people debating play - some of the comments derogatory to certain players ability. As long as they are not making a public nuisance of themselves I can't see that being much of a problem.
An individual or group shouting abusive statements at the top of their voice - everyone can hear it even the player's. I don't think there is a place for this in a family oriented sport.
I suppose there is a third situation where someone uses a witty comment to good effect ie player "x" drops ball for second time, witty wag shouts "bl**dy hell "x" have you been using your mums hand cream again"
Rugby League portrays itself as a family sport; we sometimes need to remember that.

| Response from Gary Fawcet:-
Jason is the Head Coach and he makes decisions around this. We have two young half backs who played well against Rochdale and we believe that they will develop as the season goes on. The season is still in its early stages. As always we will be monitoring the market to ensure that any opportunity for signing players is maximized.

| Hello all. I'm new to the forum, but not to Keighley. I've supported the Cougars for many years and having monitored this forum for some time I felt the need to register to add my two peneth. I've unfortunately missed the first few games of the season, but plan to be there on Saturday cheering on the boys.
I'm not here to criticise the thoughts and opinions of others, but really feel it's far too early to start getting on the backs of our young half backs. From what I've seen from the fantastic video's by Mick and from what I've been told they haven't done a bad job so far. JD has said he is willing to give the squad a chance. As a former sports person myself a chance has to be more than a couple of games, especially when new in a team. Lets face it there has been a few changes around the place since the end of last season and it takes time to adjust and get to know your teamates.
I've got a load of time for JD and think he talks sense. With his mentoring maybe the young half backs can flourish. I'm glad our chairman has come and answered the point, albeit, I don't feel he should have been asked the question via a forum in the first place.
Give the lads a chance. It's still early days, get behind them!
