| Would like to hear peoples views on our form lets be honest it has dipped with all what's going on (resting players).Anyway i actually think we hit the ground running at the start of the season better than other teams and come middle-end of season other teams are starting to peak.Or is it we have just dipped a little? Thoughts please?

| I think losing Lockers and resting Sam has hurt our form, now our form is poor it might not be as easy as just bringing them back, but that remains to be seen. Next week will be a massive gauge if we play a full strength team

| We've not been firing properly since the Warrington game. I mentioned on another thread that we did the same last season. We started like a house on fire but fizzled out towards the business end. This time our form has dropped but we have gone a step further in the cup and have Wembley to look forward to. It'll be interesting to see how we go against Huddersfield and in the play offs. Our big players have not played as much rugby this year and fizzling out should not be an issue.

| I think our fixtures have been quite skewed this season. Up until the end of June, we'd only played 4 "big" games (Wire Home, Leeds Away, Sts Home and Leeds Magic) and got 2 wins, a draw and a defeat. We'd not really struggled in the cup, so until that Wire away game hadn't really tested ourselves against the top teams (I know we played Hudds away at the start of the season too, but I discounted that as we didn't expect Hudds to hold on as well as they have done to top spot).
From now until the end of the season there are no more 'gimmie' games. Hudds, a gruelling trip to France, Hull twice on the spin and Leeds potentially times on the spin, plus hopefully a grand final as well, possibly against Wire.
Yes, our form has taken a hit recently, but if it means our players are fresh for the toughest end of season we've seen probably since the 'mission impossible' season, then Wane and his coaching staff will certainly have earned their crust.

| If we don't win anything this year, it will be interesting to see how we rationalise it.
Last year we reckoned that it was because we'd burned out. If we burn out in 2013, there's something seriously wrong with our fitness, because plenty of our key players have had a chance to rest.
Hopefully it won't be an issue come the season's end, but if it is, I'll be fascinated to see how we respond to Shaun Wane not winning anything in 2012 because he didn't rest any players and Shaun Wane not winning anything in 2013 because he rested too many.

I'd be surprised if Wane's contract was renewed if we didn't win the cup final. I'm not trying to say Hull FC are a bad side but for me it would be a big game loss too many when you combine it with both Leeds semis last year. It's commendable that we're consistent but at the end of the day we all know both competitions are settled by who can win knock out games against the top sides. The current squad on paper should be capable of doing that, if they keep failing to do that under Wane then we ought to look at other options.

| Grimmy, don't write FC off. We ran you close at our place ( hell of a lot closer than the dobbins did lol). Showed Warrington we can fight back and after a short turnaround put 72 points past Widnes. It'll be a good final, probably closer than many people think.

To be honest, if Wigan sacked Shaun Wane because we'd 'only' reached the Challenge Cup Final and finished 2nd in the league, I'm not sure how many others would be queuing up to take the job. Talk about a poison chalice.
I agree that if he wins at Wembley his position is probably secure for the time being, but it would be a hell of a message to send out - coaches are only safe here if we win the Cup.
Course, this could all be academic. If we lose the Cup, there is a still a chance in the play-offs. That may be more important in IFL's eyes.

and if he does win something this year is it down to resting or not resting players? Sounds easy this coaching lark all I have to do is learn when to rest players

| It just shows the league is totally irrelevant now. For me that is the no 1 reason for declining attendances. Nobody even takes any notice on how you are doing in the league these days.

I'm not sure they'd agree with that in Huddersfield.

| the problem has been in the backs. it has not mattered what set of forwards we have had out on the pitch (apart from Leeds game at Headingly) we have dominated or had parity. Smith and Green since coming back from injury simply have not gelled like they did at the start of the season. don't know why but I have never seen as many passes go behind players when smith or green have been distributing. timing seems to be off and they have had plenty of time since coming back from injury to put it right.

The message wouldn't be "If you don't win the cup, you get sacked" it would be, "If you lose every knockout game against top sides*, you won't have your contract renewed."
Again, no disrespect to Hull FC, but if you had said to me at the start of the year we would play Leigh, Hull KR, Widnes, London and Hull FC as our cup games, and that none of those teams would be much better than they were in 2012, I wouldn't be happy with anything but a challenge cup. I wonder what Noble would have given for those draws! I'm willing to give Wane the benefit of the doubt after getting beat by Leeds in both semis last year, but then losing to Hull FC in the cup final would be too much IMO. As for the play offs, I had assumed Wane wouldn't wait around till the season ends.
*ok he beat Saints in the cup last year, that does give me a glimmer of hope

I think it could go either way, I'm just saying he's got a golden opportunity to win the cup after disappointing at the crunch end of both comps last year, if he doesn't take it, it starts to look like a trend that we can't get the job done when it counts
