Some prat from Leeds has been doing his damnedest to derail a current thread by wanting to talk about Kevin Sinfield instead of the subject matter at hand, so I thought, rather than watch him try harder and harder and harder to annoy people, finally get himself banned and see all his posts removed, and then go home in triumph because we'd 'gagged him' - and yet still have sunk an otherwise interesting thread - why not start a new one dedicated to his pet subject (among others), where he can sound off all he wants without bugging too many folk.

So here's the question. If Wigan were able to sign any other British-born players currently plying their trade in Super League, with money no option - to arrive at the club next week and start playing straight away - who would you go for?

To avoid ridiculous amounts of transfer activity, perhaps limit it to three - in order of preference.

Would Sir Kev be in there? How would the new-look Saints fare given that at one time we'd have been queuing up to snatch their talent? How about Warrington - a great team, but how many great players do they actually have?

My thoughts, for that they're worth, after admittedly brief consideration, would be as follows:

1) Kallum Watkins - I really like him, and one area where I genuinely worry about us is in the centres. (Ryan Hall would be a good shout, though I don't think we have a pressing need for a new winger).

2) Jonny Lomax - Sorry, but I'm not a Matty Smith fan; willing lad though he undoubtedly is, I don't think he's good enough to play in the halves for Wigan. (Danny Brough would have been a shoe-in at one time, but I hear he comes with baggage, plus he's 30).

3) Eorl Crabtree - I know we're not short of props, but big Earl is a true barnstormer.

No room for Sinfield in my selection. A good player, but we already have a better and younger loose forward, and I'd much sooner have a real stand-off playing in the halves.

Jonny Lomax - at FB not SH as cover for Sam when he leaves.

Danny Brough - May come with Baggage, but, is the best British scrum half in the game, on his day.

Ryan Hall - Best winger in the country, possibly the world.

Kevin Sinfield was been the difference between us going to Wembley/Old Trafford last season. His kicking game, organisation and leadership in that Leeds team is unprecedented - the best I've seen (in terms of leading a side around) since Andy Farrell and he thoroughly deserves his Golden Boot IMO. I have a lot of respect for the bloke and genuinely believe that if we signed him, partnered him with Blake Green we'd win the double this season.

A 1, 6, 7, 9, 13 of:

No other side could touch that.

Aside from Sinfield I'd go for Crabtree. Awesome prop. Cory Patterson looks a shrewd signing for Hull KR. I like Danny Brough at Huddersfield too. However if you're building for the future I'd take Chris Hill at Warrington.

Like the look of Daryl Clark at Castleford, rumours Leeds were/are interested.

I can understand Sinfield not being one of your "dream 3" transfers now, at 32. But if you'd have asked this question 10 years ago the evidence is that you'd have been wrong to have said anything else.

As for now, as a Leeds fan, I'd have Darryl Clark, Chris Hill and John Bateman. (Obviously would take Tomkins if he wasn't going to be off by the end of the season).

I think Clark will go to Wire as a replacement for Monaghan/Higham, although I would like him at Wigan along with Crabtree and Moon (who was a big miss as Carmonts replacement)

Ryan Hall is close to being the worlds best winger and would crawl over broken glass to have him at Wigan. Also really rate Watkins and would love to have that centre wing partnership with him and Hall.

Ten years ago he might have got in at stand-off as we were short a no. 6, but we had Adrian Lam at 7, Terry Newton (minus personal problems) at 9 and Andy Farrell at 13, so in truth there's no guarantee he'd have been selected regularly.

To make more certain, you could say, "if you'd asked this question six years ago" - which was our near-relegation season. But let's not keep moving the goal-posts just to get Kev more votes. It's now we've been told he's the best player on Earth, so we'll stick with now for the purpose of this thread.

And for those who keep saying Joel Moon - yeah, I'd have him too, but he was born in Queensland. This thread is supposed to be Brits only.
