Quote ="MattyB"IL has raised possibilities of music concerts/festivals to take place at Robin Park Arena.
A good way of bringing in new revenue it would seem following on from successful concerts at LSV over the last few years.

I wonder what class of act could be enticed to play in Wigan. It has been a long time since a world class act played here without being from Wigan, possibly The Grateful Dead in 1972 but that was in Bickershaw.

I was in a push chair so I have no recollection but the Dead CD is amazing. But who would have thought that Wigan would recreate Woodstock?

| What would the capacity of The RPA be and what calibre of talent would they look to employ. Should other local internationally acclaimed music venues, such as Parbold Village Hall, be worried?

| I know that this is one of those season not kicked off yet threads but I am fascinated by the possibility that more and better acts could be performing locally. Take my point about Parbold Village Hall, some of you on here will know that it regularly hosts some of the finest classical performers in the world. It is not unusual for an internationally acclaimed instrumentalist to play Carnegie in New York, La Scala in Milan and play Parbold before moving on The Royal Albert Hall. It is all about getting the right performers to want to appear. I am not sure what the vision is for Robin Park but I imagine that the promoters will be lining up the Cheeky Girls as we speak.

| I'm sure the likes of James, Echo and the Bunnymen, Charlatans, the Doves, the Coral could be enticed. All local, not stadium fillers but big enough to get people interested.

| I’ve seen The Kinks, Roy Orbison, Stevie Wonder and others at the Ritz Cinema and Lulu and Manfredi Mann at the Casino. Oh, yes, and Julian and the Trolls at the Room at the Top.
Those were the days! But I’ve never seen Mary Hopkins.

| Test the water with the up and coming Wigan band ‘The Lathums’. They’re bloody brilliant and it would be a huge step up for them on their way to the top

Just had a listen to them and thought they sounded like another generic mancunian style band, IMO, But I do agree with giving them a step up on their way, Maybe the club could put on a night where they have them and 2 or 3 local bands playing

Each to their own, try ‘The Great Escape’ (the song by The Lathums, not the film ).
They are getting some building local support, and a little plug or push from us would go far IMO and may even attract new fans
