| Take a bow young man.
Another excellent performance. He has taken on a great challenge in replacing Pat Richards and fantastically well. It's not just his catching and running but his leg drive in the tackle. To think he is only 19 years of age, that today was a very mature performance.

| Must agree. He deserves his own thread. He grew as the game went on. I thought he had a few great defensive efforts too which if rare from young wingers.
I hope we can keep him as there will no doubt be interest from Union/NRL

| For all the try's and assists he must have this year, the thing that impresses me above all else is his willingness to get stuck in defensively. He's aggressive and really puts himself about.
It's an incredible start to his first team career.

| He reminds me of Charnley in that he's taken to SL like a duck to water.
In an ideal world we'd have both of them playing in cherry and white for seasons to come.

| Started the season in top form and has simply built from that! I'd say a top prospect if it weren't for the fact that he already looks the part! I understand he has an excellent attitude to training and a tremendous desire to improve. Difficult to see anything other than an outstanding future for this young fella!

| On a side note it's pleasing to see that England have gone from having Calderwood and Gardner playing in a World Cup 6 years back to having Hall, Charnley, Briscoe, Makinson, Burgess, Swift, Lineham, BJB and one or two others to choose from!
Some turnaround.

| He's class. Makes me laugh all the people slagging IL and co off for not signing a replacement for Richards! Likely the same people who will call them rotten when Hampshire and Powell replace Bowen and Green

| Great to see the young ones going so well. However me and the missus were just talking about the season that we were beaten 75-0 when we threw all the young ones in at the same time and probably destroyed some promising careers when we had to go out and buy and in so doing blocked the progression of some of those youngsters. I love to see locals come through and I am impressed at how it is being managed. I just hope that we can hold on to them long enough for them to mature with us.

I think I have always been able to recognise potential in a young player during my nearly 60 years of watching Wigan ,I first watched Burgess in the 9s a couple of years ago and even then you could see the confidence in his own ability which coupled with his pace made him stand out.
But what I noticed then and am still seeing now is the ability to do the simple things right, all good players make a mistake from time to time but never seem to panic.
Wigan have had players who could be great one minute and then commit an howler of a mistake the next, David Hodgson was a player who could go the length of the field and then the next minute drop a simple ball or miss a tackle even though not under pressure.
But Grimmy I beg to differ in your comment that Hampshire will replace Bowen. Hampshire could set the league alight as a standoff.
Just an opinion, but I will stick by it.

| Burgess could possibly become the best winger in English RL over the next few years.
If he can keep his pace and agility as he physically matures, he could be anything because he is not just an athlete but actually a really smart player.

| On a future England team thread on the Vt i said that Joe burgess will be picked in front of Charnley and Briscoe but got accused of being biased. He has the ability to become a isreal Falou talent, just got to work his socks off.

| A brilliant first 10 games. What I've been most impressed with is when our line is broken down our right (opposite side to Joe) he instantly races across that to that side to help Bowen out and save a try.
The three things I want in a winger, safe under the high ball, good kick returner and a good finisher. This guy is all this and more.
Wouldn't it be brilliant if Charnley and Burgess were our wingers for the next 10 years? But I'm afraid the NRL will come calling soon enough
