| Quote ="the artist"its pretty hard to win the tour de france without the support of a top team. i also think you would find murray would say his team played a big part in his triumphs too. nearly all individual successes have a team behind them'"
But once on court, Murray is alone.....Wiggins has his team out with him on the road, alongside him.
I'm not 100% on this, but didn't I read somewhere that Chris Froome could just as easily won the Tour De France if he had received the same preferential treatment that Wiggins did from his team?
If that's true, then its blindingly obvious that, while a great acheivevment, Wiggins' victory had a huge debt to several other individuals.

Murray
Farah
In that order for me. People like Rory & Jess would have walked it in other years. Team of the year could be interesting as well.
Olympic cycling team for me - as dominant a performance over multiple events as you are ever likely to see.
On Wiggins... Yes he had the support of his team. However the fact he blew everyone off the road in individual time trials, including for his gold medal, proves how dominant he was. He's gone to places no Brit has ever gone to and if he doesn't win it be a travesty

fair comment on murray (who i think has done brilliant things this year and am a big fan). as for froome well we don't really know the answer to that one. once in yellow the additional pressures that come with it demand a special kind of character. froome will target the tour in 2013, we'll have a better idea then
and just to keep the debate on teams going, spoty is not always about individual events, giggs, wilkinson, botham and many others have won the award being the stand out person in a successful team

| Because the depth of candidates this year could The Beeb changing the catergories alittle?.
If not, top 3 i'm guessing would be Murray, Wiggins & Farah.
Team(s) award would be the G.B Olympic & Paralympic Teams.
Overseas could be between Michael Phelps & Sebastien Vettel (should he win the F1 world title again )

I agree. The team of the year will go to Team GB. European Ryder Cup team would have won it otherwise I think.

I think the whole thing will be a smarmy Olympic love in. They'll have a huge studio with all the competitors in it no doubt.

Be good to see the paralympics in the top 3 and she would get my vote over Weir...just hope its Wiggins that wins and they show Denise Lewis's face as the announce it seeing as she was banging on about Ennis winning it.Team of the yr should either be the cycling or rowing teams as they have carried Team GB for yrs and coach of the yr should be Dave Brailsford.

Why shouldn't Denise Lewis be banging on about Ennis' credentials for the title of SPOTY?...
Seeing as it is somebody who has been very successful in the sport that she was very successful in herself, then its only right that Lewis should back Ennis.....Personally, I'd choose Ennis over Wiggins anyway, so I don't understand why you would get such an obviously spiteful buzz from Lewis's reaction?

Lewis was banging on about it the minute she won it and saying that there should be a female catergory.Wiggins deserves it more than Ennis IMO and yes,i dont particularly like Ennis after she didnt compete in the last commonwealth games...she cited the security crap but all other competitors competed.Wiggind won the tour de france, then went out and tried to help Cavendish win then went out and did his time-trial and got his gold...Ennis does her stuff then pulls out of the 110mtrs hurdles....sorry but Wiggins has achieved more and put his own chances aside to help another.

Pulled out of the 100m hurdles??....That would be difficult seeing as she wasn't entered in it....
She is good enough to do the hurdles individual event, but chooses not to, simple as.
I fully respect your opinion on Wiggins and appreciate he is a pretty hot favourite to win it, but, personally, I think there are more deserving winners - I suppose that's the whole point of having a vote?...

She was to be fair. She entered it in case anything went wrong in the Heptathlon but confirmed pretty early that she wouldn't run in it.
I'm not sure you can be more deserving than Wiggins to be fair - there'll be some miles in those legs! His performance this year is unmatched - what he has done has never been done before by a Brit. He then went out and smashed a world class field to win Olympic gold. All this while actually having a personality (I know that isn't a prerequisite for SPOTY by the way).
Ennis wouldn't even be in my top 3 - that's unfortunate but it's the year we've had. She'd have been a worthy winner most year.
Unfortunately, I think the bad publicity might cost Wiggo a few votes.

Going back 2 years I think it's shocking Amy Williams didnt win after taking Olympic gold in the skeleton thingy!
To do that when you have nowhere to train in your own country!!!

All the other top athletes competed in Delhi? The 100m was won by Lerome Clarke of Jamaica with Mark Lewis-Francis second. Must have missed them on the podium in London. Farrah was nowhere to be seen, despite winning the Europeans earlier in the season, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce wasn't there, despite being World and Olympic champion. Also, she never cited security for not competing, it simply didn't fit in with her schedule, which she states in her book. Given they were in October, outside of the normal European season that sound feasible to me.
You are right she pulled out of the hurdles, saying she was done in after the heptathlon. In doing so she cost nobody a place, as there was only one other British athlete who had done the qualifying time and was eligible to enter.
As for this year's winner I'd agree with you and give it to Wiggins, followed by Farah and then Ennis.

| got 9 out of 12. surprised at kath grainger and nicola adams on there - would have gone for laura trott as a double gold winner and probably brownlee but poulter played a huge role in the ryder cup. ben ainslie - forgot about him at the time i made my predictions, probably would have included him.
ok top 3 time, i'm going for an entirely predictable
1. wiggo
2. murray
3. ennis
