| Quote ="Catalancs"First time I haven't been happy after an Athleti win. De Gea was United's best player and he had to be, I mean what were Anderson and Rafael doing for Munain's goal? Most people with an interest in Spanish football know about Llorente but I've been banging the drum for Munain for a while now. Last night wasn't his best game but he showed just how good he can be.
Fair play to the thousands of Athletic Club fans who made the trip over. They made it sound like a home game for the Basques.
If I'm going to try and salvage something positive, it would be that despite a woefully spiritless performance United only lost by one goal.'"
Might have been on this forum that I used to have an avatar of Muniain, I remember seeing him in his first season as a 16 year old and thought he'd be big. They were talking about him being a striker then, but he's now on the left a lot. There's huge potential there, it would be nice to see him fulfill it at Bilbao.

| I was gutted when Caparrós was shunted out because of politics not football and sceptical when Bielsa was chosen to succeed him, but things are looking very rosy at San Mamés. Plenty of young lads being given their chance, going well in Europe, fourth in the league and just a point away from a Champions League place.
Big game this weekend at Osasuna but I fancy them to go there and get a result. Llevant have a hard game at Malaga which I can see being a draw so that would see Athletic move into fourth.

| Slightly OT but if you ever play football manager buy Muniain. I always buy him in my games (if I'm a big team) and he gets into my first team straight away and usually bangs in 20+ goals in his first season.

Don't forget the great Tonton Zola Moukoko. He was gonna be one of the best players ever by now.

In his last stint in charge at Anfield, who was Kenny's last game against??.......Who is their next game against??....
The present stress levels are probably at similar settings as back in 1991 too....

| Redknapp looking more and more like an England manager.....
Moyes tactically spot on, Redknapp twitching on the bench, unable to change a thing because he is, quite frankly, toss.
The myth is quickly disintegrating before our eyes.....Spurs won't make the top 4 at this rate - How will the media spin the whole 'Harry is a genius' bit then?

Might as well let him have a crack, afterall the last few managers, Sven / Fabio won everything that the club game had to offer and did fuk all, so why not try Harry.

On a scouting mission for Man City? Lets face it, Utd will only sign the players City don't want for the forseeable future.

There isn't a problem with his shop stopping, its his command of area / catching / handling crosses he needs to improve. Then he will be v.good. See they are now getting him to bulk up.

I'll roll out the cliches before you lot get started. There's no doubting we've underperformed in our results in the league, but it seems so silly to say 'don't just judge him by the results'. We've played well for long spells this season but haven't capitalised on form, I know it's a results based business, but Kenny's done so much right, we just haven't put the chances away. If we were playing poorly (we actually did today), I would definitely be voicing my worries more, but we've not played poorly. I keep telling myself we'll 'click' eventually, but it isn't going that way and we've definitely left it too late now if we do suddenly click.
Questions do have to be asked about the signings, whether it was he, Comolli, or both of them, I don't know, but we spent a lot on players never good enough for us, let alone overpaying for. I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is little to no value in signing players based in England. There is no minimising the risk, there is no instant impact, there is no 'Premier League proven guarantee' and there is absolutely no sense in spending £35m on a single player when so many areas are weak.
Although the results don't tell the story, we're definitely better off now than we were last year, but we've still immensely underachieved, regardless of the victory in the smallest cup competition.

Not quite. United will only sign the players City don't sign, to stop other teams strengthening, due to bloody mindedness.
On a side note, Bloomberg are reporting that the Glazers are again looking to float on the Singapore SE.

Roddy, if the problem is that of a recurring one, then surely it highlights a managers shortcomings?

The recurring problem is finishing. If a side defends well, creates a lot of chances and controls possession well, there is very little more a manager can do other than get on the field and put the chances in himself. He's tried pretty much every forward partnership possible, we can't get it in the net, which brings me more to the transfer policy.
As I said, I think Kenny is doing so many things right in his management and tactics; however, he and/or Comolli haven't signed well and it's really limiting our results. Kenny isn't faultless, of course not, and he continues to make mistakes, it happens, I just feel we're being punished for ours more than any other sides in the league.

Dalgleish was from a forgotten era and is behind the times when it comes to management. His signings have been awful and Comolli being paid money by Liverpool to do the job he does is absolutely comical. I think you were very bullish about his abilities when you signed him, were you not?
I'd even go as far as saying Everton will humiliate Liverpool on Tuesday, but there is the little problem of Dirk Kuyt and Liverpool being the luckiest team the world has ever seen, so I've no doubt you'll fluke a win.

Go on then, I'll bite; what's outdated about Kenny's tactics? Go on, I'd really like to read it. I guess us being the luckiest means that Everton are the unluckiest? Dear oh dear.

My money's on Gary Barlow. After doing charity walks up Kilamanjaro, organising Children in Need concerts, Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert, Queen's Diamond Jubilee song (with Lloyd Webber), the management of England's football team will be a mere bagatelle (mark my words, Gary Barlow wants to take over the world...and he wants a knighthood by the time he's 50......you heard it here first).

I'd be inclined to be believe he's refering to Dalglish's transfer policy of bizarrely believing that signing British players is the way forward, similar to what he did 25 years ago when he signed Barnes/Beardsley/Houghton/Aldridge.
It worked then, but won't now, because football has moved on, and this is probably what the poster meant by Kenny being out of date.
As for Tuesday's derby, would an Everton win finally get even Kenny's loyalist followers questioning his future at the club??......(Not that I see it happening - It has a draw written all over it).
