| Quote ="Dita's Slot Meter"Oh, I listen to all the guff that the managers come out with when their sides are struggling....Tired squads and all that...
Just makes me laugh, that when Liverpool were dominating European football in the 70's and 80's and playing upto 70 games a year, you could practically name their first team, week in, week out....In fact, I still can now.
Same goes for other successful sides of that era, like Villa, Forest, Ipswich, Everton, etc.....All this 25 man squad thing is a complete cover-up for under performing managers....
'"
Are you Kenny Dalgleish? It's not 1987 anymore Dita. In those days players trained then had a fag and went down the pub for the afternoon. They played the match and if they were injured they got on with it. They didn't know what metartarsils or ligaments were.
I'm not particularly bothered about Everton having 25 quality players, them signing one who could sort out this seasons lack of goalscoring would be fun though.

If you can't see how football has developed since then, especially physically, you need help. Furthermore, if you can't understand how having a bigger squad - with different players providing different skills and styles - is better, then you obviously don't get the modern game.
I remember watching Everton play (I think it was last season) and the two biggest somebodies they had on their bench were Gosling and Yobo, other than that, your entire bench was reserve players which are, in today's game, basically academy players.
What doesn't make sense is when a manager signs players to have a big squad, but then persists with the same old same old every week.

Yes, I was being naive, but I was also raising the question of why clubs persist in putting themselves into huge debts, paying huge wages to guys who will do little more than jog up and down a touchline all season?
Saddened questioned Moyes' wisdom in selling Yakubu and Vaughan, yet if the 2 players aren't going to be utilised (which its obvious those 2 weren't), then it surely makes perfect sense, especially in today's precarious financial times, to get shut?
As for having a small bench?....Be serious, do you really need a 7 man bench??....I've always thought it was a bit of a joke. If you are going that far, you may as well have a full 11 on the bench, its ridiculous.

We're not scoring and he's loans one of the Premier Leagues most prolific goalscorers out. Vaughan has scored goals in the Championship and should obviously be in ahead of Anichebe who he doesn't play either, other than on the wing in away games.
Saha is made of toast and won't last a month and that leaves us with just Beckford.
Everton's squad is tiny, there is no room to be dropping numbers. What happens if they get 6 or 7 injuries as can happen from time to time?

To be fair, its been nearly 3 years since he was anywhere near prolific....I'm not saying that Moyes has been perfect in his handling of him, or that he won't at some point start hitting the net again, but for me, Yakubu has looked mainly disinterested recently.....He's the classic example of a player who gets a buzz from new surroundings, but once settled at a club, just becomes lazy.
As for Vaughan & Anichibe?.....Neither will ever be prolific at the highest level, but Victor does offer more as an all round player.....His second half performance at Anfield and his showing at City (before being red carded) highlight this.

Play him in a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 with a license to get forward and he could do very well for you. Play him in a 4-4-2 or in the hole in a 4-4-1-1 and it will end in tears.

considering - it was 'soft' and there can only have been the merest of touchs', it does seem fair.
I do realise that Berbatov going down under the merest of touches the other week was a 'dive' though.
But i think i am getting the picture of how it works.

Rejected and Liverpool are going back with another offer, according to Times journalist Tony Barrett (a good LFC source). I think he'd be a good addition. We're definately a CM light, Lucas and Meireles look shattered lately.

It may be ridiculous in your opinion but that's the way it is now, a 7 man bench and have you seen outs lately? it's so weak, full of inexperienced youngsters we can't afford injuries otherwise we're in big trouble, outside out first 14 or so players we are lacking quality, I agree you don't need a huge squad as it does cause problems, the problem our squad's really weak, we are desperate for quality in my opinion. We've lost Pienaar so now we are a creative player down and Arteta's been hit and miss all season so I'm getting quite concerned, I don't want to be scrounging around in the bottom half of the league but the way we are going we will be for a long time. It doesn't make any sense to send Yakubu out on loan or sell Pienaar if we don't replace them. Saha is injury prone and Beckford is still developing in this league, out midfield's been underperforming all season yet Moyes lets out two best in those positions, IMO, leave. Baffling.
Quote ="Robbie Rotten"Well you keep thinking that whilst your club scrap for mid-table and probably won't win a single thing, whilst those with big squads will forever try and compete on all fronts. I am highly disturbed if you can't fathom why clubs have deep squads.'"
To be honest the way things are looking and considering there's only one week of January left I'm getting really concerned about us now, it's not just about the squad size but the lack of quality. Look at our bench against you last week mate, so inexperienced and so weak. If we picked up even two or three injuries we've got kids to come in and that's it. We're scrambling around in the bottom half of the league and for a lot of this season we have been so so poor, disguised by some good results against the top five and a derby win in November. I can't believe Moyes has let Yakubu and Pienaar leave and, at the moment, there's no signs of replacements. It's a big worry.

I think its quite apparent that we are on our knees financially, and have been for a while....Even the odd splurge we used to have (Feillani, Billy, Yakubu ) isn't happening any more.
Whatever some people may think on the subject, the rejection of the Kirkby move was a huge nail in the Everton coffin as a competitive Premier League club.....Moyes is feeding on crumbs and releasing Pienaar, Yakubu, Vaughan is a neccessity to stay alive. I fully expect Rodwell to provide the next financial lifeline in the summer.
My main surprise is that Moyes continues to hang around.....Being so highly thought of, he wouldn't be short of decent offers and he is already quoted as saying he wouldn't hang around if our progress stalled, which in the last 18 months, it obviously has.
The only hope that I have, is that the last time we were this low, was when Rooney left, followed by a few of our stalwarts of the time, and at that point we looked pretty much doomed, yet with a couple of bargain buys (Cahill & Bent) we actually began our most successful era for a while, which, unfortunately, we haven't managed to build on due to a serious lack of investment.

Possibly more that he's the kind of player Liverpool are now able to attract.
Might not be world class, but he's got a very good brain and passing game. Judging by the post Blackpool game soundbites I think we're finally at the stage where Liverpool fans realising that they are currently a lower-midtable team and there isn't a quick fix available. I just think it's a bit sad that they needed the return of the messiah before they'd admit it. Hodgson was the right man for the job that needed to be done IMO, it was just that few were prepared to admit that.

I'm not a Liverpool fan and I'm not comparing Adam and Alonso. I'm saying he can play that role for LFC, by that I mean a midefielder who can pick a pass and control the pace of the game, something LFC don't have at the moment. Which means Gerrard and Torres getting good ball early and often. Please try to use you brain before posting mate.
