This rule change is a bloody disaster

It wasn't a disaster tonight (for Warrington), as the rule wasn't applied.

It was a disaster beecause we lost briers!

which is why the rule should be changed back....theres as much chance that the tackler wil get injured as much as the tackled player

Big effort from briers, some will say out of character with the effort and aggression, but that has been him since Smith took over. Great hit, penalty every day of the week based on current laws but that's RL, instead of banning it, lets punish more harshly when a player gets it wrong.

Thing is though when he connected my first thoughts were "get him binned!", then after about 3 seconds i realised what a soft i was being.

Fair play to Paul Cullen for calling it how it is.

(on a side note, Cullen was like a breath of fresh air compared to those two Muppet last night)

I was dreading the commentary when i saw that Cullen was on but in fairness to him he was very good compared to Stevo who seems to get $hitter by the day

When you see hits like that you have to question the rule change. Cullen doesn't talk much sense but I agreed with him on that.

Rules that need to be in the game.

Shoulder charge should be legal, this all stems from the Inglis incident on Dean Young (youtube it if you've not seen it), there was uproar in Aus and it filtered over here.
Make it a legal shot BUT if you contact with the head, 5 game ban automatic, no quarrels, no appeals.

Dragging in to touch, there was a hint of discussion on it last night and again Cullen talked sense, why punish good defence, bring it back.

If two blokes get heated and throw a couple of shots at each other, bin them, end of.
No reds, no after match fines or suspensions, bin them job done.
Cheap punches to prone players or completely offguard i'm happy for that to be a red.

My first thought was why wasnt the penalty given, as clear an incident as you are bound to see.

But then I thought what an awesome hit it was and how exciting the shoulder charge can be when done right. Such a shame that this law was changed.

Punish people for getting it wrong. Heavy punishment. But why take the whole thing away.

I'm not sure where i stand on the shoulder charge. As a spectacle it's great to watch but the potential for injury is huge. The defence is meant to tackle, a shoulder charge is not a tackle.

The other 2 absolutely. Add to that 10 mins for a professional foul. Why is that not given any more? There were 2 clear examples last night, westwood on charnley after a break and powell on moneghan also after a break. Both were prevented from playing the ball quickly.

Its a rule the ozzies implemented so we had to follow, if we didn't we'd be penalised 10 times a match in the world cup. They also ban players for it, so Briers in ozzie terms would be banned for his hit

It is a silly rule that is not enforced half of the time, making it too much a point of argument. No one wants to see players getting hurt, but I don’t think this rule helps. A shoulder charge done in the right manner, with no head contact, is no more dangerous than any other way of stopping a player’s progress.

If only there were a medium we could use to debate the rules and regulations of our game. The pros and cons of such. Something like a public 'Forum'. If only such a place existed, where people of like minded interests could debate without sarcastic comments and people telling them to Move On. One day, eh? One day...

Theres not much to debate. The rules have changed. Shoulder charges are banned whether people like it or not. Or am I missing something?

The fact it is a recent change indicates that rules are open to change, therefore opinions and debate about what the rules should be are welcome.

According to the CURRENT rules, Briers' shoulder charge is unlawful. He should be punished in line with the CURRENT protocols.
If and when the shoulder charge is ever allowed again, then it would be a great example of the textbook tactic.
