Personally I couldn’t give a flying shoite what they say.
I’m very happy with the renaming and once again the club is emphasising the importance of the local community.
Made my day this.

| Not really sure how they expected someone to buy out the club and leave the stadium named after a previous owner. Then touting the man as the saviour of Wigan football for all the things he did right they seem to forget he also stripped the club of their best players and handed the reigns over to his nephew who had no clue

| Really like this, it is great to see us supporting a brilliant local charity such as The Brick. With this now, along with the Charity shirt and all the stuff the players do with them, it seems like we have a really good relationship going with The Brick.
Even if 1-2 years time if we make a new partnership for the stadium name, i would like to see one of the stands be named after The Brick to keep the support going.

| My first thoughts were that everyone would be on board with this, even the empty headed element of Latics fans but I was massively wrong. I had a browse around social media and on the fans forum and the usual suspects are up in arms and even some of the more sensible ones aren't chuffed. As I always say, I support both clubs, so I don't say this from a biased point of view but an element of Wigan Athletic fans are an embarrassment. To think you could be that bitter about the rugby club that you would find fault in both clubs helping support a charity that is trying to help people in your own town is pretty staggering. If they'd rather keep it named after a out of business sports shop, pushed on the clubs by their former owner, you wonder if they'll accept anything that Danson and co do.

The good news is that they won't have any choice in the matter. Though they can choose to go and support someone else, which would be a blessing on the whole town.

| Yeah I've seen a few of them seeing their ar$e over it. Whelan delivered them Premier League football and an FA Cup so you can understand them wanting to maintain his legacy to an extent. Times change though, he's not the owner, and he hasn't coughed up any coin since he sold them to dodgy owners, not even when they nearly folded twice. IMO it is time to move on. They can keep his statue.
I imagine the bitterest of the Tickles will never come round to any arrangement that doesn't see them as top dog in town. Plenty others, hopefully the majority, are more reasonable and will move past this pretty quickly and appreciate the stability Danson is offering them

| To put it bluntly - F Dave Whelan. Imo, no one man has done more to divide this town.
Like when Thatcher died, there will be a lot of happy people on the day he goes.

| Over on Latics speyk the regular knuckledraggers didnt seem to appreciate me pointing out that no longer having the stadium named after someone with an FA Conviction for racism and who had flogged the club to some chinese money launderers and started the slide into bankruptcy was a good thing.

| If only we could take the statue down of the meglomaniac Whelan and replace it with Billy Boston,Game,Set and Match I would think.
Speaking to a almost sensible Tics fan he said that the Tics were 3 days from going under when Danson bought them and they should be grateful that he did,as he was.
I am not against Latics as I have 0% interest in them but to be truthful I wish they were not in our Stadium the way they carry on with their spiteful behaviour.

Oh you mean that Paul Kendrick the well known Latics fan who writes endless columns about Tics and not so much about RL.
Danson owns the lot and is a RL fan first .

| Who owns the stadium isn't a major concern and never was for me. All I want is for both clubs to have a fair crack at things and that clearly looks to be the case now. The rugby club can access it for training days and the womens team have now played a game there. The Penrith game was accommodated by Latics moving their fixture and that was long over due. On the flip side I would hope the rugby club limit training on it in the winter months, to try and limit damage to it and there is just common sense on both sides when it comes to fixtures. I am sure there will be, as the people running the clubs seem to be one and the same in truth (as in the ones who sit above managers, coaches, football directors etc).

Im with you on this Jason i would think he bought the ground and the Latics together .If it belonged solely to the Latics why would they have let them put up the Giant logos for Rugby and Latics at the front of stadium

Thats my thinking aswell, since he took over womans RL have played on it,tics moved a game to accommodate Wigan v Penrith, new banner in place, things have changed for the good of the Warriors all this says to me he owns the Stadium and he owns Wigan Warriors he also owns a very good pub team (tics) and he has all the power and is a RL fan, if he isnt a Warriors fan he has a funny way of showing it.

It’s not your stadium though. You rent it. Also do you think the latics would be forced to play 9 of their first 12 games away from home? Of course not

As a lot of times you are wrong ,you can include this aswell, of course we own Danson owns us and Latics and the stadium by definition he owns the lot and is a Rugby man so leans towards the Warriors hence why he changed the banner thats why he had the womens team playing on the pitch thats why he has changed the stadium name, thats why Latics dislike whats happening as they dont have the upper hand anymore. He bought Latics to save them (and they begged him and the local MP )he bought the warriors because he wanted them same outcome different reasons.
Re-the pitch it needs to be relaid and as it is the growing season it is the best time,if Whelan hadnt built the stadium on a swamp this wouldnt happen.Who knows he could well sort the drainage out over time.
