Bills commentary is about as dull as the weather we are currently experiencing, not helped by the dull tones of Barry and Terry at his side. As biased and annoying as Eddie was, at least he had excitement in his voice and was easy to listen to and Stevo also added excitement and a bit of banter. What a truly awful commentary team we've been left with.

Its not just Bill though is it? Barry and Terry are also dull and boring. All they do is say every player is tough, theres no proper in depth analysis on the replays after a try is scored because none of them are clever enough to break down an attacking move. The whole set up is terrible.

You’re right. I think Carney and Wells are good enough in the presentation and I’m not overly against Phil Clarke but they need a new lead man and somebody else to offer their opinions on the commentary alongside a top man.

The old Barrie and Terry comedy duo has always been rubbish. I don’t mind Barrie too much tbh but O’Connor is truly dreadful. He’s a funny bloke in real life but he’s never seemed to be able to get that across on TV.

Yeah Carney and Wells are fairly good in the studio and at the screen. Steve Simms used to do really good post try analysis for BBC CC matches in the 90s, he made it really exciting and i dont think hes that old.

I watched the game to half time just before I went to bed,yes I slept very well,he’s awful he really is I only hope Sky patch Dave Woods from the BBC,but I suppose why bother if Sky is not interested in RL long term?

I'm glad the bore fest of listening to every tackle being dissected as to whether a penalty should be awarded, has gone with MS and EH.

I appreciate it's a TV commentary not radio, but I wish the Sky crew in general would tell us who has the ball, who passed to who, etc, a lot more. Do they expect the viewer to just know? Even viewers familiar with the team can't always recognise players. With our stupid gold lettering on the shirts, I struggle to identify Wigan players sometimes, so how would I be able to tell Salford or HKR players? I'm not saying they should recite the name of every single player who touches the ball, but it's annoying when a player makes a break, say, and the commentators are still droning on about some previous incident or some anecdote completely unrelated to the game.

Once again, the Aussie commentators are much better in this regard.

Perhaps they should go around some of the local radio stations to listen to their commentators.
As most things they can go from one extreme to the other but the best a very good indeed.
Not just RL commentators either. A lot of them have a good knowledge of most sports.

Craig Murdock does a good job on Radio Humber, I think this would be the way to go for Sky. Get rid of the current lot and have 2 commentators, 1 being a trained sports commentator with experience on radio preferably with rugby league and an ex player to give an insight into what the players may be thinking or reasons why they did something.

I hope Sky go for Wilkin when he finishes playing, he does talk sense most of the time.

For me, anyone is preferable to Eddie Hemmings.

The guy was always disgracefully imbalanced (and his love-affair with St Helens was frankly embarrassing).

I've never known any other commentator that caused people to turn the volume on their TV down and the volume on their radio coverage up.

I agree about Craig Murdock.. he does an excellent commentary, and I always listen to the BBC Humberside feed if I cant get to either of the Hull grounds.
No way use Joe whats-his-name from Wish FM. 10% game commentary as to whats going on, the rest of the time just drivel and tweets from fans.

Murdock, Wilkin and Shenton are very good speakers about the game but they are summerisers not commentators.

SKY need to look at regular sports journalists/commentators from radio and tv. SKY pay very well, can demand and should get quality. There's plenty around.
I like Joe Mills, he's on local radio and when nothing is happening he talks local matters. A national broadcaster would have someone who could be versatile and talk both local, the whole sport and national.
That's what SKY need IMO, whether it's Joe Mills or someone else who knows.

I don't think we have ever had a decent commentator - ever ? Going back to Eddie Waring and then Ray French with his "bullocking runs".

Stephenson was Yorkshire biased in my opinion, but you could tell he really loved the game. Hemmings was just 'shunted in' and he knew nowt about the game when he first started.

Since then SKY have 'dumbed down' with the commentators. 'Tez and Baz' dear oh dear .

They could do away with them for me........just let me listen to the crowd when viewing.

I heard him on there last year, unless they got his name wrong all afternoon

I watch all NRL games and during the game use the mute button on all matches except those where Andrew Voss commentates, providing Greg Alexander or Micheal Ennis are not assisting him!
