A controversial figure in many respects but a man whose leadership took the club to ridiculous heights during parts of hos tenure.

Probably the man responsible for dragging the game into the professional era.

Didn’t get everything right but a fearless administrator who was Wigan to his very core.

One of the most pivotal figures in the club's history. Very sad news.

Agreed. And I sometimes wonder where the sport would be now if his original plan for superleague had been accepted, as controversial as it was.

On a personal note, he was responsible for assembling a team that played some of most amazing rugby I ever saw in my life - and for that, I'll always be grateful.

RIP uncle Mo

An extraordinary visionary who gave us the greatest 10-15 of our lives. Despite not being to everyones taste he delivered time and time again (not just at Wigan). I think back to that World Cup in the early nineties and the ticket sales were through the roof for the vast majority of the games.

It's a real pity he's passed, I was hoping that Rads would have interviewed him this year as he has done other legends.

Let's hope Maurice is watching over us at Tottenham and can guide us to a win.

Really sad news. If I think through life and about my happiest memories as a child, they were going to Wembley with family or down to Central Park to watch that star studded team and he was the main figure in making all that possible. He was too ambitious for Rugby League in many ways but I wish he had been 40 years younger this past decade.

Very sad news. During his time at the helm our team set records that I don’t think will ever be matched. Mr Lindsay’s efforts meant so much to those of us who had endured supporting the club in the late 60s, 70s and early 80s. Thanks Maurice.

One of the true visionaries of our game at both club and more importantly international level. Who would have thought we could fill Central Park V PNG or OLD Trafford and Wembley for International games.

I remember speaking to him after that 1st game in Perpignan, and I said to him "We need a #6"
His reply "We've got a good un but it's next season"
Sure enough Trent Barrett arrived the following year.

R.I.P. Maurice

I used to see him at games home and away before he was revealed as the leader of a four man “ginger” consortium that wanted to take control of the club. Up until then I just thought he was a corporate sponsor. I also met him once and (although I was quite inebriated at the time) thanked him for all that he had done for the club. A truly great character who changed the course of Wigan RL and rugby league in general for ever.

The man who brought many of us 40 odd years olds some great memories and happy childhoods memories down at Central Park. R.I.P Our Maurice!!!

Great news on that score. They’ve just put an interview with him on the site that Rads did recently. It was to be released for the 150th anniversary celebrations but it’s been put on early.

Looking forward to watching it.

Just watched it. Very good interview Maurice had wigan rugby in his blood!

The man responsible for my love of Wigan RL. Growing up in the 90s and witnessing the magnificence of our rugby team. Will be forever missed in my eyes. If ever there was a reason to go and win the challenge cup this is it. He delivered us 8 on the bounce. Go and get the 2022 edition for him.

For anybody interested. The 'Up and Under' episodes from the early 90's are on YouTube. Shows the backroom negotiations of how we signed Offiah and Gene Miles etc. 6 episodes in all.all worth the watch.

He led us out of the doldrums into the greatest sustained period of glory that any RL club has ever enjoyed. I was a shareholder in the club when one day a man who I had never met knocked on my door introduced himself and asked for my proxy vote in support of his attempt to get elected to the board. That man was Maurice. I explained that it was not my practice to give up my vote but invited him in for a chat. He told me of his vision for the club and when he left he had my proxy in his possession. RIP Maurice and thanks for the memories.

Just watched the interview, what a wonderful tribute we have now to treasure going forward. It was quite an emotional watch, its clear that Maurice is in very poor health and struggled a little at times with his memory but was still extremely passionate and proud about his time at the club.

The word 'Legend' at Wigan is bandied around with frequency these days, quite rightly as we've had countless to choose from, but I think it's only right that Maurice is placed right at the very top of such a prestigious list, sat on a throne with a crown on his head.
Also would like to thank the club for taking time out to interview Maurice, it was great to listen to his memories and thoughts. I'm also glad Rads didn't shy away from asking Maurice about a couple of controversial subjects namely the loss of Central Park and the comments made about the football club in the 80's.

Rest easy Maurice, you really did give us the best years of our lives.

I've just watched the interview with him. Quite an emotional watch and I'm glad Rads thanked him at the end of the interview for everything he'd done. I'd like to think that thanks was on behalf of all of us. The memories of that era and the life experiences were so strong that they don't feel long ago at all.

On a side note I was living down south when he moved to the role at the RFL. The profile of the whole sport was so much higher then and ripple effects were the southern conference leagues and the strength to take internationals to Wembley knowing that the crowds would follow. It was rare to speak to someone who wasn't aware of the household names in the sport or about Wigans success. When you look at Nigel Wood and Ralph Rimmer leading the sport through the last decade compared to a visionary like Maurice you realise just how far away we have fallen.

Always remember uncle Mo giving as good as he got from the Aussies,never backed down in what he believed.
Wigan to the core,brought a fantastic era for a Wigan fan,will be missed.

These are my thoughts too.

The single most important person related to Wigan and has no peer imo. That's not taking away from anyone else's achievements, or records - it's just anyone of my generation grew up watching the greatest RL side of all time.

There's a great section of the fan base that owe many a happy memory to his drive and vision to make Wigan be the best RL side in the world.
