| I was a Houston Oilers fan from when C4 showed the NFL from the 80s and I thought about becoming a Steeler after the Oilers quit but decided to carry on with the Tennessee Oilers and then Tennessee Titans and do I regret it ? Not one little bit.

| I vaguely remember watching on Channel 4 back in the day when I was younger and also playing Joe Montana Football on the Sega Megadrive but I never really followed the game.
About 6 years ago I picked up a copy of Madden 2001 on a whim and after playing it, I decided that I would give the sport a try and start watching it. I decided to follow the team who I had been playing as on the game, the Rams. Being the season they made the Superbowl, they were the best team on the game (little did I know how different things would be when I started watching ) and because I liked the uniforms, the fact that they had players like Warner and Faulk (unfortunately Warner had left and Faulk was coming to the end of his career at the time) and the whole 'Greatest Show On Turf' idea, they became my team.
I've been hooked since I started watching despite having to watch such a bad team over the last 3 years and not seeing the Rams have a winning season.

Pretty much the same story for me except it was in 99-2000 when i got into the NFL. The Rams were irresistible to watch so I chose to follow them. Had 3 years of success before the mediocrity of near .500 seasons into the current mess that we are in.

Final word on the 'facemask'.'"
He's actually wrong or wrong in his interpretation. There is no such thing as an incidental facemask anymore, that was removed. Therefore a brief touching of the facemask such as a stiff arm or a brief touching in the course of a tackle do not call for a flag. To get flagged you need to pull or twist the facemask. There is little doubt, since his hand remained in constant contact from the tackle to the ground, that Adams PULLED Rodgers down by the facemask and thus should have been called.
Also, he doesn't clarify what should have been called. He simply says that they would be unlikely to overturn the call on replay.

As vice president of officiating in the NFL i get the feeling that his interpretation is going to be correct when push to comes to shove. Interesting to see Rodgers has said that they lost because of his mistakes and not the refereeing. Fair play to him for not hiding.
The wording of the article seems that an accidental face mask, the one that used to get 5 yards i think, should not be punished at all rather than all getting 15 yards. NFL.com quote here,
Quote The NFL issued an explanation of the rule, noting that "twisting, turning or pulling" the facemask is a 15-yard penalty, but the penalty for an "incidental" grab of the facemask was eliminated before the 2008 season.'"

Or trying to cover up for his referees ala Stuart Cummins. The rule he says is correct ie it is pulling or twisting, but i think he is wrong to say there is none. Adams is in constant contact with the facemask and pulls Rodgers to the ground by it. As Rodgers attempts to turn to recapture the ball he can't because Adams has his helemt so it twists and that is why it ends up kicked.
Also he doesn't actually say what the correct call would be. He just says they wouldn't have overturned the call, no matter what the call, from the replay booth.

Yep, he refused to talk about the facemask. I'm not trying to make excuses, we lost because of a terrible first quarter and a shocking defence for the whole of the game. There is no telling whether we win the game anyway if they call it or whether we deserved to win the game, but i think it's pretty clear that play should not have ended the game.

Yeah, incidental facemask was removed 2008 i think and now all facemasks are 15 yards ie the ones under the remaining rule.

| Aaron Rodgers has a very bright future in the NFL and I think the Green Bay Packers will be safe in his hands. They're a young team and will get better. I would say they'll be there or thereabouts in 2 or 3 years.

Well ifs and buts and all that. Was a corker of a game. Thought you said earlier in the thread that the Pack were robbed? I stand to be corrected though.
Looks like that All-Pro team has been picked on name. AP has had an average season for me and yet has got in ahead of Jackson, Jones and MJD.

I probably did in anger but i'll quantify it. I'm not going to claim we were robbed of the game. We were robbed of our chance to win in OT by 2 major missed calls (helmet to helmet and facemask) which would both advance us 15 yards and retain the ball. Whether that is "homer" refereeing/bias/ineptness or whatever. To end such a fantastic game on a play that should not stand leaves a bitter taste.
At the same time there is no guarantee if we get the calls that we score and for the defeat we can only blame ourselves for conceeding 51 points, a totally inept defensive performance and a shocking first quarter. We can only blame ourselves for being in the position where a refs call allows me to complain, we had a shot to Jennings in OT and we blew it, we play like we should or could and we'd win. That is our fault.
Like i said, i'm not saying we were the best team (we weren't) or the team who deserved to win (debatable) but we were definately robbed of at least another shot to win because the play shouldn't stand.
I think i've made myself clear and appreciate my ramblings get quite repetative at times so i'll leave the discussion on the facemask there.

Actually S-Jax is in the second team. Here it is.
QB- Drew Brees
RB- Ray Rice
RB- Steven Jackson
FB- LeRon "John" McLain
WR- Reggie Wayne
WR- Larry Fitzgerald
TE- Antonio Gates
T- Michael Roos
T- Jake Long
G- Logan Mankins
G- Kris Dielman
C- Andre Gurode
DE- Trent Cole
DE- Julius Peppers
DT- Darnell Docket
DT- Haloti Ngata
ILB- Brian Cushing
ILB- LaMarr Woodley
OLB- David Harris
OLB- Jon Beason
CB- Nnamdi Asomugha
CB- Asante Samuel/ Leon Hall (tie)
S- Brian Dawkins
S- Ed Reed/ Nick Collins (tie)
P- Andy Lee/ Donnie Jones (tie)
K- David Akers
KR- DeSean Jackson
Personally i have more disagreements with this team than the first team. I'd take out Gates and put in Vernon Davis (he been excellent for the 9ers). Gotskowski for Akers. I don't think Fitz, Peppers or Dawkins have had excellent season so i'd replace Fitz with Sidney Rice and the other two i'm not sure.

I would hope he means Thomas Jones, one of the most underrated RBs in the game...5 consecutive 1,000 yards+ seasons, over 9,000 rushing yards in his 10 seasons in the NFL, led the AFC in rushing last season, 62 TDs...

| I've been a 49ers fan for more than 20 years, and would never consider changing teams, no matter how bad they were playing ( which has been pretty bad the last few years ) or what happened off the field/behind the scenes - I wouldn't even know which other team I would consider switching too if I did decide to ever change. Started to support them back in the late 80's, when they were always on the limited Channel 4 coverage that we used to get, and got to know the names of the players/coaches etc, and have just stuck with them from there.

That was going to be my question.
I think Carolina only need a decent game manager to be succesful. They have a potent rushing attack.

Matt Moore finished the season very well. A quarteback rating of around 95 I think. It helps alot having two very, very good running backs. Delhomme may get released but has a big cap hit. I expect Moore to start and Peppers to be tagged. The wins we picked up towards the end of the season we had alot of players missing.

Yeah i figured after i posted it. I think he is consistently good and i agree underrated but not neccesarily as explosive or recognisable as S-Jax, AP, MJD, Johnson etc.

| To clear it up I meant Thomas Jones of the Jets. More yards, less fumbles and a rookie QB thrown into the mix. Don't get me wrong I love AP but he has struggled with fumbles this season and hasn't been as explosive. I'd of picked other players ahead of him personally
