Super League XX - A Mouth-Watering ProspectWe are just over twenty-four hours from the start of a re-structured Superleague XX, and just over forty-eight hours from rough diamond Todd Carneys much anticipated full debut for the Catalans Dragons at St Helens in what looks one of the most mouth-watering (if you’ll excuse the pun) fixtures of the opening weekend.
Wigan will get us underway with their visit to the Widnes Vikings while the Champions Saints will entertain in the season’s first Friday night fixture.
Some sides will be unrecognisable this year with playing staff turnover being at an all-time high as the sides administrators and coaches tussle with the new format and their desperation to make the top eight after the first phases of matches.

Well for me both games so far have been scrappy affairs with little quality #notfooledbyrebranding

First round games always tend to be scrappy. The players are still getting the rust out and the weather never helps with the pitches being heavy.
I can't be sure but I'd like to think the new format helped Widnes and even Catalans to hang in there and keep fighting in the face of adversity. Last year I get the feeling they both may have just thrown the towel in.

I'm far more bothered about losing a point to Widnes than I would have been last season. We need to pick things up and get ourselves into the top 2 asap to make sure we are comfortably in the top 4 at the end of the season. Last year I wouldn't be that bothered as we're sure to make the 8
