Indians battered
Intersting times for Indian test cricket, the brilliant old guard batting wise seem to be fading away, not helped by a limited bowling attack. The IPL brings their bright talent fame and fortune, but test cricket just seems like an unwelcome sideshow. Only seen brief highlights of today's play but it appears to have just been a total capitulation from the Indian tail.

| There will be a particularly passionate rendition of Jerusalem at 10am uk time from the barmy army in Dubai on Tuesday, during the 1st test match. This will coincide with the start of a funeral service of one of the armies keenest members who sadly committed suicide last week!!
RIP George.

love a good rendition of Jerusalem, sad that though.
Remember it being done during a lull in the game in New Zealand a few years back and it just sounded amazing.

Not sure how good it will sound on the tele from Dubai, don't think there are overly many of the army making the trip, with Sri Lanka being just around the corner.......

| 192 all out, glorious stuff...
On the county side of things, what are people's thoughts on the Morgan Review? Shocking if you ask me, the one competition that doesn't need tinkering with is the Championship. Pillocks. And all for a Champions League that no one really cares about nor seems to be that secure for the long term. If it is going to be p*ssed about with, I'm just glad we won it again beforehand.
Talking of which, for no reason other than to brag, I'm off to Abu Dhabi the last week in March for the Champion County match against the MCC. Should be fun.

Not surprisingly, it's the PCA that are pushing for a commitment to Champions League participation - a nice little jolly and a chance to make some cash for 22 of their members come the end of the season.
Changing the structure of the Championship completely devalues the integrity of the competition. How can you have a league table decide the winners of the title when all sides have different fixture lists?

| Just watched the highlights of today's play, very disappointing display from our batsmen - but not unexpected in the face of a decent spinner.
We seemed to score at a reasonable rate off the seamers and Pakistan didn't seem too troubled by them either, could be a mistake only going into the game with Swann as a front-line spinner.

Been listening quite a lot this morning, consensus seems to be that the bowlers had done an ok job, just 'defending' a low total.

| Still pretty open IMO.
England traditionally start badly on tour and this has been no exception - Last winter's Ashes series started almost as badly, yet we managed to rescue it.
I think if we can keep Pakistan under 350, then we might still have an outside chance of winning this one...They have a bit of a reputation of folding when in control of a match and if set anything over 200 to win, it will be interesting to see how they stand up to the pressure.

| If we can get them out for around 320 and then score about the same they might struggle on a day 4/5 pitch to get 200 to win the game.
That said it will largely depend on how we play Ajmal as will the series.

Gul has all three
Strauss wasn't happy about his
KP duck - is he purely there on reputation? seemingly little consistency these days, or is that harsh?

| KP rarely delivers when we're up against it and you need him to hang around and be patient. Great when we're on top and attacking, but not someone you'd want in the trenches with you.

| Just how bad must that Australian side have been for this England team to blow them away on their own patch?
The decision not to play a second spinner because it would weaken the batting looks laughable now.
