| I am afraid you got it wrong.
The match will be refereed by Lee Briers, as usual.

| He's got a bit of a bad 'rep' for officiating when we are involved. Even the media noticed it.
I hope he doesn't revert back to the situation of early last season when he gave us nowt!

Excellent, no sign of Ben(aka) Popeye The Thaler Man, my views on the outcome of tonight’s tussle have moved much more to the positive in regard to the home teams prospects now. I will take my seat with a better chance that the poor people around me will not have to be subjected to my foulmouthed tirade upon him. I’ll save mi teeth from a grinding too!

How wrong were you. He rewarded the Liam Farrell try.
IMO Ganson is the best referee in SL. OK he loves the limelight, but like any referee, he had make the odd mistake. Otherwise I have always found fair him in his decisions.

i didnt see it played back at the game but guessing even ganson couldnt have disallowed it
looked like nothing wrong in real time
i do agree that the majority of the time Ganson is the best ref available

Nowt wrong with it but could see why he might suspect obstruction.
Bentham, on the other hand, I thought was terrible. And then very good. And then terrible again. For both sides.
Neither of Wire's first two tries should have stood. A forward pass from Atkins for the first, and the tackle on Charnley that was done to death but doesn't remove from the fact he was tackled in the air before he had the ball - it was an AWFUL decision - and he knew it by just how eager he was to blow up on Carvell on the next set.
As for dumb & dumber on Charnley (was it Charnley?) getting dragged to touch - Bentham had called 'held' a few seconds earlier. Those two are an embarrassment.

| Terrible for both, how many warnings did he have to give, how many decisions were just baffling?
If the Charnley tackle had been the other way round on Hodgson i'd have been livid.
The in touch penalty, players not hearing held, why not have the same rule as playing the ball when the players haven't heard held? Not hearing in that atmosphere is almost a guarantee.
Terrible tonight in equal measure for both.
Saying that the game would have been tense and close whoever was in the middle.

Well thanks for the balanced view on that but anyone blaming a draw as opposed to a Wigan win is missing the point a bit if it hinges on that. Both sides could have won the game off their own bat had they executed things a bit better. Richards missed a sitter of a goal kick and so on etc etc.

Re the touch penalty I thought that was correct given the new rule on that.

I thought in the first half he just let the players get on with it but in the second decided he needed to "officiate". I wonder if anyone had a word at half time?

I thought that as well. The first Wire try of the 2nd half was penalty, penalty, try - certainly the 2nd penalty decision was marginal at best but he seemed to be caught up in the moment. He then seemed to pick on petty indiscretions far more in the 2nd half whereas in the 1st he used better judgement and let the game flow. For me, if a slight infringement doesn't affect the game, then let it go.
Did anyone else notice Wire using knees as though they've been coached it? In attack and defence they were sticking knees into heads into loads of rucks, so much so even the wife noticed it! I thought Mossop in particular did well not to react to knees a couple of times.
I just hope we don't get another season of games where the ref decides the score.

| The ref was excellent. One clear error, with the benefit of replays, was the tackle on Charnley in the air. The foot in touch was the right decision IMO, the alternative was to penalise Wigan with a scrum to Wire, which would have been unfair as he had clearly called held well before. He made far, far less errors than the teams out there, despite having hundreds more decisions to make.
