Ferdinand is a quality player. He's just lacking fitness. Difficult to tell whether it is his back injury or lack of match practice that's causing him problems. He is still England's best centre-half

Who? Are you referring to John Terry, known for his inability to get punished for handball in the penalty area?

As a leader, Terry has no peers in the Prem. But IMO Terry is not in the same class as Ferdinand as a defender.

Depends what you class as a defender?

I class a defender as someone who'll throw the body is front of a shot and don't care if they get injured as long as they keep a clean sheet and if they do get injured they'll carry on. Someone who'll head anything.

I think of the likes of Terry, Vidic, Jagielka, Carragher.

Rio is more of a ball player and is good on the ball but is v.prone to thinking he's better than he is on the ball...you'll know all about that.

Hence why I think JT is better defender than Rio

I'll try to be brief becayse I try not to spend too much 'bigging up' United players.

A defender that is committed to the cause is an asset. However, that IMO is far from being the most important characteristic. Pace, speed of thought, aerial strength, anticipation, football intelligence and ability to distribute the ball effectively are all more important IMO. Ferdinand is better in most of those facets of the game than Vidic, Terry and Carragher.

Bravery and committment is probably more important in the Prem than in other leagues because of the nature of the football we play. With lots of balls coming high into the box and the game is played, in general, at a faster pace.

I would like to highlight that people underestimate Terry's distribution skills. He is actually a good passer of the ball. IMO Terry and Ferdinand complement each other.

Oh, I'm not sure, not too bothered if he is banned, he won't be a big miss. That said he has been playing well of late.

TBH I think Everton are either being dumb or they are playing dumb.

If the Belgian FA decide to invoke the 5 day rule then he won't be playing for Everton at the weekend. If they let the issue slide then he will.

I think that Gerrard and Rooney will be playing for their clubs because Capello will let the issue slide.

It'll suck for Everton, and it will be annoying to see them lose a player when Liverpool and Man Utd get away with this again, but that's the international rules coming into effect.
