Adrian Lam has named the Wigan Warriors squad to face St Helens in Round 13 of the Betfred Super League this Sunday.
The two old rivals will meet for the first time in 2021 when the Warriors make the short journey to the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Team news
Prop Brad Singleton is available and returns to the squad after serving the second game of his two-match ban (Grade C) on Thursday.

Tony Clubb will serve the eighth of an eight-match ban for a Grade F charge (Unacceptable language based on national or ethnic origin).

Injury news
Forward Morgan Smithies misses out after leaving the field against Warrington in Round 12 with an ankle injury.

Second row John Bateman is an absentee this week after suffering an ankle injury last week when on international duty with England.

Zak Hardaker misses out with a neck injury which also kept him out of action on Wednesday against Warrington.

Dom Manfredi remains side-lined with a knee injury.

Jai Field continues recovery for a torn hamstring suffered in Round 1 against Leigh Centurions.

Full back Bevan French remains out of action as he recovers from a torn hamstring also.

Bryne looks to be playing with an injury at the minute so Clark in.

We have to get Hastings back in the halves, as much as Ive thought Hanley has struggled on the wing, would like to see him in his preferred position.

Smith looks like he needs to drop down to the bench.

Think this side could keep it relatively close.

Hastings needs to play in his normal position. Hanley probably needs a run at fullback. By now my expectations have been dialled back to nil so I hope that we can cut him some slack. He is going to make mistakes at this point in his development but I can guarantee that more senior players will do much worse. The issue will be his ability to compete against some big Saints players who are adept at picking the pockets of more established players. Let him get things wrong without slaughtering him for it.

Hopefully when it comes to selection time for the World Cup these players wont be considered.

Why would both the players go along with it? Lomax especially isn't a shoe in for the squad. Walmsley is 3rd choice and behind Thompson and Burgess. Again why would he risk it?

If we are going to get a good hiding let’s do do it with a bit grunt rather than hiding from our inadequacies. I’m fully expecting a loss by over 30 points but I’d take that before forsaking a game to any side particularly Saints.

An extreme long shot but a proper drubbing may just tip IL over the edge and bullet Lam. I doubt it but I can live in hope.

We’ll never know but is suspect part of it was Wane not wanting to risk a St Helens player as if the played and aggravated something then he’d be accused of trying to help Wigan.

I think it's just common sense.

I'll happily slate them for the lack of representation in the Exiles squad and truly believe that there's no smoke without fire i.e some clubs didn't want the match and didn't want to release players. It's not a long stretch to put that at the feet of saints, simply because of the amount of quality imports they have.

I'm not however buying into the England conspiracy. Wane wouldn't stand for it and would have made it known and why would Dr Brooks go along with it too? It's too tin foil hat for me.

I understand (to a point) the frustration about no Saints players being in the All Stars team but this England stuff is just crazy talk it really is. Lomax and Walmsley would have both wanted to play in that game and Saints wouldn’t have stopped them had they been fit. Otherwise we’d have stopped Makinson and Knowles playing too (Welsby in squad also).

To go on and suggest there should be punishment for Lomax and Walmsley is one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever read on these forums.

100% agree. I let off steam over it but my main gripe was always the All Stars team and the lack of Saints players. Really poor IMO but it’s been and gone.
