| You can't say the lad lacks effort can you?
Thought he really put himself about in a beaten team tonight and really took some stopping against an often dominant Leeds defence.
Deserves some real game time now imo.

| Best player in a well-beaten team. Showed our forwards how to play, but lacks out and out pace...

| Wane needs to stop messing around and let him play left centre for an extended period. His footwork is brilliant at times.

| Yep. Gelling needs to play left centre and Sarginson needs to play wing.
Sarginson has the pace Gelling lacks for the wing, and Gelling has the defence Sarginson lacks at centre.
But Gelling was very good tonight. My grandad is one of his biggest critics, and even he said the lad had a fair game tonight.

| gelling looked by far your best back tonight.everytime he got the ball he sèemed to make good yards and made a couple of breaks.have to admit I thought he was a mug and I was glad to see his name on team sheet.should get more game time on back of that performance though.

| A great effort from Gelling while the rest of the side, bar McIlorum, were incredibly disappointing. Once again though he showed that he is not a winger and never will be. His lack of pace would have been embarrassing for a winger. He's a centre based on his performances at Wigan and given Sarginson's dreadful defence tonight he should be given some more games there.
I can see why Wane made the switch - Sarginson isn't good dealing with cross field kicks and would have been targeted with Hall on that side, but in the end it didn't make much of a difference.

| Some numpty at the side of me criticised him all night for showing a lack of pace that a winger should be embarrassed of. He seemed to ignore the fact that the blokes never a winger (and so does Wane come to think of it).
He has to play centre next week. Sarginson isn't looking for his wingman at all and can do exactly the job he did last night from the wing, taking people on with his footwork.

| He was awesome last night. Our best player by miles, with regards to people saying play him at centre, he played at centre vs Hunslet and was terrible. I would try him at second row. If he is going to make it at Wigan that is where it will be.

As a very mobile second row who can tackle hard and make ground would be my view too...

I would go with that if he shows the same desire as last night he could be a revelation in the 2nd Row

| One thing is for sure he's not a winger. Its starting to get really frustrating watching him play there time and time again. It just adds fuel to those who aren't willing to give him a chance.
The debate between or 2nd row is an interesting one. I still think he has a lot to offer at as his power draws defenders to him and he's got that ability to look for the pass and put his winger in space.
I like the idea of him at 2nd row as well. He could easily turn into a bustling Hock type player who size and mobility out wide has devastating potential.
We are struggling at and we are struggling at 2nd row imo. Why he's not been given a run of games in either of those spots is beyond me.

That's phenomenal! Moreso given that we were on the back foot for much of that game so few, if any, would have been easy metres!

| Do we really need him as much at SR as we do at Centre though? We have Bateman, Farrell and Lockers in the back row and Clubb on the bench which is the best back row in the league IMO. At centre we have Goulding who is alright but Sarginson isn't good enough defensively for centre at present IMO and there are no other options bar Gelling. Bateman at centre and Gelling at SR is an option of course but it's a fair bit of messing about given that they both have little experience in those positions.

I think either option is worth trying. For what it's worth though, I really feel Bateman could develop into an outstanding centre and it has to be worth giving him a run there. Sure, it will take him time to adapt (although he slotted in very well on Good Friday!) but I think the long term benefits will outweigh the short term mistakes. I also feel that, again given a run, Gelling could turn into a Gareth Hock style blockbusting 2nd row. He's immensely strong, fast (for a second row), has great feet and can offload in the tightest of situations. He was also pretty much error free last night so, hopefully, he's been working on that side of his game too.
If SW doesn't see Bateman in the centres then he MUST give Gelling a run of games there. Thornley is out for the season and Sarginson isn't there defensively yet. That could cost us in the bigger games and we need to find the solution in the coming weeks while we can still afford to lose.

| Gelling played centre v Hunslet and apparently was awful.
He then played the following week and he was our best player.
That tells me to give him an extended run, in the backs.
Although he was wing last night I'm pretty sure that he went centre late on and Goulding went to wing. Perhaps Daz got a knock?
He was against Moon and Hall who everyone is drooling over yet they found it very difficult coping with him and AG's stats are very impressive, 269 meters made with 10 tackle busts far more than anyone else on the field.
I'd play him at left centre.
After that performance he has to be given a centre spot.

I don't recall him being awful v Hunslet tbh and I've only seen one person express that view (FIOS in two separate threads). He never got the ball in space but he nearly broke the tackle a few times and did nothing wrong defensively. Only negative thing I noticed from him was one knock on

| He was poor against Hunslet for sure making a few errors but he certainly wasn't in the minority.
He deserves a crack in a position other then the wing over a sustained period. If that's centre or second row I'm not really fussed but keep sticking him out there when we have other options is strange IMO. I felt a bit for Dom Manfredi on Friday who I thought was going to get a run of games?!

| Manfredi should come back in the team for the next game with Gelling to LC and Sarginson dropped. He shouldn't play centre again until he learns how to defend.

| I'd go with that although Charnley is also meant to be pretty close. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd love to see Charnley get a go at centre to add some pace and a real attacking threat in there.
Hull away or Leeds may not be the game to try this but when we get chance I'd love for us to have a look at-
Bowen
Manfredi
Gelling
Charnley
Burgess
That's a backline full of pace and power. I'm not saying it's one to keep for each and every game but I'd love to have a look at it.

| At the presser for the Leeds game Waney said that Josh had run for the first time that day and was a couple of weeks off. Whether he returns for the Leeds game I don't know. He also said Ben Flower was two weeks away.
Agree with the feelings that Manfredi should come in at Hull.
I'd go for that game with Bowen, Manfredi, Goulding, Gelling and Burgess.
Also I'd be tempted to go with Williams at 7 and Green 6 with Smith rested.
Powell would be my back interchage.
I do think SW will bring in some changes after that loss at Leeds.
