| There appears to be talk of appointing Tony Smith to work alongside Lammy as a Director of Rugby. If the club are serious about this decision I think a better appointment would be Tim Sheens. His contract at KR ends this season. Thoughts anyone.

| I heard Smith’s role would be assistant coach which at first made me cringe. I thought about it for a bit and with Lammy’s enthusiasm and recent NRL coaching experience, Smith’s experiences in SL at different clubs added to Lockers to maintain and raise the bar on culture and standards off the field, it might not be a bad fit.
Regardless of anything, resources and recruitment will be the biggest factor in whether or not we succeed.

| Agree that recruitment is the first priority or at least it should be. We need a real high class replacement for Williams, at least two props and maybe a new hooker at the very least (maybe more if anyone else leaves such as Gildart).
Give Lam a well balanced squad to work with as a first priority before looking at anything else.

It might make you cringe but that’s fair enough as you know nothing. You would rather have Lam who has taken the super league champions to relegation fodder in around 3 months. If I was Smith I would turn you down as he could do much better than a bottom 3 team lol

I assume you’re on about Lockers and if so, yes that’s right. Mullen choosing to drink and drive, Hamlin testing positive for banned substances is all down to Lockers (note the sarcasm)!
If for no other reason like his influence and leadership, he gets a coaching role because he’s contracted to it.

| As far as Tony Smith joining to be Director of Rugby is concerned, isn't that Kris Radlinski's job? His official title is 'Rugby Director'. What would that job be if not 'director of rugby'?
Assuming Radlinski's role isn't going to change the last thing we need is another cook to spoil the broth and go over the head of the coach.
If Lam is the right man for the job he won't need someone else to be brought in to work alongside him, he'll just work as our previous coaches have done. If the club don't think he can succeed then they should bring in someone who they think can.

Agreed, the only way a director of rugby would works as if Rads leaves his role after all he brings the players in etc as we know.

When Waney was coach everyone was screaming to bring in an attack coach, I think the opposite applies now I would like to see Waney come back as assistant to AL purely as a defence coach. Don't think for one minute he would accept that if offered to him though.

I’m not sure I could disagree with that last paragraph any more than I do.
Every club, in every sport changes their head coach at some point. In the vast majority of cases, they build a team around them according to their strengths. Shaun Wane had Deacon and Harris to help improve our attack. He brought in Charlie Hodgson to improve our kicking etc.
I have no doubts that Lammy is the right man to lead us from the top and part of that is trusting him to build the coaching team as well as the paying team.
Using your philosophy, no club would ever need assistant coaches!

| I don’t think a director of rugby would be a slight on Lam, it would more be a pointer to the work Kris Rads is doing on recruitment and retention, as that is surely a role any director of rugby would take on. I’ve said above that our first job has to be to look at our recruitment for 2020, because as things stand the squad looks like it could be in a shambolic state for next season unless major moves are made and things like retirements are put to bed soon (and not at the end of the year).
Maybe they want a director of rugby to work on that now but if they do then they need to get him in pronto.

What an idiot!
On the Smith discussion we don’t need him.
We just need a good coach. Wether it be Lam I’m not sure.
If we win today we are 4 points off top 4. We the injuries and off field issues has Lam done such a bad job?

You really need to stop this pathetic trolling, mate.
The fact that Saints fans were nowhere in sight on here until Wigan started losing only makes you look more of a berk.

| Instead of p***ing about hiring a director of rugby or a defence coach why don’t they spend that money where we really need it, which is on players, forwards especially.

Or maybe a marketing director who would actually get us more fans and revenue to spend on players?

Well, yeah, but I don't see why we should need to go to the expense of hiring someone new for that; it ought to be the responsibility of someone already at the club.

The guy responsible left the club and replaced by someone I believe with nominal experience of heading up a marketing department as well as his other role in the club. Part of the cutbacks at the club together with reducing the playing wage bill

This is something I’d posted about but other posters will have us believe otherwise. Just because we may hire more back room staff doesn’t mean they work better. I saw an advert in Springfield just past ProCo as if you were driving up to the Brick Makers arms, the big billboard had 3 red faces and 3 blue faces saying ‘The Derby Is Coming’. Now I’m a massive Game of Thrones fan and I only just about got what they were getting at and could t make out who the faces were, especially driving past. Massive waste of money by someone who is unskilled, unqualified and unsuitable for the marketing role of the biggest rugby league club in the world. We are going backwards.

Do you know this for a fact, or are you just hooting like a kettle?
This is a genuine question, because I feel there is a lot of hooting going on at present in various quarters.
Lots of people on here claim to know stuff. It's difficult to work out who does and who doesn't, but until proof is offered I'd council browsers against taking every bit of bad news they see on here as gospel. Too many of them do.

Give over Throbber
Example of Jobs for the boys
Lam - The jury's still out
Edwards - What a fiasco
Radlinski - out of his depth
Johnson - look at the state of our fitness
Betts - least said the better
Add to that several players that should have been let go at some point but for some reason get nice shiny new contracts
He should only get a coaching role if he can prove himself, Not because he was one a great player (2009-2016)
If this club is to move on then it needs to sever ties with former players and only bring in the best qualified persons for those jobs,
You need to take of those tinted spectacles fella
